A Chicago grandmother was arrested for allegedly killing her 8-year-old granddaughter.
According to police, 51-year-old Helen M. Ford strangled and beat her granddaughter, Gizzell Kiara Ford, to death after abusing her for months.
On Friday, the police found the 8-year-old girl dead in her home and she had several bruises, cuts and burns on her body. She even had maggots living in a head wound that went untreated for so long.
When police questioned Ford, she said that her granddaughter was upset about her mother not visiting her and would run into furniture and bang her head on things.
She also told police that Gizzell asked for a peanut butter sandwich around 11 a.m. and said she couldn’t move while she was eating it. When she gave her a glass of water, the little girl reportedly stopped breathing.
The little girl’s uncle, Osvaldo Mercado, said that Ford kept her granddaughter away from her friends and family.
“Helen blocked everybody,” he said.“She would say,‘Gizzell can’t talk – she’s in the shower, or on punishment.’ It was an excuse every time we called.”
“She was outgoing; she spoke to everybody,” Mercado added.“It was like one big party when she got together with her cousins. She had a brain; she had manners.”
Ford was charged with murder and is currently being held in jail without bond.
Unfortunately, Ford isn’t the only person who has been accused of abusing a child lately. In April, a Chicago mother was arrested for beating her baby to death with a belt.
Lakeshia Baker and her boyfriend Michael Scott dumped the baby’s body in the Des Plaines River and told the police that he was abducted by three Hispanic men in an alleyway.
Cops didn’t believe their story and charged them both with murder.
What do you think should happen to the Chicago grandmother if she is found guilty of killing her granddaughter?
