Where am I Baghdad? A street curfew? Hmmm so now it's illegal to just be a teenager after 10 PM. Fabulous. Chalk this up to another pathetic nanny law. We need to get Daley OUT. Ditto with this pathetic City Council. Too bad they don't spend their time figuring out how to educate these kids. I guess we gave up on that and decided to just throw em in jail.

Lets face it if kids are out past 11 PM on a Friday night their parents don't care about them anyway. There is not an ordinance that will motivate these dead beat parents. Just start building bigger jails because some people never learn and never will because they don't care to.

I feel bad for the good kids who have part time jobs and will encounter difficulty because of the new ordinance.

It seems that they are also victims of the gangbangers and delinquent teenagers who this law is intended for.

Anyone 16 or younger should be locked in their domiciles by 5:00pm daily.

That's the way it works in Cuba.

The curfew is for kids 16 and under. If you are 16 and have a job that keeps you at work til past 10 o'clock on a school night then thank GOD there are curfews.
NO child that young should be working that late on a fricking school night.
It's called HOMEWORK...look into it. My teenage son is home on schoolnights doing homework for up to 5 hours a night. Not a lot of time left for a job for crying out loud.
I am glad for the curfew. Kids don't need to be out that late at night, if they are it's usually because they're being counter-productive anyway.
This is a good thing. Keep in mind people, this is for 16 and under, it's not for adults.

If your son, if you actually have one, is home doing 5 hours of homework a night, then I have to wonder just what in the heck does he do during school or the rest of his day? Having raised three high school students, with two in college right now, as am I, I have to think you are just blowing smoke.

As a college student, we don't have five hours of homework a night. My 16 year old has a job and she needs to make the money to help out with things like her car insurance and other items. There have been times when she is working until 11 or 11:30 at night. Mind you it is not every night, but there are occassions. Besides, it is not like she would be home sleeping by then anyway. Her grades are excellent by the way.

But again, she, along with so many others, are being punished for the stupidity and deliquency of others. Seems we are all getting screwed because some people don't know how to behave.

Your kidding right? 11:00? If my 17 year old son goes to a 9:00 show at the theatre, he typically won't get home by 11:00. Who do you think you are passing judgement on me? Who should decide how late my kids can be out? You, me, or "the village?"

There is ALREADY a curfew on the books...this one just moves the hours up and changes the age to 16 from 18.
Get real...it's for kids under 16, who by the way shouldn't be driving by themselves anyway, they wouldn't have drivers ed yet in public schools.

Actually it changes from what is now 17 to 16 years of age. Oh, and while you may not agree that 16 year olds should be driving alone, some do it out of necessity.

Regardless, the point of everyone's controversy stems from the fact that eventually you have to stop and ask "why". If curfews are suppose to be a deterent against crime, does anyone honestly believe that the average gangbanger, hood, or criminal is going to give a rats behind whether or not the curfew has been changed? Their lives are going to continue on as usually and once again the innocent who are out for legitimate reasons will be the ones getting pulled over, ticketed and bothered.

Just checked the Secretary of State website at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments... . According to that website, the current state curfew is 11:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and 10:00 pm all other days. This applies to anyone 17 and under. Am I missing something here?

When I went to school I worked a couple of nights a week. Even though I technically was off by 09:00 pm, sometimes I didn't get home until 10:30.

Not all teens have idyllic existances with two parents in the suburbs, some really do need the money. Also, keep in mind that these same teens are trying to save money, in many cases, for college.

If the law is for those under 16, they aren't permitted to work for the most part.

This is stupid. My son has sports practice that goes beyond 10:00 at night. Parents need to take responsibility for their children. We don't need the government doing the job for us.

Practice until 10? What time does he have to get up in the morning? I hope he doesn't drive home at that time. No wonder these kids are all jacked up on red bull. You kid should be in bed getting ready for school the next day. MG

dont blame the city council or the mayor for the fault of the parents who cant look after their children. it is their responsibility to look after their own child and make sure that they are on the right path in life instead of shooting at other people with guns and take other people's life. be thankful that the city council and mayor actually care. just wait until one of your own child getting hurt or losing someone you love. you will be the one pushing curfew then. if no curfew are passed then more kids will be hurt or be endangered thanks to those, who doesn't discipline their child.
