Obama Offers to Cut Social Security, Medicare and Popular Programs (Again)/ Move fulfills progressive predictions that deficit fear-mongering will pave the way for inevitable 'grand bargain'/ March 4, 2013 / http://tinyurl.com/bsccyhm
According to new reports, President Obama is once again offering cuts to popular social programs such as Medicare and Social Security as a bargaining chip in the ongoing sequester debate.
Such a move by the president is one that many progressives foresaw and warned against, saying that deficit fear-mongering would only pave the way for an inevitable "grand bargain."
According to White House senior economic official Gene Sperling, Obama "reached out" to lawmakers from both parties on Saturday floating a proposition to cut spending in order to appease Republican demands and the 'deficit scolds' who claim, despite evidence to the contrary, that cutting such programs is somehow fiscally responsible.

The reality behind Obama and Bush’s ‘spending binge’
05/25/2012 / http://tinyurl.com/bo57v8d
There’s a confused and confusing debate going on over whether President Obama has presided over a “spending binge,” as Republicans claim, or whether, under Obama,“federal spending is rising at the slowest pace since Dwight Eisenhower brought the Korean War to an end in the 1950s.”
The key is fiscal year 2009 -- and who you blame for it. By any measure, spending popped that year. If you’re looking at raw dollars, it rose by $535 billion. And “the 2009 fiscal year,” writes Market Watch’s Rex Nutting,“which Republicans count as part of Obama’s legacy, began four months before Obama moved into the White House.”
That’s true: The federal fiscal year stretches, somewhat weirdly, from October to September. So fiscal year 2009 began in October 2008.

It’s enough to make even the most ardent Obama cynic scratch his head in confusion.
Amidst all the cries of Barack Obama being the most prolific big government spender the nation has ever suffered, Marketwatch is reporting that our president has actually been tighter with a buck than any United States president since Dwight D. Eisenhower.
In fiscal 2010 (the first Obama budget) spending fell 1.8% to $3.46 trillion. In fiscal 2011, spending rose 4.3% to $3.60 trillion. In fiscal 2012, spending is set to rise 0.7% to $3.63 trillion, according to the Congressional Budget Office’s estimate of the budget that was agreed to last August. Finally in fiscal 2013 — the final budget of Obama’s term — spending is scheduled to fall 1.3% to $3.58 trillion. Read the CBO’s latest budget outlook.

GOP “Death Tax” Fraud Back from the Grave
April 2, 2009 / http://tinyurl.com/b87wedm
In 2001, President Bush waged a largely successful campaign to curb the estate tax. But eight years after denouncing that scourge of the ultra-rich, Republicans have resurrected their "death tax" talking point, complete with its repeatedly debunked claims about the impact of estate levies on small businesses and family farms. Even as they decry the deficit spending the Bush recession has required, Congressional Republicans aided and abetted by some Democrats are pushing an estate tax windfall for the wealthiest Americans that within a decade could drain up to $1 trillion from the U.S. Treasury.
The battle lines have been joined over the expiration of the 2001 Bush tax cuts, which are due to expire next year. Included in that bonanza for the rich was the gradual reduction and temporary elimination of the estate tax. As the Washington Post noted, under President Obama budget, 99.76% of estates would pay no taxes whatsoever:

If sulfur dioxide was so bad, they why have not ten of thousands of people who lived near paper mills and petroleum refineries die off?!? By the way, 90% of sulfur dioxide is made by nature mostly from volcanic activity and wild fires. And lightning make most of the oxides of nitrogen. Soooo, let's cap off all the volcanoes and blow up thunderstorms with nukes!!!

I was flying my Huey Lime Lima over triple canopy jungle in Vietnam and my wingman was a few hundred yards back and to my right when he called out he hit something. We got to our next stop and inspected the aircraft. It was a fruit bat which are about the size of a duck.
I guess I had spooked them and as I passed they took odd and one went into my wingman. He had got stuck in the swash plate and ground up. YUCK!!!
Oh, a swash plate is where the flight controls go from straight up and down to rotating with the rotorhead. Basically a big ball bearing with flight control attachments.

You wrote : "What about the Irish? Or the Chinese? They practically built America on waitress wages."
Funny you should think that. At least they got waitress wages. The blacks did a whole lot more than "practically built America", they did it for NO wages.
Again, the question. We both have the same intelligence, the same schooling, the same qualifications. I am white, you are black. Tell me frankly, who has the better chance of success?
As to how to "fix it", I have no idea, but as I said, how about treating everyone the same way? And pursuing affirmative action, you gotta let them get a foot in the door to offset those centuries of unfairness. Some money, yes but not too much, it doesn't work.
I just see a problem, is all. It won't go away by itself and you ask me what I would do while so-called experts and consultants have fooled around and toyed with the problem for so long, and paid millions to do it. And you ask me what should be done? I don't rightly know. But let's start you and me treating minorities , blacks included, with fairness and dignity.
Agreed. I believe everyone is owed the respect they earn.

You make fine points. However, you admit nothing reasonable can be done as far as reparations. That is what I was getting at. Yes, statistically whites have a few advantages over blacks in the job market. But that is a whole picture thing. A young man who applies himself and has ambition will be successful regardless of color.

The younger generations are less and less racist. I think this problem will either go away overnight or regress over 50 years.

What I mean by overnight is that when confronted with an actual enemy... internal turmoil seems trivial.

For example, September 12th 2001 there were no blacks or hispanics or liberals or whites or republicans... we were all just Americans.

It felt like that for almost a month.

All smoke and mirrors. FACT: Bush FY2009 Budget was submitted in Feb. 2008 at only $2.7T. By the time Speaker San Fran Nan Pelosi rewrote it and OBAMA signed it into law it had ballooned to $3.7 TRILLION. And they have been spending at the $3.7T rate every year since except for FY2013 because of Sequester!!!
