My son Tim and Kevin were goods friends at Benedictine High School. Kevin was a high achiever with lofty ambitions. This is not a street punk kid. He is a great kid that comes from great stock and his death is a tragedy. I feel so bad for Kevins's mother and father who are wonderful people. This whole thing makes me very angry. Chuck and Mary, we love you. We pary for you. We will see you soon. Kevin, you are a man of Benedictine. GOD BE WITH YOU!

this is a typical example of how cops like to play god, because they think they were told somewhere down the line, that they hold all the power of the universe. I’m sorry but in Oxford Ohio, a cop doesn't need anything more than a billy-stick, when going to stop a bar fight. I am the cousin, of kevin's best friend's girlfriend, and when I heard about this, I just couldn't believe it. most cops are on this power trip, where they feel they can do anything to the public, because how many people are going to talk back to a cop?? well, I guess we can all see what happens when you try talking and reasoning with a person wearing a badge. I live in the burbs of chicago, and I am amazed every time I see a cop in action. even if it is for a speeding ticket, or rolling through a stop sign in a suburban neighborhood. they act like robo-cops, and treat you like you have just executed a poor family from Guam. these are the types of cops they should put into he inner city, to deal with real problems. cops love their power, and like to throw it in everyone’s face. yes, criminals deserve it, but slightly intoxicated boys in their 20's are surely not criminals, based on that criteria alone. I was not a direct friend of Kevin or anyone in this family, but I will wish every day, that they are well, and ok, and coping with all that has been sent their way. I will also be hoping that this cop pulls out the taser on the wrong person next time, and gets it shoved up his own ass, and electrocutes the shit our of his own colon. prayers, thoughts, hopes, luck, and happiness are all wished to the pikura family. and that’s from people across the world. hang in their guys, because you will get through this and prevail.

Very sad on many levels. Sad for his family and sad for the officer who was doing his job. It is a senseless death, but not the fault of the police officer.
I am a MU alumni but also work in Oxford. Many of the late night crowd drink too much and are disorderly. A few weeks ago a drunk person was arrested trying to break a window of a patients room at the hospital. Excessive alcohol consumption is a big problem on all campuses. When a police officer tells you to stop, bottom line, you stop. The tape of the occurence clearly shows Kevin being warned 3 times to stand back. He continued to come at the officer. If he had not been trying to intervene with his friend's arrest, he would not have been tased. Had he been in his sober state of mind, he would have listened to the police offer. They were being escorted from the bar for disorderly conduct. Prayers to both families. |

The orginal argument for Tasers, was that they were a safer last ditch option before officers had to resort to using deadly force with a gun.
Now they are simply being used in lieu of any physical contact with the suspect (tackling, hold, cuffing) or to "teach a suspect a lesson". Like we've seen with other taserings, this guy got hit multiple times. It's electrocution, not a toy -- they handle the taser like a video game controller. |

We are all going to miss our sweet friend.
He was not violent and for those previous commentors, if you had watched the original news cast from Cinci, you would have seen a witness comment on how Kevin wasn't posing any threat to this officer. We all have seen plenty of times where an officer over did it. I am not chosing sides but don't forget, the police are not educated on the electrophysiology of the human body, these things (tasers) are dangerous. My family had a Police officer, and he protected but was calm and dignified in his behavior. Before you judge our friend, know the story and let the investigation continue. I feel sorry for everyone involved. |

1 I didn't know Kevin, I just heard about this store today on the news. I'm thoroughly disgusted. I've lived in Ohio most of my life, except for a couple of years in California and I can say that I don't recall a single person talking about the police there. People are always very negative about Ohio police and with good reason!! I've met a few and all are arrogant jerks. I am happy to be moving back to Cali in 2 months. At least I won't have to worry about the police killing any of my 3 children. I found out one of my friends from high school had married an Ohio police officer and as we were talking, she was saying that she really wanted to have another child, and her police officer husband told her that he would think about it only when she had lost the baby weight from the first one (and she seriously looks really good)!!!! If that were my husband, I'd be handing the divorce papers over! I hope the family sues for everything that they can and I hope the officer is charged, tried, found guilty and thrown into prison. Let the inmates have fun with him. What is it with the police thinking they are gods? Today the officers who shot an unarmed man 50 times in NY were acquitted. It's truly horrifying. I feel badly for Kevin's family, I can't imagine their grief for something so devastating. |

Hi blood alcohol could not have been 4.0!!! It is 0.08 that is legally intoxicated. Perhaps his was 0.04 (which is still below the illegal limit. It doesn't matter if he was intoxicated or not. Bottom line is that the cop was way out of line. Kevin probably wasn't as intimidated by the cop since his father was one. He probably wasn't thinking that this guy was going to haul off an taser him!

Hello florida doc, do you actually know how to spell??? Kevin's BAC was not that high. And yes, I do know what it was but that is none of your business. You appear to have made up you mind before you know your facts.(That would be the correct use of the word 'your'- next time try you're.) Now since you're so bright, tell me what 50,000 volts of electrical current will do to the heart of a human.(Per the Taser company: The AIR TASER® Weapon generates 10-15 pulses per second. Each pulse is approximately .4 Joule. Calculated by 0.5 * C * V ** 2 or 0.5.*.00000022 F * 2000 V ** 2 =.4 Joule. AT 15 pulses per second and.4 Joules per pulse, 6 Joules per second is the maximum delivered energy per second.)
Now combine that with respiratory depression of alcohol and add a probable tachycardia from being upset with the police and what do you get?? I also noticed that he was being tasered for 10 continuous seconds and a few seconds later, noticed another 5 seconds. I was informed that the tasers only dispense 5 seconds of electrical activity. Also per taser company "The EMD power surge instantly disrupts the central nervous system and results in the subject falling to the ground in spasms of involuntary muscular convulsions." Did they teach you all that at your medical school because they did at mine. |

From one to another. How do you have any idea what Kevin's BAL was? Being that you live in Florida. First of all, I knew Kevin and he was a very fit person. The reason he died was due to a direct shock to the heart. Maybe this doesn't register to a medical student. Second of all, you're posting erroneous information that is protected by HIPPA standards. Third, you are probably some fucking medical student poser who obviously does not know your ass from a hole in the ground. If you're an attending M.D. you should have your ass kicked for posting classified information. If I find out who you are, I will personally do it myself.

I can not believe you actually wrote this. found out one of my friends from high school had married an Ohio police officer and as we were talking, she was saying that she really wanted to have another child, and her police officer husband told her that he would think about it only when she had lost the baby weight from the first one (and she seriously looks really good)!!!! If that were my husband, I'd be handing the divorce papers over! I think you just like to hear your self talk. |

Thank you for your support Chicago doc (from the Ohio doc). I agree. I bet you it was a med student. Just goes to show that you can't teach common sense.
Once again, our sympathy to the family.

Nope, he has a car at his disposal. He chooses to bike. It actually takes an extra qualification to ride a bike, I'm pretty sure. Nice try. |

So sorry what a bad thing!!! My prayers are with this Young man!
