The American Conservative....

Who We Are

What wrecked the good name of conservatism? Success. The conservative critique of the liberal welfare-warfare state was so powerful that special interests (such as those that President Eisenhower called the Military-Industrial Complex) and opportunistic politicians began to adopt the label and offer fame, money, and power to conservatives who would admit them to the fellowship. As well, there was another reaction against the new age of ideology and bigness, a populist reaction. Combining populist anger with the name of conservatism proved a winning formula for fundraisers and office-seekers. But instead of making the populist uprising more conservative, the effect was to remake conservatism as populism. Thus the principle conservative values of peace, community, and economic responsibility came to be lost amid wars and rumors of wars, military Keynesianism and promises of perpetual, debt-fueled growth.

The original conservatives—and some of their libertarian and even liberal friends, those who were more conservative than they knew—had it right. Today the country pays the price for the left-wing ideologies that ran rampant in the 20th century and the right-wing, but not conservative, reaction that has only exacerbated the destruction wrought by the left. To solve the country’s seemingly intractable—and, in the long-term, lethal—strategic, economic, and socio-cultural problems requires a rediscovery of traditional conservatism.

That’s the mission of The American Conservative.

My dad was a Baptist minister in Georgia, carol, and he lived his beliefs. I had to wear boys shoes and long pants and a workshirt every day and once a week dad would run a clipper over my head so I could look as much like a boy as possible.

We held church Wednesdays and Sundays but the story I'm going to tell took place on a Tuesday. We were "home-schooled" so Dad took me to work with him. On the days he wasn't preaching he was a carpenter, like Jesus I guess, and I'd carry his tools, fetch his coffee, stuff like that.

I didn't see it happen but somehow dad managed to zip up his penis in his fly and he was skipping around, cursing, screaming at the top of his lungs. Finally he saw me watching him from the doorway and he screamed for me to help him so I ran over. And then I saw what he'd done. He'd obviously tugged hard and the zipper pretty much had divided the thing fully halfway up it. There was blood, carol, a LOT of it. But I'd been taught to be brave so I took a hold of the zipper with one hand, and the serpent shaped head of his thingy and I pulled as hard as I could. Dad screamed then, "THE OTHER WAY! THE OTHER WAY!!!" Well, I was only thirteen and I was flustered so once he calmed down a little I took a better grip and got ready to take another shot at it. This time it went better but it was a struggle let me tell you!

War with Iran and Displaying “Strength”

....Romney’s judgment on foreign policy issues has already been terrible so far. What appears to be an unnecessary disaster-in-the-making to many of us could appear to be an opportunity to a new hawkish president. Romney is a political coward and a partisan conformist, which means that he will acquiesce to pressure from within his party to make bad decisions that satisfy the hawks in his party. If a new president sees war as an opportunity to solidify his reputation on national security rather than as an occasion for ruin, an exceptionally opportunistic politician would be more likely to favor military action than he would be to avoid it.

Romney might review U.S. history and conclude that presidents that wage unnecessary wars usually aren’t punished by the public (at least not right away). During the initial stages of such a war, Romney might enjoy short-term political benefits that presidents often receive from the decision to order military action. To the extent that he is able to portray the decision as a necessity (which it won’t be), he would probably be given the benefit of the doubt for a while, and the decision to attack would force members of the opposing party to side with or against his administration. It isn’t be hard to imagine how ambitious national Democratic politicians with an eye on the 2016 race would get on board with war against Iran, which could set up a field of Democratic presidential candidates as compromised on this issue as the ’04 field was on Iraq.

Like I said, "And when your Democrats do something like spit on US veterans, you pretend it didn't happen."
Just ask the veterans that returned through Travis and Norton who got spit on. They have a different version of events than you.

By the way, why aren't you Democrats screaming "baby killer" at veterans today like you did 40 years ago?

So, as long as we kill some terrorist somewhere whether or not they killed our ambassador is sufficient for you.
Why don't we capture a dozen terrorists or so & every time there is a terrorist attack somewhere we just execute one of the ones we captured? Look at the time & money that would save.
are you talking about Obama bragging how he sits with baseball card style pictures of terrorists to decide who he wants to kill by drone?

imagine the outcry of the libs if Bush had ordered an American killed by drone without a trial.

The day after Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock said that "even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen," Fox News mentioned the comment twice, devoting just over two minutes of coverage to it. Meanwhile, CNN gave the topic an hour and 20 minutes of coverage and MSNBC covered the topic for 2 hours and 7 minutes.

Colin Powell On Romney:‘I Have Concerns About His Views On Foreign Policy’

Former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell endorsed President Obama’s re-election campaign this morning on CBS This Morning. Powell — who served as the top U.S. diplomat during the Bush administration — said the president would be better on the economy but he also had harsh criticism of Mitt Romney’s foreign policy, reiterating his concern about Romney’s neocon advisers and that the GOP presidential nominee essentially threw out all his past hawkish positions and played a moderate during this week’s foreign policy debate....

Anyway, it was a mess and by the time we got him out he was laying on the floor holding his thingy and moaning, "Jesus, Jesus.." I went to the truck and got some ice out of the cooler and tied it in a trash bag. Then I took it in to dad and he carefully put it over his penis.

After a while he'd calmed down a little and he looked at me then and he said, "Jane, you're a mess, girl! Get out of those clothes and go wash up in the bathroom. Use the toilet paper to dry your self off."

I did as he said and took a long hot shower in the people's bathroom. We didn't have indoor plumbing at our house so this was a real luxury! I dried myself with the toilet paper and then tried to figure out what to put on instead of my bloody clothes. I went out and asked dad what to put on and as we were discussing it I saw the garbage bag start to rise up off his stomach - like a big tent. Well, let me tell you, carol, I earned my stripes that day, and that's a thing you won't necessarily learn in school!

So you admit you lied when you said that Obama claimed Al Qaeda was dead.
As for Benghazi, we still don't know for sure what happened & who did it. The only people that lie about it are Mitt Romney & Republicans who keep running & circles.
Watergate concerned a Presidential cover up of a crime committed by operatives of Nixon's own party.
No Americans committed any crimes in Benghazi.
The only real crime committed by Americans is the one you commit when you constantly lie about it for political purposes. You blamed Al Qaeda for the attack. Where is your proof?

Actually we did win the Vietnam war. The North Vietnamese were virtually decimated when we pulled most of the troops out. It wasn't till the democrat congress stopped funding the military aid to South Vietnam that the north overran the south. A lot of revising going on.

Dad looked up at me standing there and he smiled that crooked smile of his and said, "Wow! You're really turnin' into a little lady, aren't you?" I looked down at myself then and for the first time it dawned on me that I was becoming a woman. I'd been dressing like a boy for so long I hadn't really noticed my little breasts budding out and the tuft of brown hair sprouting between my legs. For the first time in my life I actually noticed myself! Dad noticed too, that old rascal. That garbage bag was bobbin' around up there like a catfish on a limb-line.
