Yep, about four times I took LTG McCaffrey's secretary from Long Binh to Saigon on Saturday mornings so she could get her hair done! And after lunch I would fly her back.
I also flew Ambassador Bunkers 19 y/o daughter a few times to go see her GI boyfriend. He was a SP/4 and attached to the USO. Probably another Al Gore type that was privileged!
Oh, my father was a colonel and the S3 of 1st Avn Bde and I did my fair share of MACV (Green Beret) missions and combat assaults. Spent the night underground on the Cambodian border with the MACV at Song Be not far from An Loc. They actually had it pretty good underground and we had free drinks for the crew!

So, we aren't supposed to discuss the past when it pertains to Bush's mistakes but it's okay to do it with President Obama, huh?
That Republicant duplicity is legendary.
How many books, articles and blogs are dedicated to George W. Bush making verbal blunders?
Some of my favorites:
"We spent a lot of time talking about Africa, as we should. Africa is a nation that suffers from incredible disease."
--Yes, he was our President at the time; in Gothenburg, Sweden, June 14, 2001
"I promise you I will listen to what has been said here, even though I wasn't here." --at the President's Economic Forum in Waco, Texas, Aug. 13, 2002
"You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test." -Townsend, Tenn., Feb. 21, 2001
"I am here to make an announcement that this Thursday, ticket counters and airplanes will fly out of Ronald Reagan Airport." --Washington, D.C., Oct. 3, 2001
"Tribal sovereignty means that; it's sovereign. I mean, you're a -- you've been given sovereignty, and you're viewed as a sovereign entity. And therefore the relationship between the federal government and tribes is one between sovereign entities." --Washington, D.C., Aug. 6, 2004
"You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror." --interview with CBS News' Katie Couric, Sept. 6, 2006
"The same folks that are bombing innocent people in Iraq were the ones who attacked us in America on September the 11th." --Washington, D.C., July 12, 2007
"I'm the commander -- see, I don't need to explain -- I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being president." --as quoted in Bob Woodward's Bush at War
"Do you have blacks, too?" --to Brazilian President Fernando Cardoso, Washington, D.C., Nov. 8, 2001
"I would say the best moment of all was when I caught a 7.5 pound largemouth bass in my lake." --on his best moment in office, interview with the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, May 7, 2006
"They misunderestimated me." --Bentonville, Ark., Nov. 6, 2000
"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda." --Greece, N.Y., May 24, 2005
"People say, how can I help on this war against terror? How can I fight evil? You can do so by mentoring a child; by going into a shut-in's house and say I love you." --Washington, D.C., Sept. 19, 2002
"You work three jobs?... Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that." --to a divorced mother of three, Omaha, Nebraska, Feb. 4, 2005
But of all of them, and there are many, many more, this is my all time favorite (no, it is not the Mission Accomplished speech)
"I'll be long gone before some smart person ever figures out what happened inside this Oval Office." --Washington, D.C., May 12, 2008
Spectacular collection.

Bush was actually so bad at speaking that he would become accidentally honest at times... and those are the rarest of gems. Treasures.

Dubbya was somewhere between Rodney Dangerfield and Andy Kaufman.

If he wasn't so damn dangerous in so many ways, I would want him for 5 terms.

I called that special something he had... "reckless precision".

HERE'S SOMETHING INTERESTING. It's an opinion piece in our local newspaper, The Ottawa Citizen, by columnist MOHAMAD ADAM . Anyhoo, he gives us excerpts of philosopher Harry Frankfurt's writings (from his book) on, believe it or not, "bullshit", that very word symbolizing the Birther and Tea party movements, though Frankfurter did not have them in mind. But all of that he writes describes these looney tooneys so well, I couldn't not share it with one and all. Herewith a sample :

"In his book, Frankfurt tries to unravel the deeper, philosophical meaning of bullshit. Commonly understood to mean nonsense, or perhaps humbug, Frankfurt believes bullshit and its purveyors (you guessed it, birthers and T.P.-my note) can be much more insidious because (and here it comes - my note) they have no regard for the truth. He postulates that for the bullshitter, unlike a liar, the truth is irrelevant. It doesn't matter to the bullshitter whether what he is saying is the truth. What is important is that it serves its purpose. The liar, however, is well aware of the truth but chooses to disregard it in order to tell the lie".

Well, never in a million years could I have so aptly described the GB-KFCs, LRSs, Franks, American Ladies, Obstetriks (sic), Rogues, etc of Topix fame. Frankfurt would be mesmerized in that, in one fell swoop, birthers and tea partyers have managed to combine bullhsitters and liars. Not an easy feat, but these LOSERS have somehow succeeded.

When I was leaving Vietnam I was at the 90th Replacement Battalion, Long Bin, when I ran into a fellow classmate. He was wearing a CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) on his uniform which is not common for an aviator so I asked him about it.
He was shot down in a landing zone and it was so hot they could only get the wounded out. The platoon leader had been wounded and evacuated so he became the only officer at the LZ and therefore became the acting platoon leader of an infantry unit and he had to spend the night with them.
He also was awarded the Silver Star for recovering one M60D machine gun and several thousands of rounds of badly need ammo. His aircraft had crashed on it's left side so he, and his crew chief, had to stand on the top to get in and out of all the while being shot at!!!
Yep, nothing like being in a clear area standing on something surrounded by bad guys.
The D-model M60 machine gun was the aviation version. Instead of a butt-stock it had spade-grips and a butterfly trigger. It still had a bi-pod just in case you got shot down and had to use it on the ground.
That was something you really didn't want to know that someone thought you might need the bi-pod!!!

I am not a big country fan but I know who Brad Paisley is. I saw Dolly Pardon's show and even bumped shoulders with Merle Haggard while I was leaving, and he was entering, a men's room at a truck stop. A few seconds after we bumped shoulders I recognized him but there is no way I was going to bug him in a men's room.

Merl used to, and may still, ride in a tour bus with "Santa Fe" railroad logo on it. His father used to work for Santa Fe and got permission to use their logo on his buses.
I saw his bus at a few more truck stops but I try not to bother them as they work hard and they rest up while traveling between gigs.
