Illinois rethinks taking driver's licenses for traffic tickets

As if the $125 ticket wasn't bad enough, Lauren Kamm's illegal left turn onto Ashland Avenue in Chicago earned her an extra surprise: Her driver's license was confiscated. Full Story

* No badge number 12345
As I suspected, "chicago cop" is a fraud, making stuff up here about the law based on how he'd like people to drive or how he (mis)understands the rules.
also when you call for that name , make sure they are working the 3a period with out the D.O.G of 4-5

just want to make sure you get it right,

City Dude. I am a police officer and agree that a ticket for a traffic calming device or a yellow light is utter horse apples, but I wrote a lady a ticket for a stop sign violation, that I had on video. She stated that she stopped, I showed her the video (bad officer safety move, then I'm not required to do - mia culpa)and she told me my video was wrong. 99.9% of tickets are properly written and most good judges catch the ones that are not.

Chicago ordinance 9-8-020 (B)(2) contradicts
(625 ILCS 5/11‑306)
(b) Steady yellow indication.
1. Vehicular traffic facing a steady circular yellow
or yellow arrow signal is thereby warned that the related green movement is being terminated or that a red indication will be exhibited immediately thereafter.
You'll notice something very important about this statute: Yellow light does not have a prohibition. So under state law you may enter an intersection on yellow. If city ordinance says otherwise, that's a conflict and state law overrules the city ordinance.
So if you have a ticket for running a YELLOW LIGHT, you now have a nice defense.
About the $75 CASH BAIL. There is a new law that says that if you deposit CASH BAIL and it is refunded, about 10% of it is held by the court for costs, and you get 90% back. So guess what? Even if you're NOT GUILTY, you still got to pay! So you're screwed either which way.
So, the only way NOT to pay first, is to ask for an I-Bond. This is known as an INDIVIDUAL RECOGNIZANCE BOND. You got to go to the police station and sign it. It will take more time, and inconvenience both you and the cop, who is more likely to let you go to not have to deal with the paperwork.

I agree that this is archaic. I grew up in Texas and had one ticket for going five over the speed limit while I lived down there-eight years ago. I got a ticket recently in IL for an expired plate sticker (long story short-never pay anything to the state of IL online, they don't post it and you get screwed) and was shocked that my license was taken away. Not only that, when I went to the courthouse to pay the thing I was told to wait 7-10 business days to pay the ticket-not to mention the time it will take to actually get my license back. Thankfully I have a passport as a backup photo ID, but this is just the most moronic thing I've ever heard of, at least for minor violations.

What if your drivers licence is taken as bond during a routine traffic stop can you go next day to officer's police station and bond cash in exchange for your drivers licence???

you can drive carefully all you want, they have to give the tickets and they will, they just have to get the worse drivers of the bunch, so if the speed posted in 55, and everyone is driving at 55, they will get the ones driving at 56 if any, if every one is driving under 55 or at 55, they will get the ones who are driving the slowest of the bunch, for driving too slow, unless everyone can drive exactly at 55, which is impossible. Consider this as a tax, I just don't see why they can not charge an extra $100 from all residents rather than buring gas trying to ticket people.

We do stop illegal aliens. What we really should do is stop people like your parents from breeding.
