The Nite Light Cafe, located at 7009 Ogden Avenue in Berwyn, is supposedly a Christian/Catholic church group center that meets at least twice weekly, have occasional special events, and is where people (supposedly) make friends, mingle, and worship the Lord. Unfortunately, however, it's spiritual attitude is far from clean and pure, as the group has heavily restricted itself to children and teens 17 years old and younger only. Adults are promptly and coldly turned away and everyone gets immediately banned and thrown out of the group on their 18th birthday, and forbidden to attend any and all future events held there. Displays of affection, including hugging, is horribly frowned upon and even discouraged by the staff at that place, and in fact, displays of affection including hugging really should be welcomed and even encouraged in God's house. The entrance sign says that the place "shines light in the dark", but it actually only does that for those 17 and younger only. For those 18 and older, it simply throws a secondary blanket of impenetrable darkness over them. This is yet another sign that, in the State of Illinois, all socializing, mingling, making friends, etc, runs right into a solid welded steel wall at high school graduation.

They have a strict age cutoff in order to keep adults, specifically sex predators, away from the minors.

It is actually illegal in the State of Illinois for an adult man to approach within less than 75 feet of a minor who is not his daughter. And that includes neighbors as well. And that also includes at public places, even shopping malls. Even if the adult's criminal record is spotless.

In addition, public display of affection, including hugging, is also illegal in the State of Illinois.

Another sign of an extremely crummy nightlife atmosphere! Illinois is a strict all work no play zone for adults! All the way to the point that, especially in Chicago's collar county area (DuPage, Lake, Will, Kane, McHenry, and even DeKalb counties), there is no Sabbath!

Worse still, that place does not even have any events or weekly worship/socialization nights for adults only, either. Instead of even, for instance, a night a week for children and teens only and another night a week for adults only, they are going for children and teens only on all operating days and nights.

These days especially, you really need to be tough, strong, fit, antisocial, and willing to be busy all 8,766 hours a year to live in Illinois. Illinois is extremely expensive, many areas even rivaling New York City expensewise, and Illinois is populated by many millions of Kim Jong-il wannabes. The pace of life in Illinois is like a space shuttle. Work bosses in Illinois will whip their employees to speed up and will fire all but the fastest paced. Illinois does not have a single Disco, DJ, or dance club; all clubs that are left are the sit down and watch only type where you just sit at a table and watch a band play and that's it. To make matters worse, the Jerry Springer, Steve Wilkos, and Oprah Winfrey shows have all abandoned Illinois. Illinois is a very hard and tough place to live in, and is completely unfit for social butterflies and party happy people.

And in fact, that is the main reason why, for those of you still in high school, some of your classmates tell you that after graduation, that they are going to college in, for instance, Miami, Tampa, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas. Because they know that there is no party atmosphere in the whole state of Illinois, the nightlife atmosphere in general is extremely bad, the social atmosphere in Illinois is terrible, and they don't want to be part of the all work and no play atmosphere.

im commenting on the original post made about the nite light. i an 22 years old and a former teen of the nite light. any time i stop by i am still welcomed with open arms...and yes a hug! the owner actually loves hugs and treats everyone as a welcomed guest as long as your respectful. and yes, adults can attend the church services they hold at noon every Sunday. the owner have the biggest heart for the lord and a love for young people. their mission is specifically designed to help youngsters, all thought the ministry does give away tons of food donations to adults in need. adults of band members or teens that attend shows are welcomed, but of course still have to pay the cover (which goes 100% into keeping their doors open, nothing is pocketed by the owners or working everyone is a volunteer) other than that, its not the type of "scene" many adults would want to attend anyway, unless their going there on Sunday for church.

It may not be the type of "scene" at least nowadays that many adults might want to attend, but then again, there is absolutely nothing social in the entire state of Illinois that is even remotely fit for adults. No church groups, no discotheques, nothing. Whatever bars that are left are located in the middle of horribly crime infested neighborhoods and are therefore completely overrun by all drunken gang bangers that spend the night drinking and then starting fights and shootouts.

The cutoff age for ALL fun, socializing, partying, mingling, and dancing in the state of Illinois is high school graduation. And high school graduation is a blunt, hard, and tremendously strict cutoff age for all Illinoisans!

And they are also proud of throwing another blanket of darkness and seemingly total hopelessness on everyone over 18 who wants to have some nightlife, socializing, and some fun.

Way to spread disinformation. IF thats the case why aren't the police at the malls and any other place where persons gather arresting men like there is no tomorrow?

As to the original poster, it sounds as if its a place for minors, so that once you are no longer a minor you can find a different group to attend. Furthermore you sound quite creepy, as if this group is squashing your attempts wants and desires to get some cheap feels and gropes in on young boys and girls.

To the OP;

Illinois is NOT a party place for adults. In Illinois, it is all work and totally no play after high school, and in many areas such as Chicagoland (really all of Northern Illinois from about the latitude of Peoria all the way to the Wisconsin border), there is even no Sabbath for anyone.

The reason there is nothing (exclusively) for adults in Northern Illinois is because of the tremendously fast paced, Sabbathless, workaholic lifestyle of Northern Illinoisans.

As an adult, if you really want to go somewhere where people of any age at all (including adults) mingle, socialize, and have fun, you really need to go look in another state. Some of the best regions for mingling, socializing, dancing, and such in which the venues are welcoming to adults are in/near New York City and throughout the Sunbelt region, especially along the Gulf Coast area. There are also a few scattered hangout type places for adults in Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan. As for worshipping Jesus, well, there is always regular mass at a regular church. A lot of churches even have mass every Sunday, too!

My band has played there twice and our parents have always been allowed in. They have gotten new ownership in the past year so I think things have changed.
