Generator Theft??

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the City of Bethlehem deployed generators to key intersections to aid in the flow of traffic after the sweeping power outages. We wanted to provide the public service of enabling people to move safely through the most heavily traveled areas and to keep the roadways open to get to St. Luke’s Hospital.

When we placed our generators at these intersections, we knew that we would be leaving a hot commodity exposed, so the generators were chained to the light poles. We didn’t expect what happened next.

We began to receive calls from concerned citizens that people were hanging around the generators looking as if they were going to steal them. Upon investigation, we learned that no one was looking to steal them, but instead they were charging their cell phones, iPads and other portable devices. The generators usually have four electrical outlets and we are using one to power the traffic signal. The remaining outlets were free and were being used by resourceful(?) people to keep their electronics charged.

This raised a good question. Is that theft? Maybe. But what is the cost? The generators must be run to power the traffic lights and it arguably does not take any more fuel to attach a small cell phone charger to it. The decision was simple, let them charge away. In these times, the cell phone/iPad is one of the only ways to stay in touch with the world when the power fails. We even resort to Twitter and Facebook to try to get as much information out the public as possible. Maybe in the future, we should require everyone to follow us on Twitter to get a charge on their device.

Well done. F Twitter though lol

I remember those days. It really sucked too!

I thought Lord Obama would have that fix by now.

How can he fix something like this, when he didn't care to sell off half of our oil supply?

Barack Obama's Columbia GPA Ferreted Out By The Daily Caller Via Random Guy From The Interwebs

Go ahead and give Mitt Romney all of your unskewed Electoral College votes, folks, because The Daily Caller has done changed the game with their recent report that President Barack Obama earned a mediocre grade point average at Columbia University, according to some random anonymous guy that they met on Chatroulette, or something.

According to the Daily Caller's source, who we are assured is a "wealthy donor" to Columbia (thus ruling out all of Columbia's poverty-stricken donors), Obama's GPA was scandalously middling, probably:

In 2004, after Obama’s successful speech at that year’s Democratic convention, a Columbia University official told him Barack Obama's GPA, he explained to TheDC.

"This person told me that he [Obama] was a pre-law, poli-sci major, had a lot of incompletes, and as best could be determined after sorting through the incompletes, had a GPA of 2.6," said the businessman, a former Marine Corps combat veteran.

Cool story, guys. I say we just confirm this sucker, assure readers that there isn't any contradictory evidence, find a way to make a larger point about Obama's stay at Columbia and we can wrap this up with a bow.

They add that "The 2.6 grade can’t be confirmed, is contradicted by some evidence, and it doesn't say anything about the courses, professors and associations Obama was immersed in during his two-year stay in Columbia."

Ah well, you know the whole nature of journalism is different now that we're all huffing spray paint, I guess.

At any rate, the jury is still out as to whether this is going to reshape the presidential campaign in its last 96 hours. Clearly, there is much more to learn about this Barack Obama fellow than can be gleaned from his policy preferences, speeches, debate responses, campaign website, widely available plans, interviews and the many books that have been written about the things that happened during his first term.

So if you are a random person who has heard something -- anything, no matter how unbelievable or made-up sounding -- about Barack Obama, just email me and I'll report it while protecting your anonymity. Right off the bat, I need someone to confirm the rumor that the honorary degree that Obama received from the University of Michigan was printed on rolling papers.(Just send me an email with the subject line, "The Honorary Degree That Obama Received From The University Of Michigan Was Totally Printed On Rolling Papers," that reads, "I can confirm this, but I can't say anything more. I'm in too deep!")

Time is running out! In fact, it's running out so fast that I hear Barack Obama is going to cancel the daylight savings time adjustment scheduled for this weekend by executive order just so all of you don't have that extra hour to send me your weird emails. So hurry!

This election year, community activists working to get more Latinos to turn out and vote have enlisted the help of an unwitting ally: Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the brash-talking embodiment of the battles over illegal immigration in Arizona and beyond.

When they knock on doors — trying, at first, to persuade Latinos to join voter rolls, and later returning to make sure they cast their ballots — the activists resort to the same question to drive the conversation: Don’t you want Sheriff Arpaio out of office?

Obama,is fighting for his Political Life,Why????
Which gets us to Tuesday. No one knows what will happen. Maybe that means it will be close, and maybe it doesn't. Maybe a surprise is in store. But the fact that Barack Obama is fighting for his political life is still one of the great political stories of the modern era.
Look at where he started, placing his hand on the Bible Abe Lincoln was sworn in on in 1861. It was Jan. 20, 2009. The new president was 47 and in the kind of position politicians can only dream of—a historic figure walking in, the first African-American president, broadly backed by the American people. He won by 9.5 million votes. Two days after his inauguration, Gallup had him at 68% approval, only 12% disapproval. He had a Democratic Senate, and for a time a cloture-proof 60 members. He had a Democratic House (256-178) with a colorful, energetic speaker. The mainstream media were excited about him, supportive of him.
His political foes were demoralized, their party fractured.

AFP/Getty Images
.
He faced big problems—an economic crash, two wars—but those crises gave him broad latitude. All of his stars were perfectly aligned. He could do anything.
And then it all changed. At a certain point he lost the room.
Books will be written about what happened, but early on the president made two terrible legislative decisions. The stimulus bill was a political disaster, and it wasn't the cost, it was the content. We were in crisis, losing jobs. People would have accepted high spending if it looked promising. But the stimulus was the same old same old, pure pork aimed at reliable constituencies. It would course through the economy with little effect. And it would not receive a single Republican vote in the House (three in the Senate), which was bad for Washington, bad for our politics. It was a catastrophic victory. It did say there was a new boss in town. But it also said the new boss was out of his league.
Then health care, a mistake beginning to end. The president's 14-month-long preoccupation with ObamaCare signaled that he did not share the urgency of people's most immediate concerns—jobs, the economy, all the coming fiscal cliffs. The famous 2,000-page bill added to their misery by adding to their fear.
Voters would have had to trust the president a lot to believe his program wouldn't raise their premiums, wouldn't limit their autonomy, wouldn't make a shaky system worse.
But they didn't trust him that much, because they'd just met him. They didn't really know him.
You have to build the kind of trust it takes to do something so all-encompassing.
Peggy Noonan's Blog
Daily declarations from the Wall Street Journal columnist.
.
And so began the resistance, the Tea Party movement and the town-hall protests, full of alarmed independents and older Democrats. Both revived Republicans and, temporarily at least, reunited conservatives.
Why did the president make such mistakes? Why did he make decisions that seemed so unknowing, and not only in retrospect?
Because he had so much confidence, he thought whatever he did would work. He thought he had "a gift," as he is said to have told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He thought he had a special ability to sway the American people, or so he suggested to House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
But whenever he went over the the heads of the media and Congress and went to the people, in prime-time addresses, it didn't really work. He did not have a magical ability to sway. And—oddly—he didn't seem to notice.
It is one thing to think you're Lebron. Its another thing to keep missing the basket and losing games and still think you're Lebron.
And that really was the problem: He had the confidence without the full capability. And he gathered around him friends and associates who adored him, who were themselves talented but maybe not enough...not big emough for the game?
