If you're going to talk about slavery, include all races that have been used as slaves. Not just one group. Typical S stirrer.
So, you believe that other races that have endured slavery, or other races that were slave owners, and there were plenty, justify your 200 years of slavery plus 100 years of discrimination? I don't give a hoot who practiced or practices it today or who were or are the slaves, IT IS WRONG, IT IS AN ABUSE OF HUMAN BEINGS, an affront to humanity. I'm well aware that slavery is still practiced today in many lands, and it is unbearable, unacceptable and darn it, why aren't we, the supposedly powerful nations, doing something about it?

I know about the (Mi)'Raj - you don't. Many black Africans who make the pilgrimage to Mecca are never seen again, particularly young men and women. They are often abducted, plain and simple, by rich Arab potentates. We know about this. Why aren't we acting? Petrol? Hmmmm. We are hypocrites.

I put 110K on my 2005 Honda CR-V then gave it to my granddaughter when I bought my 2012 CR-V. Other than an alignment problem early on, no problem.
My 2005 was a British built car and it seems that the Japanese built ones did not have the alignment problem. It cost me $250 to fix plus a set to tires whose life was cut in half. That happened at $20k miles and it has gone another 90k with normal tire wear. My last set of tires went 75k and I think my granddaughter has about 30k on the last set. Still has the original brakes.
I've had plenty of Hondas. Best car ever. Nothing except Toyota even comes close. Had on in West Africa, Honda coupe, drove it 2 yrs in Belgium, 2 years on unbelievable roads, in all conditions, had more than 150,000 miles on it, sold it to a local and off he drove with it into the interior. Have one now, it's a sweetheart.

Why so on the defensive? Who blamed you? You? But that doesn't mean that the present-day Afro-American does not feel the age-old apartheid/discrimination of his forebears, and don't tell me it doesn't still exist in the minds of a hell of a lot of white people. And again, in all fairness to Americans, that attitude is prevalent world-wide, with, not necessarily in that order, anti woman, anti black, anti Jew, anti Arab , anti Hindu, anti-Pakistani etc. Again, still, in all fairness, blacks are probably treated not as poorly in the U.S. as in Europe, for example.

Stop feeling guilty, we know you weren't around then, though 1948, the 1960s, they ain't that far back.

I don't think blacks should have as many privileges as whites. I just think they should be treated equally. Are they? As I asked scrutiny, here we are , you and me. We have both identical qualifications, I'm white, you're black. Guess who has the best chance of success?

No, racial harassment is rampant in schools. Not so much white-on-black but black-on-white because the school officials do not want to punish blacks proportional top whites.
That's right, for every black kid that is punished they MUST punish a white kid. Using this same logic, for every back person convicted of murder they must convict SIX white person of murder as there are six times as many white people as there are blacks.
I know it disturbs you that blacks are FIFTEEN TIMES more likely to commit murder than white are but we should not convict them at that same rate!!!
Poopo Logic
Poopo and Wojo rednecks decided that they weren't going anywhere in life and thought they should go to college to get ahead. The first went in to see the counselor, who told him to take math, history, and logic.
"What's logic?" Poopo asked.
The professor answered, "Let me give you an example. Do you own a weed eater?"
"I sure do."
"Then I can assume, using logic, that you have a yard," replied the professor.
"That's real good!" said Poopo.
The professor continued, "Logic will also tell me that since you have a yard, you also own a house."
Impressed, the Poopo said, "Amazing!"
"And since you own a house, logic dictates that you have a wife."
"That's Betty Mae! This is incredible!" The Poopo was catching on.
"Finally, since you have a wife, logically I can assume that you are heterosexual," said the professor.
"You're absolutely right! Why that's the most fascinatin' thing I ever heard! I cain't wait to take that logic class!"
Poopo, proud of the new world opening up to him, walked back into the hallway where his friend was still waiting.
"So what classes are ya takin'?" asked Wojo.
"Math, history, and logic!" replied Poopo.
"What in tarnation is logic?" asked Wojo.
"Let me give you an example. Do ya own a weed eater?" asked Poopo.
"No," Wojo replied.
To which Poopo replied, "You're queer, ain't ya?"

Possibly, but the republicans are going to need someone pretty huge to beat her. Jeb won't get it done. There are few people that could stand against her. Hillary is smart, ambitious and willing to do anything it takes. That is a dangerous combination.

No, but the slavery thing has been passed on upon generation and generation. The complexes brought about by slavery are not dead, and hey, even today's blacks were there when Jackie Robinson arrived on the premises, when the heroine Rosa Parks was arrested for acting like a normal human being, when, very recently, look at the Masters, blacks AND Jews were barred from such establishments. The Emancipation Declaration did not free the slaves per se, it booted them out of their homes (the slave owners' homes, to be more precise) and our of the meagre food they were given.
What to do? How should I know? How do you repair close to 300 years of servitude? Maybe affirmative action is a step forward, but then, even that is contested. I will pose the question : You're black, let's say, I'm white. Okay? Truth now, and except for professional sports, who has the best chance in life?
I would say it is a push. Based on the information provided.

Some kid born into being raised in a ghetto? Or a suburban childhood with parents that can make a genuine effort to see you educated?

If you are in favor of reparations you should probably have some idea of how to make something at least a little closer to right.

What do they deserve?

Money? Or would that be insulting? And how much? Who pays the bill?
Preferential treatment in the job market?
40 acres and a mule?
Eat free at red lobster on Wednesdays?

Nothing works.

What about the Irish? Or the Chinese? They practically built America on waitress wages.

If you can find an Indian... what about him?

Report from Reno. Robert L. "Hoot" Gibson is out of the race. It was originally thought that a backfire and blown out the induction system but it now looks to be the other way around.
Oh, Hoot is a retired Navy Captain (O-6) and former Space Shuttle pilot so he is a real best of the best.

http://vimeo.com/75535950

Anyway, my flight school classmate has been going to the Reno air races for over twenty years and is a race marshal. He lost his wings some twenty years ago when he pranged on in and became crippled and gets around in a wheel chair.
Also, he was from Selma, AL and he is a racist. He does not like black people. Other than that, he is a nice guy.

I agree with virtually everything you say. Keep up the comments. Travel while you and your girlfriend have your health.
Being a low level pilot you see a lot more than you do from 30,000 feet in an airliner. You see the farmers planting their crops and in the end the harvest. I am not a farmer but they are almost 100% dependent on Mother Nature. Not enough rain, to much rain, rain at the wrong time and rain is just one factor.

The poem Low Flight was written as a parody to High Flight.

LOW FLIGHT
Oh, I've slipped the surly bonds of earth
And hovered out of ground effect on semi-rigid blades;
Earthward I've auto'ed and met the rising brush of non-paved terrain
And done a thousand things you would never care to
Skidded and dropped and flared
Low in the heat soaked roar.
Confined there, I've chased the earthbound traffic
And lost the race to insignificant headwinds;
Forward and up a little in ground effect
I've topped the General's hedge with drooping turns
Where never Skyhawk [Navy A-4] or even Phantom [F-4] flew.
Shaking and pulling collective,
I've lumbered The low untresspassed halls of victor airways [low altitude airways][high altitude airways start at 18,000 feet],
Put out my hand and touched a tree.

Other versions of Low Flight.

Alternate versions[edit source]

Another version, dedicated to those who fly close air support for ground forces - REALLY close air, the following is from the prospective of flying 50 feet AGL at 400 KIAS (knots indicated airspeed).

LOW FLIGHT
Oh, I've slipped the swirling clouds of dust
A few feet from the dirt.
I have flown my plane low enough
To make my bottom hurt.
I've raced over desert, hills, through valleys,
And mountain passes too.
Frolicked in the trees
Where only gray squirrels flew.

Chasing cows along the way,
Disturbing ram and ewe.
I've done a hundred other things
You damned well shouldn't do.
I have smacked the tiny sparrow,
Bluebird, robin, and the rest.
Dragged vorticies through branches
Throwing eggs out of their nests.

I've hurled through total darkness
Just as blind as I could be,
And spent the night in terror
Of things I could not see.
I've turned my eyes to heaven
Sweating bullets through the flight,
Reached out my hand and pressed-to-test
óthe Master Caution light.

C-130 Version Low Flight

Oh, I have slipped through
swirling clouds of dust,
A few feet from the dirt,
I've flown the C-130 low enough,
To make my bottom hurt.

I've flown in the desert, hills and valleys,
Mountains too,
Frolicked in the trees,
Where only flying squirrels flew.

Chased the frightened cows along,
Disturbed the ram and ewe,
And done a hundred other things
That you'd not care to do.

I've smacked the tiny sparrow,
Bluebird, robin, all the rest,
I've ingested baby eagles,
Simply sucked them from their nest.

I've streaked through total darkness,
Just the other guys and me,
And spent the night in terror of
Things I could not see.

I turned my eyes to heaven,
As I sweated through the flight,
Put out my hand and touched,
The Fire Warning Light.

"High Flight"
by John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward Iíve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,ó and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of ó wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hovíring there,
Iíve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
Iíve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew ó
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
- Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
