jk q - you have no idea the situation. this attack by the opd was drastically unnecessary. it wasn't a bar fight, it was a scuffle. something that a police officer should be trained to handle without fatal force. tasers have been cited in hundreds of deaths over the past years - and none of kevins behavior warranted this reaction.
he is still alive, and is being watch for the next 24 hrs with little hope. i hope you reconsider your comments because i would hate for someone you know and care about to ever have experience such police brutality. |

I agree with alumni and friend. This was unnecessary and unfortunate. I'm very close to his family and this is the worst tragedy that could ever happen to any family. His family are police officer's and we can only imagine the pain their going thru right now. Using a taser was not called for in this situation. That police officer should be held accountable besides being fired. He doesn't deserve to wear a badge. Why would you taser someone right in the heart? If not to kill someone.

Alumni and friend,
Were you actually there? I was certainly not but it has been reported that Kevin attempted to stop police from arresting Steve. And that he was warned to cease which apparently Steve did finally do. I'm not taking sides here but was curious if you had any input. |

i was there.. and while he was warned he made no visible threat to the officer. i was simply looking on from across the street.. but as a college student myself i have seen worse situations handled with mere physical force and no use of a taser. kevin approached the officer.. but he did not attempt to physically harm him, the officer was not in threat of physical violence. in my opinion, watching the situation from 30 feet away the taser was unecessary and an act of sheer police brutality. my prayers are with his family..

The Oxford police are violent and they often taunt the Miami students. I have seen this on more than one occasion. Once when someone was calling the police on their violence they threatened to rape the student. This is a department that too often views the student body as rich kids of privledge and and often to resent them. This department in no way belongs being armed with tasers or anything else. The University administration has long been aware of this and should have taken action long ago. The same lack of attention has turned a blind eye to the ancient rotting housing students pay a fortune to live in...housing that is waiting to burn down. When kids burned to death the administrations response was the students needed to be more aware when drinking. Shame on them for letting the town abuse their students be it with police violence or leaving them to the ready to burn timber housing. Remove the tasers from all police now!! If the university administration demanded a better tone or care to their students you can bet it would turn on a dime. So sorry for this young man and his family. My prayers are with them

Class warfare...bureaucrats who despise those they are to serve and protect, but instead with a little power added to their resentment, abuse that power. Disgusting

I heard from close family members Kevin's father, retired Chief of police, had a heart attack when receiving the news about Kevin.

Mrs. Piskura.... Kevin's mom is a teacher at the school i teacher at. We are very close and when i heard the news i was devastated. Kevin used to come to school to visit his mom every time he came home. Kevin was one of the nicest and sweetest kids although he was trying to stop steve from getting arrested all he was trying to do was stop one of his friends from getting hurt. Kevin doesn't deserve his kind of pain and neither does the family. And Yes Mr. Piskura did have a heart attack after he heard the news about his son.. how would you feel if you heard your son was going to die? Please keep them in your prayers

they thought his father had a heart attack, it ended up being a panic attack.
As of now they are running more tests on Kevin to see if there has been any improvement in his brain activity. keep praying, miracles do happen. |

kevin deserves to live. ive know him my whole life and his mom is the greatest teacher ever. hopefully he can recover. prayers to the piskura family.

Sounds like the typical overreaction from Barney Fife, except real people can die from. Attempted murder charges or wrongful death charges are in order. Why have cops when you can train a robot to act without thought! Most cops should not be allowed to carry even a batton. |

My prayers are with Kevin and his family. Miracles do happen.I also want to pray for the Oxford police.Their souls are the ones that will have a hard time being fogiven. For the last 8 years I have had students at Miami. The treatment of these students has continued to worsen over the years. What happened to police being there to Help you?? My daughter lived in a house that a fire was set on the porch, It took forever for the police to show up, and they never followed up on this . But how quick they are to use a deadly weapon in a situation that was not life threatening for them or anyone around!! I know this firsthand.I agree with the Alum from Naples...
Maybe the University President should step up for the well being of the students.WAKE UP!!!!! |

Prayers and love to Kevin and his Family. Deep down Kevin is still fighting.

I've heard from people that were there that the cop who tasered kevin was a big guy, well over 200lbs. He didn't need to do this.

The comments below were taken from a statement released by Kevin's family today. It is my suggestion that we heed their wishes - Pray for Kevin and do not rush to judgement until an independent investigation is completed.
OXFORD -- The family of Kevin Piskura – a Miami University graduate who remains in critical condition after being Tased by police outside an Oxford bar – asked the community Tuesday to withhold judgment until an investigation has been completed. It was the first time the family has released a statement since the 24-year-old Chicagoan was hospitalized after the weekend incident at Brick Street restaurant and bar on High Street. ..... “We are confident that an independent review of the incident is taking place and we are imploring everyone to wait with us for the results of that investigation and not rush to judgment regarding the facts surrounding Kevin’s injuries,” the family said in a prepared statement. They also thanked those who have been supportive and asked for “your continued prayers for Kevin, our family, his friends and everyone involved in this unfortunate event.” (Taken from www.enquirer.com , Cincinnati's local paper at 7pm Tuesday evening.) |
