must be another bit of news that needed to "fade away" because it points to the hypocrisies and failures of the Obama presidency.
You haven't heard about it recently because it wasn't really news in the first place just bullshyte from right wing chicken littles such as the ones who live on this thread.

Lockheed Martin laid off 200 employees and has no current plans for additional layoffs.

200 is a far cry from 11,000 correct? LMAO, not on the topix political threads it isn't.

The interesting thing about history is that it doesn’t stop at the beginning. It keeps on rolling along and morphs into more history.

Early trials suffered by the Maryland colonists, including religious upheaval, raids from pirates, rebellions and Indian wars, all set the stage for what was to follow: the yeoman planter class which eventually emerged along the shorelines of the rivers. The yeomen were those whose forbears came to the colony in its infancy, enduring the “seasoning” sickness that waylaid most newcomers for a good six months upon their arrival. Those who survived (more than a few didn’t) worked out their four-to seven year indentures in the fledgling colony, and in return were granted 50 acres to start their own farms. With tobacco as the main money-making crop, many of these former indetures some of whom could neither read nor write became very wealthy men. As Cecil Calvert, Second Lord Batlimore had envisioned, this became the foundation for a success in the new world.

As these seasoned, former indentures grew older, new Americans the yeoman class were born. Because their parents endured the “seasoning” for them, they were immune to the pathogens. The new wealthy population expanded their holdings and plantations such as Historic Sotterley in Hollywood were the result.

Older than Mount Vernon or Montecello, Sotterley has endured time, tide, storms and wars, and as well as any site in Southern Maryland, tells in a concise and accurate manner (historians there have debunked quite a few former myths) the story of the yeoman class that developed in Maryland through the colonial period and eventually gave rise to America.

Obama's funniest joke last night? "7.8% unemployment"
*****

Is California Scheming to Make the Obama Economy Look Better?

Not only did California fail to report its numbers, the man in charge of the agency responsible for reporting those numbers is — cue the dramatic sting — an Obama donor.

Marty Morgenstern, the secretary of the California agency that substantially under-reported unemployment claims last week, contributed to President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential election campaign.
—

Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown appointed Morgenstern to lead the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency in 2011. The state agency oversees the Employment Development Department.

According to campaign disclosure records, Morgenstern donated $4,600 — the maximum amount allowed by law — to the 2008 Obama camapaign, beginning with a $1,000 contribution to Obama for America in February 2008. Morgenstern followed up that donation with a $1,300 contribution in June, and then a $2,300 payout in early September.

TO BE A SLAVE Between 1790 and 1860, the slave population grew from 700,000 to four
million. During this period, a distinctive African-American community developed because most
slaves lived in groups of ten or more and so were able to form a sense of community. The
reliance on natural increase meant less, new African influences on community development. The
slaves’ first challenge was to survive, for their life expectancy was significantly lower than
whites. Slaveholders claimed they treated their slaves more humanely than northern industrialists
treated their workers. Slaves typically lived in one-room cabins with dirt floors and a few
furnishings. Slaves received the essentials for survival like food and clothing, though neither was
adequate and were frequently supplemented by the slaves’ own efforts. To survive, slaves
learned how to avoid punishments and to flatter whites. Some slaves worked as house servants
but most were field hands and were under constant white supervision. Some slaves were skilled
workers, filling in the positions left vacant due to the absence of immigrant labor. But 75 percent
worked as field hands, from sunup to sundown. They performed the heavy field labor needed for
getting out a cotton crop, driven by the threat of the master’s lash. Not surprisingly, many
suffered from poor health. The opening of western lands contributed to the instability of slave
life, as many were separated from their families by sale or migration and faced new hardships in
the West.
