Chicago is a politically ignorant GangsterCrat ruled City. The Children's best interests are not important. The Unions own City Hall and Springfield. The Voters are too stupid to handle self govt.

The RepubliCANTs will push charter schools hard next election. RepubliCANT governors promising the dreamers or "undocumented" immigrants discounted in state school tuition was only the first part of their plan. Education will be their issue of choice. Why because they can pander to the immigrant and/or minority community by telling them how public education sucks and private schools funded by a voucher are the way to go. It's a back door way of pandering to the minority or immigrant vote.
Problem is the voucher is tax payer money. There are private or charter schools then there are religious schools(separation of church and state). Then the politics of who gets the various contracts-ick.
Anyway look for education to become the RepubliCANT issue. This will be a multi pronged attack. First priority will be to dis public education and the teacher unions-this battle is for their core constituency. Then they will pander via a backdoor to the inner city minority and/or immigrant community by telling them they can have a voucher to send their children to private school. The in state tuition strategy will continue as well. But all this is spending tax payer money, the same spending issues then hammer the DemoRATs on.
But look for the RepubliCANTS to make public education their issue this year.

This case from the Philadelphia area will be used to sell school choice and voucher on a national level.
A Philadelphia couple sent their kid to a school in a district where they did not live. They lied, got caught and after various tacts they came to a deal to avoid criminal charges for theft of government services.
Conservative radio pushed this issue yesterday because a criminal trial was about to begin in regards to this case. Point being the the RepubliCANTS will push school choice and continue with tuition discounts for ILLEGAL aliens. Christie and others did not do this on a whim. Some where in the RepubliCANT leadership this is how they think they can capture minority and big city voters which traditionally go to the DemocRATs.
Problem with school choice in particular is that it will diss the teachers unions and public school systems which are some of the largest employers in these areas. School choice will backfire as will tuition discounts for ILLEGALS. Funny how the RepubliCANTs don't mind state funds footing the bill for adult ILLEGAL immigrants & college tuition discounts but fight every attempt to channel more money to the public schools which teach kids. Who actually needs government money more-kids or adults who can make choices including going to their home country, not going to college or actually paying the proper/full amount of tuition. Children don't have that choice.
Who is directing the RepubliCANT pandering.

So instead just keep pushing kids into schools that have nothing but an extremely poor record? What about all the Dems in that state who cry for giving kids a fighting chance? What about the poor kid in the ghetto who doesn't have a chance in his current school? What about him getting a fresh start at a school with smaller class sizes and teachers who arent beholden to unions and instead want to help kids? All the while Rahm is plugging for a new library to plaster Obama's name on but meanwhile, kids are in failing schools and being killed over sneakers and turf. But ya, Blame the "reTHUGlicans" in your Dem controlled state for all your problems. nothing will change until you stop pointing fingers and start taking some responisibility and change the status quo. The people deserve the gov they vote for. and you got it! Enjoy!

Public schools are part of the problem but throwing money at it even if to private or charter schools is just as dangerous as the public education system. Rahm is wasting time on Obama's library while there are record shootings/killings and declining public schools. But do you try to fix the system first or simply try something else. If you scare the teachers unions enough with potential loss of jobs they'll relent on things like more evaluations.
I heard one conservative talking head say you should be able to pick any public school in your state. Not only is that logistical kaos that's unfair to people & areas that pay higher taxes which would more than likely bare the burden of public school choice. But this is a soft conservative proposal on conservative radio.. Conservative radio also wants money for religious schools as well-that should be a separation of church & state issue but it's not to these conservatives proposing this.
The DemocRATs keep on playing the victim and crying not enough money which is useless as well. I think the RepubliCANTs should be looking at ways to get of rid tenure/union roadblocks and come up with their own set of standards to counter Common Core. Unfortunately public education has become a too big to fail business in the government sector let alone the private sector.

Im a firm believer in Vouchers/School Choice. Transportation is the parents problem. It works here in MA (though I understand that every state is very different). Most times parents w kids cant wait until teh state gets around to fixing important issues like crime and schooling because the idiots they elect want to build monuments to honor their idols (useless library while kids die in the streets). Like I said, you get the gov you vote for.
Unfair to higher taxed towns - The vast majority of school funding comes from the state anyways so all tax payers have a say (or should) in public schools. In MA, when you school choice your kid out of district, that money allotted for your kid (say 5k for the hell of it) goes with your kid to the new district and out of the former district's budget. So it SHOULD wash out evenly (or close enough). This way it benefits a school for doing well (adding funds) and penalizes a shit school (taking away funds) forcing the districts to look deeper and more seriously into their issues as they lose students (no big deal) and cash (that they really care about). Private schools are private. No public money should be allowed to be transferred to private schools. thats a bit over the top i agree. Separation of church and state is there for a reason.
Union issues - When kids are transferring out of shit schools with shit teachers and taking that cash with them, guess what? Funding dries up and the district must make big changes along with the union if it wants to keep teachers employed. No two ways around it when the teachers aren't making the grade (so to speak) and no union can change that. Kids fleeing schools reflects directly on the staff at those schools. They have nobody to blame but themselves.
We are supposed to be doing whats best for the 20-30 kids in the class room, not whats best for 1 teachers pension. The sooner the unions and teachers realize they are dong a shit job, the sooner these things will get fixed. It took the state of MA High chool drop out rates to sky rocket into the %40s in the cities for the state to allow kids to transfer to the suburbs and only then did the unions realize they were in a losing position and allowed itself to be tested (MCAS) forcing out MANY older teachers who had no interest in teaching and only cared about seniority by forcing them to go back to school and update their skills. many took retirement that they should have taken decades before at the cost of kids education so they could fatten their wallets.
Extreme times call for extreme measures. But again, when electing people who clamor for fees for trains passing through the city carrying HAZMAT and ignoring 448 homicides and 1778 shot and wounded, well... Time to vote for a new party...
