What is wrong with all you negative people. Father Pat was a wonderful man. He scared the higher ups of the Catholic Church because he spoke the truth. May he rest in peace.

I was a parishioner at Holy Family when it was started by Fr. Med in the Fremd high school cafeteria and was for years. I was there when Fr. Pat arrived and was a guest priest. He was a phenomenal homilist, a great communicator. I was there when the parish applauded when it was announced that he would be the new pastor when Fr. Med left. Unfortunately, Fr. Pat then used his communication skills to bash the bishop and Magisterium of the Catholic Church. He had his own idea of what the mass should look like and experimented with it. Some of this was passed over by the bishop; other things were not. I left the parish after I heard him complain in a homily about Pope JP II (of "The Great" and "santo subito" fame). Fr. Pat wrote a homily about how "a good leader knows when to step aside" as if to offer some free advice to our Pope.(Incidentally, this homily was later published in a text entitled "The Best Homily's of Fr. Pat Brennan"). Too bad Fr. Pat did not follow his own advice--instead he fought the bishop tooth and nail, to the detriment of the parish, in order to remain. It should be said that Cardinal George allowed him to remain if Fr. Pat would promise to leave after another few years, which allowed him to complete some building projects, only to be told when that time was up that Fr. Pat still did not want to go. I witnessed a number of liturgical abuses (and invented local traditions) while attending mass there. Indeed, back when Dawn Eden and Fr. Pat had their live radio show, "Horizons," I heard Fr. Pat state live on air that he did not believe in the literal Ascension of Jesus (Fr. Pat: "we all know that humans can not fly like airplanes"). Catholic parishioners have a right to a priest who believes in the dogma of the Catholic faith and who will say that Catholic mass the way it is supposed to be said, without personal inventions of the priest. Be wary of popular priests who steer you away from the true faith. I pray that Fr. Pat's soul rests in peace.

I believe he died of cancer. I can honestly say that Colin would not have been ousted like he was under Fr Pats watch. We attended Holy Family for years. He was a wonderful priest. He took the stodgy old readings and made them relevant to my kids. Rest in peace Father Pat
