They had multiple shifts going just over a year ago, probably to support the building boom. I'd guess they currently have about 200 employees there. LaGrande, the owner of Wiremold, is actually a French company. Wiremold has been in West Hartford since the 1880's. They have a good product, but I guess they want to build it in Mexico for cheaper.

This is a link to the history of the company; I got some facts wrong in the post above.

As a former employee that was involved in the "rebirth" of Wiremold under the direction of Art Byrne. All I can say is that Legrand ruined a strong vital company. The vast majority of the improvements that had been made, were set aside because they simply didn't understand them. And since they didn't understand them....they must not have worked......?

I currently work at Wiremold and have for over 9 years. Anyone who calls me or any of my coworkers a drunks because we work by Crazy Bruce’s is an a*!hole. We are all hard working people out to make a living to support our families. We are a family here and are hurt to hear about the layoffs. If anyone has anything negative to say about us feel free to stop by Wiremold one day and say it to our faces rather than hiding behind a computer and see what happens then.

This company engaged in some of the best practices under Lean Manufacturing to stay in this crappy state - CT does not want manufacturing here - but Wiremold tried and actually has an incredible reputation in the industry.

There are many good people that will find great jobs if the plant closes. These jobs won't be in CT however. And to the d-bag comment about Crazy Bruce parking lot - WTF were you doing there to witness anyone else's behavior - what a d-head....

Another sad story of a CT manufacturing company. The USA is very quickly heading towards being a third rate country with all the manufacturing losses not only in CT but all over the country. Very sad.

This is unfortunate news to read and hear, specially for the families. I have met with various current and former employees of Wiremold to try to help them understand and own their benefits as well as now put in place a financial plan that would be flexible enough for change but concrete enough to show direction. It has been hard for them to have the job uncertainty but one thing is for sure their families come first and need to be considered and cared for. If anyone has ideas to how I can reach the new human resources personnel to try and help them place a transition program for departing employees, that would be a great added benefit to the companies image and their loyalty to the employees
