I started a new job 4 months ago and no matter what I do my co-workers are rude to me. I have never gotten rude with any of them and try my best to please them. Most of the time they talk amongst each other and when I speak they act like I'm not even there! Has anyone else dealt with workplace bullies? I love my job, but my co-workers are horrible. What should I do

You should put on you big boy pants and just do your job. There is a saying I have always used, "Im here to make money, not make friends". Quit living in Mamby Pamby world and grow up!

Having previously worked in a toxic environment for years too long under an abuse jerk (many a folks would come up to me and say they felt sorry for me and ask me how I could take it), I say you get out as soon as you can find a new job.

Being ignored hardly qualifies as toxic though.

Maybe not to you and me, but this person feels the co-workers are horrible.

I've been around enough to know when I am at a good place verses a bad place. As my dad said to me growing up, you are going to spend a great deal of your life working in some field ... make sure you enjoy what you do and where you work. I think that is very good advice.

Then I guess you have solved this persons problem!

But I still think they need to grow up.

I think this poster needs to take a hard look in the mirror, examine themselves, and consider whether there is something they are doing or have done that has contributed to all these co-workers ignoring them and being rude to them. Many times when it seems like you are the only person who is right, and everyone else is wrong, this is not the case.

Is this person saying inappropriate things? Is this person trying too hard? Have they rubbed co-workers the wrong way (no pun intended, lol)?

While I am on good terms with my co-workers and will chit chat with my immediate supervisor and our assistant at times, we aren't BFFs. I prefer to keep work separate from my life outside of work, and I spend probably 95% of my time in my office alone.

Good points. I recently retired from my second career. After retiring from my first, I learned there are "friends" and there are "work friends". The former will keep in touch with you to some degree, while the later will consider you as evaporated the minute you leave the retirement party.

I don't take it personal. It's just hard to stay in contact when life takes you in different directions. I like that there is professional social networking now, like linkedin, so that you don't completely lose touch.

Thanks for the input guys. I like that motto I'm here to make money, not friends. That will be my new work motto!
