Oh I don't know, how about an 18yo(barely) girl may or may not be able to handle a guy trying to seduce her. A 20yo man probably could manage to refuse a gift from someone if he were so inclined. Not quite the same thing IMO.
Is a 20 yr old REALLY all that more mature than an 18 year old? Problem is, I see it as the same thing. I got the impression the neighbor was "sniffing up" these boys' trees. And in the original letter, it didn't sound like the kids were refusing these gifts. Maybe they were naive and clueless... but isn't that the problem? Do you REALLY think their parent should back off and MYOB? JUST because they're 19 and 20?

"If the kid is 18 and a girl, then yeah the parent should jump in. But if it's a 20 year old guy, then the parent should butthefuckout." That your argument? Because it sounds pretty weak.

Of course it all depends on what the 20yo guy is like, but I would think most should be able to handle the situation. When my son was 20, I wouldn't have given a thought to interfere. So I guess it depends.

Yeah, we both do! My Dad used to work for LILCO up there. I grew up a few towns from there myself and I still have family there. It was so funny because he said it without even realizing it and I commented that Patchogue was a pretty far drive for an appointment.
What an odd coincidence that he mentioned it randomly yesterday and then it showed up on your ISP! <plays Twilight Zone theme>
I'm retired from the phone company. Say hi to your dad!

LW1: I totally understand that you want to minimize the impact of this woman's completely unacceptable behavior to your great-nephew, but your family needs to tough love your niece and be a good influence on that poor child. It's time for an intervention.

LW2: Team Red.

LW3: Team liner. A 20-year-old man is capable of fending off any unwelcome advances, IF that is what's coming up. Like I posted the first time, is this a nice older man who never had sons of his own, or a nice older gay man who has a crush on one or both of original LW's sons? We don't know. I say back off and let them handle it.

The difference dog is in the persons knowledge of their sexuality.

If the town librarian (female) was to hit on your daughter and the local garage mechanic (male), dont you think that your daughter would be able to fend off both advances equally? There really is no difference. You teach them to respect themself and then let them choose what they want to experience.

You're still not getting it. These people may be taking advantage of the teen-20 yr old's naivete. It's not a matter of "eh, they're legally an adult now." Pat yourself on the back for stepping back and letting your kid make all hizzer own decisions, but you're actually doing your kid a disservice for not imparting your worldly wisdom when some adult is making advances on them.

And dog, that's what I said. You give them advice. It seemed you wanted to take it further. All you can do for anyone over 18 is give them your advice. Calmly, intelligently and with kindness. If you do it otherwise, they won't listen and it defeats the purpose. IMO.
