He is beleaguered because he has a persecution complex as large as the sky. Everone is against him and "nobody loves him." This guy cries fowl all the time and is a poor excuse for a priest. He is paranoid and feels that the world is "out to get me." He does not practice what he preaches from the pulpit. He thinks on no one but himself. Brennan wanted to stay at Holy Family and when it was decided he was not going to stay (by the Cardinal of Chicago) he whined and tried his best to be a divisive force in the parish. He actually expected all parishioners to side with him and fight the Cardinal. When he realized that most people are more mature and did not wish to fight they automatically became "the enemy." He acts like a child that does not get his way. He has about twenty followers at Holy Family who think he was wronged, too and want to take it out on all the other parishioners. Actually, the parish is flourishing with out him. Our new Pastor, Fr. Terry Keehan, is everything Brennan is not. It is truly a shame that Brennan could not act like an adult and stop playing the wounded little boy. He is a disgrace to his collar.

This is sad. For as long as I have lived in the area Holy Family was held up as the model Vatican II parish, with Fr. Brennan as its shepherd. I had not heard of these "darker" elements. I wish Fr. Keehan the best. You are in my prayers

Oh pleeeeze. Sorry Judge it but I don't think you experienced the "real Brennan." When he first came to HF I, too, thought he walked on water. After knowimg him for fifteen years, I had an entirely different opinion of him. He was a wonderful homilist, but NEVER practiced what he preached. You say you don't go to HF so how can you judge. I have gone there and have seen him disentigrate into a whining, conniving divisive person and priest. As I said before, he is a disgrace to his collar by his actions of late.

I received the sacrament of marriage from Fr. Brennan 13 years ago and am saddened to hear that there is discord. The church as a family needs to stay together and remember that we are not to judge. Priests are not on the alter for our entertainment but rather to bring us Christ each and every time we go to Mass-what a blessing. There is a serious priest shortage and I pray that more young men will discern this vocation and wish all the best to Fr. Pat.

I've know Fr. Pat for 30 years and he has been one of the best priest in our parish. The people that didn't like him really didn't know him.The Cardinal was angry with Fr. Pat because he spoke the truth about the new missal. With all of the people leaving our faith, they didn't need another reason to stop going to Mass!
Yesterday Fr.Pat died and I know that he's with Jesus today. He lived everyday of his life for Jesus and we will miss him!

God thank you for Fr. Pat!

Father Pat was the best Catholic priest of our era. He was the man who brought me back to the faith. He was the one who Baptized our two children and supported us when my husband was fighting stage IV cancer. He was an amazing homilist, spiritual director and disciple of Christ.

I am blessed to have had him as my pastor of HF and feel eternally grateful for his encouragement and pastoral counsel. After months of sp direction and discernment I pursued hospital chaplaincy. I am a better chaplain because of his leadership. May the heavens rejoice in his welcoming home!

I have know Father Pat Brennan for many, many years. The Archdiocese of Chicago thought he was
so great at his talent that they asked him to start
a new evangelization program for Chicago area. He
was a talented and dedicated servant of the Lord, a person well in tune with the changes needed with
Vatican II.

The problem he ran into was the institutional gang
on Superior Street. The same gang that wanted to run Father Flager out of town. Boy, hats off to that gang, they did a great job with pedophiles now didn't they. I know that Fr. Pat is in heaven
as God had prepared a place for him also.

I grew up Catholic. I attended Catholic schools in the archdiocese of Joliet until I was 17. I was an altar boy in the 1980s. I became estranged from the Roman Catholic Church in the 1990s because as I grew older the church seemed to me more like a political body or a corporation. It seemed to be less-and-less about the simple and beautiful teachings of Jesus.

Each time I attended a mass, I heard the same message about how the church needed money. I watched the church cling to its precious traditions - just like the Sanhedrin did 2000 years ago. I have witnessed the church sacrifice good people to protect and maintain those traditions. I believe Fr. Pat Brennan was one of those whom the church sacrificed (which incidentally places Fr. Pat in very exalted company).

I now live in Indianapolis. I confess that I have never heard Fr. Pat say mass. My aunt emailed Fr. Pat's sermons to me each week. I read them each Sunday afternoon. I looked forward to them like a drink of water on a hot day. In a way, Fr. Pat brought me back to the church. Even though he is gone, his message of faith was clear to me. I won't forget this man who touched my life and made it more bearable. I want to conclude by cautioning anyone who would judge Fr. Pat's life and then call themselves believers. Woe be unto you!

May God bless Fr. Pat and welcome him into his loving embrace! And may God have mercy on us all...

I was very fortunate to be a friend of Pat and he was very dynamic. When he said Mass and homily, people looked forward to hearing his words. He knew what people were feeling and what was going on in their lives. He was very busy and yes, sometimes he was over booked. He always wanted to say yes to everyone. He married all 3 of our children and he created a bond with the young and old. That's why it hurt me the read the words of that disgusted HF member. I know Fr. Pat forgives him so we must also!
God Bless his soul today! No more suffering, no more pain, no more disappointment!

I drove 45 minutes every Sunday to be inspired by Father Pat's homilies. He was real, sincere, and what the Cardinal did to him was a travesty! Punished because he had some difficulty understanding the new missal... it was refreshing to hear that a priest had human difficulties and SHARED THEM with the parish. We left Holy Family when Father Pat left..He and Father Barron are the most inspirational priests I have encountered..Father Pat brought me closer to God.He was ahead of his time --- could touch everyone's soul in the church...and did so at each homily!
I am certain Fr. Pat is no longer in pain.
Rejoice, Father Pat is home with the Lord!
And Shame on Mr. Judgemental---- you call yourself a Catholic...you need to look at yourself a wee bit closer. Your harsh judgements aren't Christianlike....

20 fans? Try 20,000. I moved to Palatine because of Father Pat. I became part of the young adult ministry because of Father Pat. My kids attended Holy Family Academy because of Father Pat. My family left Holy Family for Willow Creek when the illustrious Cardinal booted him. He was a wonderful homilest and man....he will be sorely missed here on earth, but is welcomed in God's Kingdom !

I am a life-long Catholic and my family was Holy Family parishoners for the seven years we lived in the Chicago area. Father Pat was the most excellent priest we have ever had. His homilies were absolutely inspirational. He explained the readings, the historical significance, the application to modern life. The assembly was never talked down to; instead we were challenged both spiritually and intellectually. He offered us everything he could with humility as a fellow human being. He was not a perfect human being as none of us are, but gave us all he had. We will always yearn for the wonderful experience we had at Holy Family. Rest well, Father Pat. You are loved and cherished by many.

Father Pat was an inspiration to me. I converted from Lutheran to Catholcism prior to marrying my Catholic husband. Fr. Pat, always made sense of the bible to me, and applied it to the here and now. Whenever, I left church I felt that I took away a very useful message. I feel that he was a rebel, which to me was very refreshing. He really wanted to make changes and that's what kept me coming to church. After he left, I just didn't feel the connection and have strayed from the church. After being at his memorial today, I feel the need to get back to church. However, I don't now if I will ever feel the connectedness that I felt when Father Pat was at Holy Family.

You are so wrong "disgusted Holy Family parishioner" and you should be ashamed of yourself . Pat Brennan was probably one of the most spiritual, caring, authentic people I have ever met. 74 percent of Holy Family wanted him to be the pastor till he chose to retire. Macho men like you couldn't see how courageous he was in his life. He was a saint as far as my husband and I were considered. The only one who is to blame for Pat,s transfer was a group of wealthy parishioners that worked with the Cardinal to get rid of Pat. They succeeded.

Now a few years later, pat has died and we have lost a prophet. He was a kind and deeply caring man. He was a true follower of Our Lord. The Cardinal is responsible for his death. He hounded him and Pat had no where to go as far as A job. And why was this allowed? Because,he spoke the truth on the pedophile scandal. The changing of the liturgical language and many other things that were wrong with the Church. No one I know was as gorgeous as this man and he gave his life to stand for the true teachings of Jesus Christ

Pat you are home now and we all miss you very much. You were a true and dedicated servant of The Lord. Thank you for all you did for all of us over the past 40 years. Bill and I will miss you very much. JCE
