LW1: Seriously get over it. I have a similar relationship with my dad at 25. He gives my mom the same quick peck on the lips that he gives me for hello, good-bye, and thank you. She never feels cheated because she knows that he loves her as his wife and me as his daughter. No "foul play." LW1 is just insecure about her own relationship with her husband if she's jealous about her step- daughter.

Father kissing daughter on lips, no matter how lightly, is weird.
Stepmother's intuition is right on.
Stepmother's intuition? No, I have to disagree. This isn't a matter of intuition; this is a matter of jealousy. She's jealous that her new husband is showing affection to his daughter. Gasp! Heaven forbid! A father kiss his daughter. Whether it's on the lips or the cheek, it's just a sign of fatherly affection. We all have different cultural norms.

For example, my family doesn't kiss on the lips, except my Nona. My fiance's family does. His father is Italian, not Italian-American. He's born and raised Italian. He goes for the quick lip kiss, because that was the cultural norm. I give him my cheek to kiss, because that is my cultural norm.

It's no big deal. He isn't hitting on me; and the father isn't hitting on his daughter. No intuition needed. No worries.

About the kissing letter: you said these kisses were "a second or two long." Now have you ever clocked how long is “a second or 2?” I did and it is pretty long, in kissing term. Are you sure it was not just a peck between the dad and daughter, but you felt uncomfortable anyway because it was on the lips? I came from Asia and we Asians DO NOT kiss anyone anywhere, let along the lips. However, I observed my husband’s family, from both side, kiss each other on the cheeks or lips in greetings. I understand this is from their Italian background and I have learned to greet them the same way. Perhaps it is similar for your husband and his family; they might have established a way of greeting based on how your husband was raised, and has nothing to do w/ the act of kissing.
