Mayor Welch is a very fine man. He has done so much for Country Club Hills. In 1977, I was selling a house there when it was very apparent that local realtors were red-lining CCH. Dwight was a policeman there at the time. He was totally committed to the community.

He STILL IS! Recently, while shopping at the new CCH Walmart I was so impressed with all Mayor Welch has brought to CCH. CCH could have easily been "ghetto-ized". But, Mayor Welch would not let that happen! For all these years as Mayor he has sought out one opportunity after another for the betterment of CCH. And, he is succeeding in making CCH a vibrant community.

Was he being a little naive when he allowed the Fire Dept to use his pool house as a training endeavor...YES. When you have accomplished as much as Mayor Welch has you will have people lurking in the bushes trying to ambush you, this is as certain as a dogs bark!

Mayor Welch will be absolved of wrong doing in this matter. My question is will this witchhunt damage his enthusiasm and ambition for his community? I hope not, Dwight Welch is a KEEPER.

Leave this guy alone. He's the best thing this town has going. I hope Cook County issues a formal response when they find no ill intentions. As a former resident of hazel crest, I'm all for the mayor and his eforts to keep his town thrivng.

I need my pool removed from my backyard, think the Country Club Hills firemen can remove it, since they have no experience using axes?

Leave this guy alone. He's a pillar of the community, and there should be many more mayors just like him. If you know anything about the area, you know he is an extraordinarily hard working and dedicated public official that has had an enormous positive impact on the quality of life in Country Club Hills.
Mayor Welch FTW!

I am not a fan of this guy,but this investigation is BS. Firefighters do this training all the time and it looks like Welch followed procedure. The CCSAO almost never prosecutes local pols. This time it is a waste of time and tax dollars.

Oh geez. I'm not sure what exactly is the big deal about this. He allowed firefighters to destroy, not build his property. Granted, obviously he didn't want the building anymore and worked out in his favor not to have to hire an actual demolition company but, it's not like he caused the taxpayers any additional expenses either. So, the firefighters got some training and the mayor got rid of an unwanted building. We could only wish other politicians were so practical.........

It doesnt matter what he's done for the town! He is not above the friggin law people, no excuses. There are a lot of fine outstanding people who have betrayed the peoples trust. Dont be blind.

and if he wanted a new house, he could have just set the old one on fire and watched the rookie firemen practice trying to put it out.

So it saves him a couple thousand in demolition fees, the man had a walmart built.

I have a question.....did Mayor Welch obtain a demolition permit from Cook County? To demolish any structure you have to pay Cook County $350 to have it inspected to be sure there are no hazardous materials before you can legally take it down.

I know because I had to pay that to have a wooden garage removed!!!

Waste of time. Leave him alone. Fireman do this all the time to old structures. He might have used it to his beneifiet but it still was passed in the town meeting. Cook has bigger fish to fry.

Anyone in the public safety business knows you can't have enough training. People volunteer their old structures for training like this all the time.

This sounds like the same old story, corrupt Politician wants the perks, that regular citizens have to pay for. How convenient for the Fire Department to ask him if they can tear down his pool house. This guy is crooked as they come... double dipping with his local community for being a "government servant" when he is actually just taking advantage of a gullible "ignorant" population of people. He does the same thing in Cook County as some sort of Budget officer for the Stroger regime. This is the type of politics that make the regular citizens despise the politics and politicians that get elected. He gets in office and does whatever he wants including firing anyone that stands up to him or questions his authority. He's the worst politics that I have ever witnessed. And the poor people of his community can't seem to rid of this louse.
