Read it again-- the daughter is the one who suggested it!

Maybe the BFF's been harboring a crush on Dad since forever. But even so, this stuff is probably best left in the realm of fantasy.

I have decided that I was wrong. The friend had her own laptop in her own dorm room. On the floor is irrelevant (though I still think it's a bad idea). Daughter opened a bottle of champagne (on purpose, I don't care what she's says) and got it on Friend's laptop which now won't work. Daughter owes for repair or replacement. Pay up.

While I am insured to the gills now, in my younger days, meh. Then again way back in the dark ages the most pricey thing I would have needed to insure would have been a Walkman. <shrug>

ITA.

Now, if we were having a party and I put my laptop down on the floor and one of the 15 peopel there stepped on it, that's on me. But I should be able to leave it pretty much anywhere in my dorm room and other than it getting stolen (my own fault if I didn't lock it up or lock my door), if someone ruins it, they need to make me whole again.

from the letter...
She saw a bottle of unused Champagne.

Unused is a vague term. What is unused anyway? Does that mean not empty or unopened? Unopened is unopened no doubt about it. Now that I think on it, I bet it was unopened, and when the chick opened it, it overflowed and that is when it got the laptop wet.

I think mom used the word unused to be intentionally misleading.

I have homeowners insurance, car insurance, and health insurance. Anything that is not covered by those, I am more than willing to assume the risk cause I have a tendency to take care of my shit and always have.

Unusedmenas it has not been out of the bottle nor used in some way such as filling a bathtub, being put into a glass, drunk by someone, not filtered through somene's kidneys.

Champagne bottles are not easy to open. I vote for an opened bottle that was partially full.

Change the items involved: If LW's daughter had accidentally run her motorscooter into a grocery cart which ran into someone's car, she would pay the damage.

However, take a page from Sate Farm who uses cheaper replacement parts for repairs. Ge a second estimate and offer the least amount. If computer owner wants a dealer repair let her bear teh difference in cost. Write teh check to teh repair guy so you know for sure it was used for teh purpose the other girl claimed. Not sayin she would rip off a drunk friend, but body damage has been known to be a profit item for some people

L2. Listen Grampa, don't get me riled up. You're not getting any validation here. It's not that she's too young, the problem is that you are too old.
I've always said that if you have to ask permission from Amy then you already know the answer.

i wasn't talking about topix. Just sayin, hypothetically, if i was single, in my 40's, and dating HER?!!? I would not give a rat's ass who disapproved. None of their damn business.
