Smoking deaths

I recently attended my mother's funeral. The cause of her death was smoking-related. Four years ago I attended the funeral of my father -- again, the cause was smoking-related. I understand nicotine addiction. Full Story

Deborah, I'm so sorry for the loss of your parents. I agree 100% with your letter. We have had a few smoke-related deaths over the years. Finally everyone on one side of my family quit smoking with the exception of my mother. I think the stress and pressure of quitting smoking is actually making her smoke more and I fear that she won't see her grandchildren grow up. We grew up with relatives smoking right on top of us because we really did not know better. I have 1 sibling that has respiratory-related issues while the other 2 often suffered from bronchitis symptoms before moving out on their own. I never really had any issue but I always hated smoking and would try to go to another room if someone was smoking near me. Either way, I too don't want to take away someone's right to smoke, but it's a shame that we have to lose our relatives earlier than necessary, not to mention the other reasons why it's not a good idea to smoke.

What I don't understand are the smokers who deny they're hurting themselves (or anybody else via secondhand smoke). There's always a story about somebody's Uncle Whoever who allegedly smoked a box of cigars every day of his life and lived to be 109 (probably coughing and wheezing and stinking every minute, especially during those last years). Or else there's the cavalier "Hey, we're all going to die sooner or later anyway, it might as well be from something I enjoy." Not a lot of fun and laughs in the oncology ward of the hospital, though. It's a crap shoot, to be sure, but one whose odds are astronomically against you.

What if someone eats too much and dies from that? Or sky dives and dies from that? Or likes boating but dies from that? Or likes driving in a car......

On the other hand, my parents and parents-in-law all died of "smoking related illness" except that NONE of them ever, ever smoked; none grew up in a family with smokers; none had jobs in a workplace where smoking was permitted. In other words, they not only did not smoke themselves, but also were never subjected to so-called "second hand smoke".

Interestingly, particularly when my MIL died at the age of 87, the physician in the ER did everything imaginable to try to link her condition to smoking.

He as much as said he didn't believe us when we told him she had never smoked and had never been around smoke. He kept INSISTING that she HAD to have been exposed to smoke at some time or another -- but she really hadn't! If she hadn't been struggling so hard at that moment, it might have been funny to see him trying so hard to make that link.

I've had friends with similar experiences. It really makes me question the honesty and integrity of the medical and scientific professions. Rather than report facts, they try too hard to make the "facts" fit into their preconceived agenda.

The vast majority of Americans has had a family member or friends the have died from cancer or heart illnesses. Unfortunitly they are concidered 'smoking related illnesses, and therefore smoking is always the first thought of most if not all medical profesionals. And more then half the time it is not the cause. For those above, I am sorry for your loss.`

If you look at all the studies in here, every disease is caused by smoking. If we eliminate smoking there will be no more deaths or diseases. When any one gets sick it is smoking related no matter what it is. Most everyone should be dead by now according to the studies. They say a billion a year dies from smoking and since there are only 6 billion in the whole world the population should be pretty thin by now.If a woman smokes she can not get pregnant, A man smoker can not get it up to have sex. One whiff of SHS and your dead in minutes.Nothing more deadly in the world.
So where are all the people coming from.

Death by sky diving, boating or driving a car would be an accident. Smoking is no accident. My parents were not over weight, so I can't really comment on eating too much.

By the way everyone, my letter to the editor was not a commentary on the evils of smoking-- smoke away!! All I was saying is both of my parents smoked their entire lives-- healthy otherwise--- and died of emphyzema and lung cancer. So if you want to lie to yourselves and think that smoking doesn't cut your life short, that is fine; however, my point was don't think you will be the only one affected. Again, smoke away!! It's attractive carrying an oxygen tank:)

Speaking of smoking, the smoking fascist gun the ignorant in this country have placed in office is farting on everyone.

No amount of lysol is going to fix this. It blows out of every orifice he has, and it stinks, period.

Oh yeah, fret not, he'll soon have a government regulation for stink levels for the citizenry, however he, congress, and the labor unions will be exempt -- despite the fact that they're the most obnoxious, foul-smelling, rancid pox this nation has ever seen.

Watch it..the hard core smokers will produce a picture of a cigar smoking elderly lady they claim is 107 years old and still kicking and smokes 5 cigars a day..and has been smoking since she was 11 (in reality... she is almost 54 years old).

Smoking is very bad and surely results in deaths.
__________
SCANDAL! SCANDAL! SCANDAL!

EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!

George W. Bush continuously criminally stalked Margie Schoedinger to the point that she could not get away from it, and she committed suicide in desperation to escape: he murdered her.

“In her suit, Margie Schoedinger states that George W. Bush committed sexual crimes against her, organized harassment and moral pressure on her, her family members and close relatives and friends. As Schoedinger said, she was strongly recommended to keep her mouth shut.... Furthermore, she alleges that George Bush ordered to show pressure on her to the point, when she commits suicide”(blog of drizzten).

“One of those ‘very leasts’[was] George Bush’s personal complicity in the death (murder to be precise) of my friend Margie Schoedinger in September of 2003. Determining the exact whereabouts and contacts of ... George Bush on September 21 thru 22, 2003, should be entirely lacking in difficulty”(Leola McConnell—Nevada Progressive Democratic Candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010).

McConnell is correct: Bush applying pressure (continuously criminally stalking Margie Schoedinger) purposefully to force Schoedinger to commit suicide does in fact constitute murder where it culminated in her death.

Bush is a racist hate criminal and hates black people (please feel free to see my “GEORGE W. BUSH IS THE WORST PRESIDENT IN U.S. HISTORY” blog).(Schoedinger was an African-American woman.)

BEWARE: If the president of the United States hates one—for whatever reasons—he can continuously criminally stalk one to the point that one cannot get away from it, and one ultimately commits suicide in desperation to escape. He can murder people in this way.

Bush is getting away with his murder of Schoedinger—with no sheriff, prosecutor, or court willing to uphold the rule of law.

Bush’s method of murdering Schoedinger cannot exist in a vacuum: he must have murdered other people in the same way.

Bush should confess, come out with the names of all of the people whom he murdered in the disgusting way he murdered Schoedinger, undergo execution, and accordingly find himself at the intersection where he would be free.

Well, genetics wouldn't come into play for me with my in-laws. My FIL died pretty young, and as mentioned, my MIL was 87. But should be of more interest to my husband than me, of course.

My father died fairly young,(77) as did most members of HIS family and so yes, it is possible I could have inherited bad genes from that side of the family.

My mother however died at 98 and all but one of her several brothers and sisters also died in their late nineties or early one-hundreds. So if I inherited those genes, I'm okay with that!!! Age notwithstanding, my point was that she died of medical conditions that are usually associated with "smokers". Even at 98, I'm sure there would have been doctors who would have blamed her death on smoking had she ever had a cigarette in her whole life!!

Interestingly, all those brothers and sisters that also lived to be so old? A few of them DID smoke as adults. Things that make you go "hmm".
