Bravo Gary!
As a soldier in Afghanistan who has helped hand out roughly 10 tons of Humanitarian Assistance and aid to the Afghans, I couldn't agree more. It has never been my experience nor have I seen a photographer anywhere near such events.

The soldiers love Gary Sinise for his compassion towards them (service with the USO) and his consistent message to the public regarding the positives that the military offers.

Thank you for the great article covering a man with some good perspective!

You just gotta love Gary Sinise. Just a shame that a real person like this is such a minority in Hollywood. Keep it up, Gary.

Thank you Gary for your unwavering support also of OPERATION SUPPORT OUR TROOPS -- ILLINOIS INC.
www.osotil.org
If you are from the Chicago area come see the Lt. Dan Band play at Catigny in Winfield on July 18th. It's beautiful , fun, awesome, inspiring and your donations go to the USO and OSOSTIL.org .
It's a very humbling event.

Gary Sinise is to be highly respected in my opinion.
I despise war,the destruction , the killing,-- I cannot imagine who does not.
I pray for peace , I pray for our children and families overseas and I pray for good folk like Gary who take the time to give back, visit the troops, say hello to military overseas, take photos, perform for them and basically show them we care and support them very much.
Thank you Gary.

Here's the deal. Go to the airport some time when troops are leaving or coming back. Anti-war protesters are there and why shouldn't they be? Proud families are there and why shouldn't they be? Pro-war demonstrators are there and why shouldn't they be? THIS IS AMERICA!! Interestingly enough, most people in ALL of these groups say hello to ALL of the soldiers and most of them say, "Thank you for your service."

All of the above is as it should be.
Gary Sinise is a great guy and so are all these Americans--in the service and in the airports and on the streets.

THIS IS AMERICA!! SPEAK YOUR PIECE!

Kudos to Gary Sinise. Thanks for standing up for the ones who support us all.

Hollywood producers produce what they knows and believe, and many believe that the military is the last resort of the incompetent. Few producers have served and few will listen to alternative beliefs. Even fewer will risk their names and money on a non-controversial project. It's got to be controversial or they're not making a 'statement'.

So the producers pander to their own perception of what the people want, and is it any wonder that they feed of the fear, and their inability to accept the sacrifice that others made, a sacrifice that only a few of themselves could offer?

Thanks Gary.

I like to use this Web site to see the positive interaction that our soldiers have with the locals (not to mention the great photos and some great scenic shots), especially with the children. Flickr is great for pictures from the perspective of the military, as is the case with the above link, but also for picture sets submitted by the soldiers themselves.

To all who have served and our serving our country, THANK YOU.

Gary is a patriot. You probably won't see him in any more movies because of that left wing crowd in Hollyweird.

For anybody interested in giving the soldiers some comforts of home, you can use this Web site: http://www.anysoldier.com/

You can search for a soldier to "sponsor" and some make requests for specific items, such as snacks like beef jerky, nuts, water guns, powder drink mixes, toiletries, magazines, and some just ask for a basic letter from the folks here at home. Some ask for chocolate, but it is not always practical due to heat in Iraq. Some people have sent big items, such as tv's, pillows, armored vests, while I can't afford that, I send what I can, I figure it is better than nothing. They love letters and artwork from children, there are some teachers who organize that through their classrooms.

Whenever I can, I try to send a care package at least every other week using the USPS Flat Rate Boxes, sometimes I send what they request, sometimes what I think they may like. NEVER, combine food items with toiletries such as deodorant. I send what I can, try to find items on sale. I can't always send enough, but it is all appreciated. Even a simple letter or a post card is very much appreciated.

It is a wonderful program. I "sponsor" three soldiers. They are busy out there, but once in a while they do write back. Once you received your first letter or email from your soldier, it is just an awesome feeling. Unfortunately, there are some soldiers who don't have anybody back here at home who write to them. At times, my soldiers have told me that they gave the items I sent them to a fellow soldier who doesn't receive mail, I think that their compassion and sharing towards each other is great.

You can search for a soldier and if you are interested in sponsoring them, you can request their contact information.

Just thought I would put this out there because there are many people that want to help and do their part, but don't know how.

The best way to honor our sons and daughters in uniform is to send them on honorable missions. Iraq is not one of these.

i love sinise as an actor, but it seems to me if he hasn't seen depalma's film, he really has no business slamming it or making such a harsh personal attack on depalma. just like all those empty heads who shoot their mouths off about michael moore - or any filmmaker - without ever seeing his films.

Right, a great way to understand people is to lump them all into one stereotypical group, and call them names. Bravo, genius.

Mr. Depalma has no comment on hating the military,,,,,nice.

Maybe he could hook up with shawn penn and susan serandon and they can go over to afganistan and tell how great things were under the taliban.
Thank you

I'm confused - where's all the republican outrage over this story? Aren't they the ones who are always telling Hollywood types to shut up about politics and the military and global warming and on and on? Shouldn't there be a bunch of posts from the right wingers telling Mr. Sinise to shut up and just act?

It's easy for them to have their opinion in their mansions. I doubt they have the guts to actually go visit the troops.
Thank you, Gary Sinise for presenting an opposing and more accurate opinion.
