This has been an ongoing story since the Tribune bought the Cubs and were able to put the games on WGN, serving all farm lands across the midwest. You are late getting the story. Sox fans could care less about the team from the northside.. That being said, what we don't like is for delusional fans with no knowledge, mush less history on the game talking trash about baseball. Only Cub fans would like to ignore 2005 and their own history of choking while chalking up a WS win (near sweep, mind you) as a fluke... Yeah, right. We just laugh and laugh at you all. It's quite comical to see the trainwreck that is Cub Nation. EEE-Yes!!! HELL, YEAH!!! The Cubs have been on WGN since the '50s and the trib bought them in the early '80s. A knowelagable s.side fan such as yourself doesn't know that?

WGN became a "Superstation" around 1978 when they began broadcasting via satellite many Cub games to every hick in the midwest and then expanding around the country to millions of cable and satellite viewers, mostly watched by children and unemployed adults (the Cubs core viewers). Convenient that it coincided with the sale of the Cubs to the Tribune a couple years later. But you're a Cubs fan so I wouldn't expect you to know that. The Chicago Cubs, under .500 since 1908.

They bought the Cubs to avoid having to pay for the rights to broadcast the games. The only thing cable did was bring the tourists. The sox were for sale in roughly the same time frame. Why didn't the tribune buy the sox to fill their programming schedule? The cubs were and are a better product to market.

the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS are coming to town. if they even take 2 of 3 games, the CUBS ARE in trouble. there are at least 4 teams BETTER THAN THE CUBS! I will be VERY SURPRISED if this CUBS team o0f "UNDER" achievers gets into the playoffs! TOO MANY injuries & "lackluster" offense spells DISASTER! __________ ARE YOU READY FOR FOOTBALL? I am! i can hear the marching band in the distance. LETS GO IRISH!!!!!!!!!!at least they WONT be boring this year! and that you can take to the bank my fellow CUBBIE fans!

Steve wrote: <quoted text> point taken. But its not about popularity , it is an essential element to running a business, which is what the team is. Clearly, for him to make the comments he did Kenny is seeing this as a potential roadblock for the way he wants to do business. Im just saying, the team is in contention, there is no reason why the fan base isnt getting out there to support the squad. Because I'd rather support them in the comforts of my home(I watch EVERY game) instead of dropping $100 on tickets, parking, food, traffic, etc. I go to 8-10 games a year, but I don't have $4,000 in disposable income for season tickets and extra for parking. Does that make me less of a fan? I don't think so. I am a die hard Sox fan, always have been. I even follow Kannapolis, Winston-Salem, Birmingham, and Charlotte. But I'm not a Cub hater, my wife is a Cub fan. I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a ruse for Dempster to spend time with his wife and daughter. The DL is a perfect way to get time off, and also the club can call someone up to take his place(instead of just "personal leave")

Steve wrote: Maybe the Sox fans on this thread should get off here and go buy some tickets. Your own GM is calling out the fans for not supporting the team. Jeez. Ive been to the cell this year, have you? He said the Dodgers series was a real "eye opener". Thats embarassing... maybe you should take a look on the SOX threads and see how many of your butt buddies are over there.

Henry Hill wrote: <quoted text> No reason?? Do you not follow the economic news? The Sox fan base does not have the North Shore Trust Funders found at Wrigley Field on a Tuesday at 1:20pm. They operate in the real world; not fantasy land. An outfield bleacher seat for the mid-week "eye-opening" dodger series was $52 each. Sorry; I'll watch it at home. Lower the prices and the fans will come. Its simple economics; but apparently too simple for you. Bingo! Why the Sox charge so much is beyond me.

Steve wrote: By the way, how do you feel as a fan that your lack of support is potentially preventing the team from making moves. Seriously. I would feel terrible... It's actually part of being a Sox fan... Being the underdog is a racist city like Chicago is one of the reason I'm such a Sox fan... It's amusing that the Sox are almost always better than the Cubs, though.

Steve wrote: <quoted text> I dont ignore 2005. I rooted for the White Sox to win and they had a great run and some of the best post season starting pitching I have ever seen. And I live in Chicago, it is news, it was reported today. So, if by, getting the story late, you mean I read the paper at noon, then yes. I suppose I couldve read it earlier? It was news enough for Kenny Williams to discuss it yesterday. What I find comical is the amount of time, effort, anger and frustration that Sox fans put into the Cubs. Seriously. The fact that you took the time to come to a thread with a headline, "Chicago Cubs Ryan Dempster could miss month" just says it all. I dont get it really? So while you are "laughing at us all" just remember you are the one who is investing time in the team from the northside, not vice versa. I can't speak for the others, but the reason I torture Cub fans every chance I get is because the racist city of Chicago embraces the team that plays in the white part of town.
