Obama Refuses to Answer About Storm Victims’ Frustrations

by Keith Koffler on November 3, 2012, 10:44 am

President Obama this morning ignored a reporter’s question about the mounting frustration victims of Hurricane Sandy are having with the response to the storm, refusing to let a question from the press interrupt a FEMA photo op in which he was on display taking action.

An excerpt rom the press pool report, which starts with a quote from Obama:

“There is nothing more important than us getting this right. And we’re going to spend as much time, effort and energy as necessary to make sure all the people of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut know that the entire country is behind them in this difficult recovery effort.”

He spoke for about five minutes. Pool asked about frustrations of people, particularly Staten Island. He did not respond.

No doubt aware of the political perils – and potential benefits – of the fallout from the hurricane, Obama arrived at FEMA with multiple members of his Cabinet in tow in a massive display of presidential concern. Even Cabinet secretaries you wouldn’t expect to be involved in hurricane relief – such as the Secretary of Labor and the Small Business Administration Administrator – have been enlisted and were at this morning’s meeting.

Obama’s effort will indeed have some practical effect – anytime a president shows he is personally engaged in an issue, it helps get the various agencies involved into a higher gear.

But with scenes of devastation proliferating on voters’ TV screens around the nation and evidence mounting of an insufficient response, Obama obviously felt he had to be seen at FEMA for a second time this week before heading back out to campaign.

After the visit to FEMA, Obama departed for Ohio.

Obama's plan during his second term is to conspire with the U.N. to bypass the 2nd amendment and ban the private ownership of firearms. Because of the unpopularity of such an idea, he's waiting until his second term to implement this plan. He has many more unpopular plans saved up for his second term.

Romney Gets Lost In Fox News Benghazi Bubble

Debate moderator Candy Crowley pointed out what other journalists did last night, that Obama mentioned "acts of terror" while addressing the Benghazi attack in the Rose Garden on September 12, the day after Americans were killed in Libya.

And for the record, the next day Obama said the same thing: "I want people around the world to hear me: To all those who would do us harm, no act of terror will go unpunished.

So how could the Republican candidate be so misinformed about what Obama had said about the attack on Americans? And why did Romney cling to the false claim that the president had refused to call it an act of terror?

Short answer: Fox News.

As Erik Wemple at the Washington Post noted, in a deeply ironic twist it appears Romney was a victim of conservative misinformation on the topic of Benghazi. "Romney revealed that perhaps he'd spent some time inside a coverage bubble on the Benghazi story," Wemple wrote. "In the words of one onlooker, he "[c]onfused conservative spin for the truth."

The american obama way. Hmmmm.

It will be pretty funny if Obama wins and makes the cuts to the same entitlement programs that libs are afraid Romney would make.

Liberals fear grand bargain betrayal if Obama wins

Labor unions and liberal interest groups are going all-out for President Barack Obama's reelection -- but they're just as ready to turn that firepower back on him if he betrays them with a grand bargain.

(When it will be OOPS! TOO LATE!)

These groups fear a victorious Obama would ink a deal with Republicans during the fiscal cliff negotiations that slashes entitlement benefits. And that could hurt the very coalition of voters -- minorities, women and low- and middle-income families -- that would claim credit for his second term. Even as they turn out the vote in public to keep Obama in office, in private they're plotting a strategy aimed at pressuring him to protect those who reelected him.

The dual-track campaign, led by the AFL-CIO, MoveOn and a network of progressive advocacy organizations, highlights the political vice grip that awaits Obama if he wins Tuesday.

He wants a large-scale deficit deal. But it would inevitably mean making concessions to Republicans that infuriate the Democratic base that spent the past two years and tens of millions of dollars trying to return him to the White House.

Progressives worry about which Obama will show up after Election Day: the pragmatist who offered benefit cuts to House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) in the 2011 debt ceiling talks or the partisan chastened by a failed deal to slice into prized Democratic programs.

The course Obama chooses would set the tone for his second term -- and it's not just Democrats he would need to massage. Republicans are likely to retain control of the House, and with it the power to derail or approve large items on the president's agenda, such as immigration reform. They will demand major fixes to entitlement programs and a renewal of the Bush-era tax rates for the wealthiest Americans.

Democrats in the White House and on Capitol Hill are gaming out scenarios, including the possibility of the president releasing his own plan (WHAT??? OBAMA HAS A PLAN??? WHO KNEW????) and traveling the country to sell it. But the exact strategy depends on the outcome of Tuesday's presidential, House and Senate elections, how congressional Republican leaders interpret the results and whether the GOP relents on taxes, officials said.
Obama, if he wins, will assert that voters had a choice -- and his vision on taxes, entitlements and the deficit prevailed.

"If I've won, then I believe that's a mandate for doing it in a balanced way," Obama said this week in an interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "We've already made a trillion dollars worth of cuts. We can do some more cuts. We can look at how we deal with the health care costs in particular under Medicare and Medicaid in a serious way. But we are also going to need some revenue."

Progressive activists say they're reasonably confident that the president won't compromise on ending the upper-income tax cuts.

It's the entitlements that worry them. They want him to stick more closely to the deficit-reduction plan he released in September 2011 that didn't go as aggressively after savings from beneficiaries.

But Obama signaled last week that he could revive the offer he made to Boehner, which was a mix of new revenues, reduced federal spending and ENTITLEMENT BENEFIT CUTS such as RAISING THE MEDICARE ELIGIBILITY AGE AND LOWERING THE COST-OF-LIVING INCREASES FOR SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENTS.

"It will probably be messy. It won't be pleasant," Obama told The Des Moines Register editorial board.

OOPS! TOO LATE!

Things didn't get any better with a Democrat Congress and a Democrat president for two years. Neither has it gotten any better with a Democrat controlled Senate and a Democrat president the past two years - 2 out of 3 stacked against Republicans.
It's amazing you can't see that. The only hope we have is if Republicans win back the Senate and keep the House - when it's stacked 2 out of 3 against the president if Obama should win. That's what happened under Clinton.
The housing market crisis was something altogether different since both parties ignored the warnings.
A Democrat Congress was in control of spending before it happened, but it's easier to blame a Republican president who issued the warnings.
Good morning.
