All I want to know is when AT&T (and other cell phone services) will be selling Nokia smartphones.

“Thank you, come again!”

So I'll actually be able to walk into the freezer section of Dominicks and still have a signal?!

AT&T has the worst service out of any provider. Adding towers might get them up to speed but I doubt it.

There claim to have the fastest 3G network is not true. 3G is just a network and has nothing to do with speed. So I am told.

So why does my signal stink in the city in many places? I see a storm brewing in my future.

James, I love your 'voice of the expert' stance you've adopted. Here is a starting point for 3G 101, read it and become more educated before you start criticizing.

Their 3G service is based on HSDPA which currently has max speed of 3.6 MB/s or possibly 7.2 MB/s. Verizon and Spint use EvDO for 3G service which at best gives them a 3.1 MB/s speed. That's probably what the claim is based on.

Well isn't that lovely... I can't seem to avoid the "Call Failed" syndrome 3 or 4 times in the city everyday, but they can expand their network? Try fixing the one you've got... I'll sit next to my friends texting away at an event and here I am with no signal.

They sure need to add a tower or two in the Dearborn Park neighborhood if they want those of us with iphones to stay with them after our contracts are up. The phone service and data speeds are awful in in the old rail yard. We are fed up!!

They need to fix the issues in Chicago before expanding to new markets. I switched to tmobile and haven't dropped a call since.

Yep, my iPhone drops calls ALL OVER the Chicago area. It's brutal. I get better, more stable signal up in the mountains in Colorado at 10,000 feet than I do in most of Cook County. Talking to my wife the other day, my phone dropped the call 11 times in about 30 minutes. Wow, their service stinks here.

AT&T service sucks. I have the iPhone and consistently lose calls. I've had 3 different iPhones and the situation didn't improve with any of them. The 3G service is POOR. I usually get faster response with Edge. The big problem with 3G is actually waiting and waiting for it to connect to web pages. It is SLOW. If I download a file then the throughput is fast but the latency in loading all web content or emails is poor and they know it. They are facing a lot of lawsuits over their false claims. I would have left AT&T long ago if I weren't addicted to my iPhone.

Yeah well unless you are in Peoria, Kankakee, or Champaign, it doesn't look like your service is going to get any better from ATT. I also experience dropped calls regularly. I often have no reception in my OWN HOUSE!

I live and work in Chicago, and I rarely manage to get into a 3G zone. The entire time I'm downtown (whether at my desk or at a bus stop or in a bus), my iPhone shows I'm connected to E rather than 3G. Heck, I work next door to an AT&T building, and I can't get 3G anywhere in my office building.

There are a couple of spots on Lake Shore Drive on my way home when I have a few minutes of 3G, but once I'm near the Edgewater neighborhood, it's all E all the time. The brief moments I'm on 3G, it's delightful. Nice fast downloads. Wish it were all over the city. I can't believe what crap service AT&T has in the city.

In the last few months alone, my ATT coverage (non-3G) has gone from ok to lots of drops. Drops at home -- to no coverage. Drops on Diversey at Damen. Drops on the Kennedy Expressway between the Ohio Street Feeder and North/Armitage. Second-by-second variances between 5 bars and no service on the 33rd floor of an unobstructed downtown building with big windows facing south...
Dropped Calls

My iPhone has spotty coverage in the western suburbs...especially in parts of Lombard and Oakbrook. Dropped calls and no signal are the norm with ATT during my morning commute yet they claim time and time again it is my phone...only problem is my previous phones had the same problem and the iPhone data usage makes you realize even more how poor coverage is in so many suburban areas.
