Seven years after a disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina, the Federal Emergency Management Agency is winning praise for how it's dealing with Superstorm Sandy.

"This is the all-new FEMA, and the leadership is very, very good, very focused," said Dr. Irwin Redlener, a pediatrician and director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. "They're doing an excellent job."

Even in the highly charged political environment days before the U.S. elections, FEMA won plaudits from governors of both parties

New Jersey's Chris Christie, whose state bore the brunt of the storm, told CBS News on Tuesday that "cooperation has been great with FEMA here on the ground," while Delaware's Jack Markell told CNN that people in his state have been "really, really impressed by the response of FEMA."

You know when big government is all right for some of the phonies, in government and in the media, who rail constantly against it? When we get hit the way we got hit this week.

Kind of like Mardi Gras in New Orleans after Katrina.

The toxic liburulTic plague; the obvious decline of common sense in America.

But then again-even in ancient history-
Rome burned while Nero fiddled.

Nonunion Ala. crews turned away from Sandy recovery
Posted: Nov 01, 2012 11:05 PM EDT Updated: Nov 02, 2012 7:53 AM EDT
By Mark Thornhill
SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY (WAFF)-
The hurricane-ravaged east coast has been receiving north Alabama help, but crews learned they'll be doing work in Long Island, New York instead of in New Jersey.
Crews from Decatur Utilities and Joe Wheeler out of Trinity headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees.
The crews that are in Roanoke, Virginia say they are just watching and waiting even though they originally received a call asking for help from Seaside Heights, New Jersey.
The crews were told to stand down. In fact, Moore said the crew from Trinity is already headed back home.
Understandably, Moore said they're frustrated being told "thanks, but no thanks."
Huntsville Utilities said they were not turned away and are up in storm ravaged areas working.
SHAME ON SEASIDE (ignorant acting idiots). GOOD job to the media for a change though--At least he community knows WHY power restoration will be taking longer!!
