Any article about Bill Ayers should include this new information. On March 12, the Chicago Breaking News Center reported the following: "Leaders of San Francisco's police officers union have accused Weather Underground co-founder Bill Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, of taking part in the 1970 bombing of a city police station that killed a sergeant, the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting. The union leveled the charge in a letter to a conservative organization lobbying for arrests in the case, but said it had not been in contact with investigators and had no new evidence related to the bombing, which killed Sgt. Brian McDonnell." Naperville must be very proud, especially in the wake of four Bay Area police officers being murdered just last week.

Ayres is a clown. His "educational" theories are flawed. He comes up with these "ideas" that are nothing more than anti-whatever is the course today.

For his terrorist background how can that possibly be held against him when OBAMA himself saddled up to him?

Shame on UIC for giving him and his wife a position. And shame on the Naperville school board for allowing him any public time. And kudos to Obama for staying the ultra-liberal course of having relationships with black racists, anti-american idiots like Ayres, and all the cheats he is surrounding himself with in his "CHANGE" administration. Clown city!~

Ayres is trying to sell his book. And get a little attention, because he craves it.

Turns out the school has had 2nd thoughts and are now considering canceling the invite or changing the venue.

Anyone that is disgusted by this idiot should go to the Naperville North High School web site and write to the Principal or Asst.

Some of your descriptions of Ayers sounded very similar to what Kass wrote in one of his columns ;-)
Again, I can appreciate your perspective. It may sound like a contradiction, but you have articulated your "demonization" of Ayers more thoughtfully than most. I suspect that although we disagree somewhat, we could have a good discussion.
... And I am not sure if I am interpreting your remarks accurately, but I can't help but be amused at your characterization of "those working to change the world through peaceful protest, legislation, the courts, swaying public opinion, and other intelligent peaceful means." I don't remember hearing that reaction at the time ;-)
I have read some of Kass's columns about Blago, but I don't remember if I read any of his columns about Ayers.

I don't know why you are "amused" by my list of alternatives to violence. Gandhi stood up to the entire British Empire and changed India. Martin Luther King showed how powerful peaceful protest can be, and the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act grew out of marches, protests, and boycotts. Women's suffrage marches and speeches changed the image of women in the U.S. and resulted in the 19th amendment to allow women to vote. Surely sit-ins, protests, and marches had something to do with Johnson not seeking the 1968 nomination, and added pressure to end the VietNam war.

I can understand Ayers attraction to bombings and terrorism. Peaceful protests don't provide the instant gratification and adrenaline rush that a bombing does.

Dear NAPERVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT 203 -

If you want someone to talk about "social justice" maybe you should get Charles Manson or the Unibomber. Like Ayers, they thought murder was a tool to accomplish their goals.

Better yet, why don't you find someone who struggled admirably for social justice without resorting to violence. You can have your pick our of millions of Americans.

You say you "would never invite anyone who advocates violence?" Really? Do you know anything about Ayers? If you had made an effort to Google Ayers you would have learned that he founded the violent terrorist organization of The Weathermen. Ayers participated in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters, the United States Capitol building, and The Pentagon in 1970 through 1972. Other Weathermen did other bombings and murders.

A book Ayers co-authored was dedicated to "All Who Continue to Fight" and "All Political Prisoners in the U.S." with a list of 200 including Sirhan Sirhan (assassin of Robert Kennedy).

In a 2001 interview, Ayers was quoted as saying "I don't regret setting bombs" and "I feel we didn't do enough." When Ayers was asked if he would "do it all again" he said "I don't want to discount the possibility."

Ayers paticipated in the 1969 Chicago riot "Days of Rage" in Chicago. From the August 2001 article "No Regrets" in Chicago Magazine:
'... "The Days of Rage," as the 1969 protest was called, brought several hundred members of the Weatherman—many of them attired for battle with helmets and weapons—to Lincoln Park. The tear-gassed marches, window smashing, and clashes with police lasted four days, during which 290 militants were arrested and 63 people were injured. Damage to windows, cars, and other property soared to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Around this time, Ayers summed up the Weatherman philosophy as "Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents—that's where it's really at." '

In the same 2001 Chicago Magazine article there is a current picture of Ayers standing on an American flag on the ground.

Ayers and Dohrn were FBI fugitives for 10 years. Ayers escaped conviction on a technicality, and he said "Guilty as hell, free as a bird—America is a great country."

Ayers has never expressed remorse.

There is much more disturbing information about Mr. Ayers. Is this really the kind of person you want influencing your children?

This is nauseating. I have had two children graduate from Naperville North, and it has been a constant battle to correct the garbage they are filled with there. First it is Howard Zimm's version of White Americans raping the world, then it is Let's All Be Silent in Honor of Homosexuals Day. This school district has completely and utterly lost touch with reality, and I for one, feel it is time to stop paying any property taxes to support this kind of worthless indoctrination.

What can Ayers offer the students of today? His membership in the Weather Underground should have him in jail for his complicity in murder. It's not a social science to bomb America, it is a crime. I doubt if he will speak at all honestly about his Svengali-like influence on Obama, but that too, has no relevance for today's high school student. And his "small schools" agenda is nothing short of the complete corruption of the curriculum that teaches that 1 plus 1 equals 2, and substitutes a radical anarchist agenda, with strong support from the Saul Alinsky school of terrorist thought.

Naperville doesn't want this garbage, Illinois doesn't need this propaganda, and America would be well served if this unrepentant terrorist and his friends in high places would go immediately to jail, without passing Go, and without collecting another dime from us in their wealth redistribution and extortion schemes.

This is why Prof Allan Bloom (who is now deceased) wrote the book "Closing of the American Mind".

When he wrote it, he didn't have enough science behind him to define it better (much like I suppose a cancer researcher in the 60's), but we now know that the cause is Modern Liberalism.

Bloom was wondering why the kids were so stupid all of a sudden. It's because of the liberalism that started in the schools in the 60's. The indoctrination they force into kids reduces the kids' ability to think and reason about many subjects.

Universities were places that sought the truth, but with Modern Liberals running things, the truth is whatever they tell you - which means that a lot of subjects outside of science become political.

This is why liberals came up with speech codes and political correctness. Bringing in Ayers is a way to push on the kids that Ayers "isn't so bad."

There will be little discussion about Ayers's bombings or that his wife is thought to have killed a San Francisco Police Officer.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi...

Ayers and his wife should be in jail and they shouldn't be involved with any teaching of kids.

And the leaders of the schools should be taken to task for the liberalism.

I think high school kids would get far more education and enjoyment out of some guy like Dr. Michio Kaku talk about time travel and string theory.

Bill Ayers is a controversial figure it would seem that him coming to Naperville North to speak just causes division and ill feelings. I don't see what good can come of it. Why load down the current generation with the old generations hatred for each other's political views?

Imagine how tolerant the Left would be if a Ann Coulter came to speak. They'd be fighting this tooth and nail.

However, since liberals control many of our schools (which is why they are so bad), don't expect conservatives to get invited.

Thats really sad. There are many more inspirational and worthy figures then Bill Ayers. Why would a school be so divisive and go out of its way to bring a known terrorist in?
The invitation came from the fact that Ayers was going to be attending a local book store downtown Naperville on the day of the lecture. A social studies teacher at Naperville North H.S is a former student and current disciple of Ayers. The teacher made contact and set up the opportunity for the lecture.
The other reason Ayers was invited was because Timothy McVeigh is in prison and unable to attend the lecture.
Prison is where Ayers should have spent some time. Unfortunately, the federal prosecuter totally screwed up the Ayers case which followed the Chicago 7 trials /fiasco and decided it was jut easier to drop the charges against Bill Ayers.

Here in MN we have Kathleen Soliah aka Sarah Jane Olsen. This former Simbonese Liberation radical from CA was involved in a shooting/bombing of a bank that killed a teller. Thirty years later she was living the life of a suburban mom like nothing happened. We made sure she was brought to justice for her crimes. She was recently released from jail and I still don't think she has a right to talk to students about any message she may have. Ayers has served no time and brags about it. He serves no one but himself. Shut him down.

I am not a right-winged conservative by any means. But a lot of us Vietnam era boomers are un-happy ( and maybe a bit irrational) about Bill Ayers comming to our community.
I want intervention from Mayor Pratel, the school board, the chamber of commerce, concerned parents and athletic coaches.

While none of my property tax goes to school district 203 ~ a large part of my sales tax ARE collected by Naperville bussinesses and restaurants but that could change. In other situations like this I usually just quietly boycott or make a conscience effort to withhold any monies of support. That how I feel right now. I don't want to buy raffle tickets , entertainment coupons, band candy, wrapping paper or cookies from Naperville students. I don't want to eat in local restaurants or patronize some of the unique shops. I will take my bussiness elsewhere ......not that anyone will notice but I'll feel better about myslef since I feel my community has betrayed me. I might be irrational but at least I'm honest.

This social studies teacher should be weeded out and sent for psychological help. People who follow Ayers and can't see the problems have some sort of mental disorder. At a minimum, he/she should not be teaching until some sort of determination can be made.

It is thoroughly sickening to discover such intolerance and hatred, on both sides of the spectrum. Although I personally disagree with the opinions and actions of Ayers, I still believe in democracy and his right to speak. If my generation grows up to become this intolerant, I will truly fear for this country.

All this talk about fascism being a leftist ideology and you suggest we take a teacher in for "psychological help" for trying to give his students differing points of view. Why don't we take in all other socialists and athiests in so they don't try to impress their beliefs on students. Most, if not all, of the teacher's (whose name I will not give for reasons of people trying to harass him) students defend his invitation of Ayers because they like him as a teacher and the atmosphere of his classroom that promotes discussion of opposing viewpoints.

You seem to be missing the point. Its not Ayers' right to free speech that people are objecting to. The man was a captain of domestic terrorism! He spent his early adulthood trying to destroy public property and cohorting with those whose only purpose was to do great harm to this country. HE BLEW UP BUILDINGS in order to get media attention . Now he wants to lecture students on social in-justice. A topic he should know so well. Intentialy bombing public buidlings and harming innocent citizens IS A MASSIVE FORM OF SOCIAL INJUSTICE!
Ayers aided in the co-ordinatiion of bombings in order to do GREAT HARM to people AND PROPERTY. Neither he nor his wife regret their actions and feel no remorse . No condrition.

The students of Naperville should be able to recognize what happened on 911 was wrong! What happened in Oklahoma City was wrong! And what the Weathermen did in the 60s was totally wrong. The student don't have to listen to a known terrorist to know terrorism is wrong.
