I want you to watch this video. No so much for the slide show, which you will enjoy, but mainly for the music.
You have to listen very closely and carefully and I want you to tell me what instruments you hear.
It's a Chopin Nocturne,... Opus 9 No. 1 in B flat minor to be specific.
It was written for piano, but I think it's a marimba that I am hearing, but I am not quite sure.
It's an 8 minute video, but the piece is played twice, fyi.
www.youtube.com/watch...
I would have to agree with marimba. But I may not have come to that conclusion if you didn't suggest it. I probably would have said xylophone.

Definitely not a piano.

I think it is some type of a harp accompanying.

Either way... way weird for the subject matter in the video.

Good luck finding your link among that 0.0125% of fossilized vertebrates. I'd say that is GAME OVER. Oh, a monkey skull is just that, a monkey skull and nothing more. Please insert coin to try again. LMAO! And your dumbazz thought I was kidding when I asked if you were a land species or a water species. It is clear now, you belong to the primate group. Hey, can you grind an organ? HEE HEE HEE

Wojar,
I did say almost perfect pitch.
A more precise term might be relative pitch, where there is a beginning reference point, such as is the case with me.

Interesting.
My oldest son is a gifted guitar player.(So I am told.)
They credited his ability at such a young age to "perfect pitch".
I never really understood what that was. But man can he tune my guitars. lol.
I thought it was the ability to precisely reconstruct what he had heard.
I guess I was way off.
Thanks.
Really bizarre is that I once read that "absolute pitch" was a rare dominant trait. I think I read it in the NY Times, about 30 - 40 years ago. Totally false.

Amazing how times change, except if you're talking about "Church doctrine" which can never change, as it's "infallible".

Sure they do.

But when most discuss human evolution the discussion generally begins after the mammalian domination of Earth. About 60 million years ago.

Well after dinosaurs.(who were also vertebrates)

You are throwing fish around. Yes, that is where vertebrates enter the arena... but it predates the existence of land creatures by millions and millions of years.

There are outstanding documentaries that cover the long term evolution of life on Earth. And the changes to Earth that pushed it along.

Such as....

That is a very general look at life. It deals more with the evolution of Earth itself. But it does clarify the distinct explosions and extinctions of life and the reasons behind them.

Worth the watch no matter what you think personally.

I am not a biologist. I have the Universe to worry about. It keeps me busy enough.

If you wanted to look at evolution alone, I am sure you could find informational documentaries exclusively about life on Earth with little effort.

That's the whole point. Some people who are considered "perfect pitch" are actually remarkable "relative pitch" and the neurology isn't that cut and dry. The dividing line is somewhat arbitrary as it is not based on fNMR or any real gauge.

I'm not perfectly perfect pitch, but I'm close. And I used to play Chopin very well.(Would not for radial tunnel syndrome, I'd be playing today.)

There is a difference between relative and absolute. But "absolute" turns out not to be so absolute. "Neurology is great".

Nothing to laugh about there.

I had a kid in our program who was an autistic savant.

He told me that he saw numbers as geometric shapes. Sounded ridiculous to me until he picked up a pencil and drew the number 67 as he saw it.

Looked like a square with what I can only describe as a pinwheel on each corner. As he spun the wheels, the values would change.

To see math IN shapes and lines and not defining shapes and lines was amazing.

Yes, I know.

I was trying to express that the particular documentary that I linked was more about the planet Earth with life as one of the things going on.

It was not the primary subject matter. But it gives you a solid foundation of the evolution of life to build on.

That is a remarkable case. There is neurological basis for some people seeing colors paired with certain tones. In fact that is the basis for the term, "blue note".

Some people actually can associate colors with tones, and their brains have the wiring to do so.

Strange, as Modigliani , Picasso, Brach, borrowed from Africa for their art, so did our best musicians, and that marimba sound transports me back to the black continent. I heard Bach performed on a xylophone in Abidjan a long while back. Same sounds you've lent us, loose, or close. Also heard it, but more in Latin-American mode in Brazil at Iguazu, a concert at the foot of the famous falls, WOW, mind bender. I don't know music as well as you and wojar and Srutiny, but as the old saying goes, I know what I like.

Rather, it's you who has no place in the discussion. You don't see me discussing a subject I know very little about. Why do you? I learned in my profession that it was far better to leave the floor to those who know and pose intelligent questions rather than make ignorant statements.

This is turning into a bloodbath, LRS. You're way out of your element here. Just read what Scrutiny and wojar have to expound on the subject and learn if you can.
