What is “lobbying”?
Historically, it is the process of petitioning the government to look at a perceived injustice or to intervene in special causes.
How should lobbying be defined today? That, argue critics, is up for grabs.
Dating back to the Magna Carta written in 1215, the right "by the people" to petition government was a principle reaffirmed in 1776 in the Declaration of Independence and later in the Bill of Rights.
Petitioning to hear individual grievances was a treasured right in the young American democracy, which gave most citizens a potential active role in how they were governed.
Yet, the sense that those early Americans once had - of having a direct voice in local or national politics - is now arguably a quaint thing of the past.

Top Ten Congressional Lobbying Scandals in US History
http://blog.oup.com/2006/03/congressional_l/ / http://tinyurl.com/6xdkuf

1. 1857, the New York Times published an expose of lobbying for the Pacific Railroad bill, charging that lobbyists had shaped a bill in order to pillage federal lands. The House opened an investigation that led four representatives to resign (the House also expelled from its galleries the Times reporter who broke the story).

2. 1872, the New York Sun exposed the Credit Mobilier scandal, where a railroad lobbyist provided stock to members of Congress to make them more likely to increase appropriations for transcontinental railroad construction. Both the Senate and House investigated the charges, which ruined the careers of two vice presidents, a Speaker, and other members of both bodies.

3. 1906, Cosmopolitan magazine publishes David Graham Phillips’ series of muckraking exposes on the “Treason of the Senate,” in which he accused prominent senators of representing special interests rather than the public interest. The series contributes to political pressure that results in the Seventeenth Amendment requiring senators to be elected by the public rather than by state legislatures.

4. 1913, the New York World ran an expose of questionable tactics by a lobbyist for the National Association of Manufacturers seeking to influence tariff rates. One member of the House resigned and the House passed a bill requiring lobbyists to register with Congress. The Senate declined to go along with the reform.
5. 1929, the New York World accused Connecticut Senator Hiram Bingham of bringing a paid agent for the Connecticut Manufacturers’ Association into closed committee meetings on a pending tariff bill. The Senate investigated and censured Bingham (previously prominent as the discoverer of Machu Picchu), who was then defeated for reelection.

6. 1962, a Des Moines Register correspondent reported that Senate Majority Secretary Bobby Baker accepted favors from lobbyists in exchange for providing access to powerful senators. A Senate committee investigated and Baker was later convicted of income tax evasion.

7. 1976, the Washington Post broke the story that the Justice Department was investigating South Korean agent Tongsun Park, who had distributed illegal gifts to members of Congress. Congressional investigation of “Koreagate” ended with the reprimand of three members of the House and the indictment of two others.
http://blog.oup.com/2006/03/congressional_l/

8. 1990, accounts in the Orange County Register, the Mesa [Arizona] Tribune, the Detroit News, the Los Angeles Times, the Arizona Republic, and the Wall Street Journal revealed that five senators met with the head of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board about the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, whose head, Charles H. Keating, Jr. had made substantial contributions to their political campaigns. The Senate Ethics Committee investigated the Keating Five, and reprimanded one of them, California Senator Alan Cranston.

9. 2005, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported a bribery scandal involving lobbyists’ gifts and payments to Representative Randy “Duke” Cunningham that led to his resignation from Congress and criminal conviction./ 10. 2005, Washington Post reporters revealed that Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff was the central figure in a congressional corruption scandal, as Justice Department prosecutors investigated him for fraud and bribery allegations./ http://blog.oup.com/2006/03/congressional_l/

When I asked you if we found fish on Europa what would it mean to you... You replied that it wouldn't change your beliefs one bit.
So, why can you not accept the age of the Earth, which is grounded in hardcore science? It is not theoretical stuff.
Why would you even attempt to debate it without contradictory evidence? Why can't it be like finding life somewhere else? Why can't evolution be to the greater glory of Yahwey?
Wojar can not ever disprove God. Nor can I. As a matter of fact no one can and no one ever will. It is impossible. And I don't just throw that word around. But then we come back to we can't prove Joey Bagadoughnuts didn't create all.
No matter what we discover, no matter how many mysteries of nature we unravel... there will always be room for people to say God did it.
Has science peeled back a bit of the bible? Certainly. But people have simply changed how they interpret those passages.
The Earth is 4.5 Billion years old give or take 70 million years.
The oldest rocks found are 3.8 and 3.9 billion years old. Which figures in just right. We calculate this from several radiometric dating methods. It isn't like we ran a litmus test on a rock near a geologist house an we came up with 4.5 billion years.
Does this destroy God?
No.
We know it because we have credible evidence from experiment that has been reproduced many many times. And there hasn't been a single person to come up with a different valid scientific answer to the question.
That would get you a Nobel Prize and all the funding you would ever need. So, it is not like there isn't motivation.
I believe there could be life on other planets and it would not change any of my beliefs.

I do accept the age of the earth but you cannot prove it is 4.5 Billion, 3 billion, 2, billion, 1 billion, or even Millions.

According to the Bible it is in the thousands. So What.

Even your evolution does not disprove God one way or the other.

Also agnostics and atheists are in the minority with almost 7 Billion believers.

All your facts and figures might be wrong just like the scientist of old who assumed the earth was flat.

Climate skeptics are recycled critics of controls on tobacco and acid rain
We must not be distracted from science's urgent message: we are fuelling dangerous changes in Earth's climate / 19 February 2010 / http://tinyurl.com/yjscy3l
In the weeks before and after the Copenhagen climate change conference last December, the science of climate change came under harsh attack by critics who contend that climate scientists have deliberately suppressed evidence — and that the science itself is severely flawed. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the global group of experts charged with assessing the state of climate science, has been accused of bias.
The global public is disconcerted by these attacks. If experts cannot agree that there is a climate crisis, why should governments spend billions of dollars to address it?
The fact is that the critics — who are few in number but aggressive in their attacks — are deploying tactics that they have honed for more than 25 years. During their long campaign, they have greatly exaggerated scientific disagreements in order to stop action on climate change, with special interests like Exxon Mobil footing the bill.

Think-tanks take oil money and use it to fund climate deniers
Exxon / Mobil cash supported concerted campaign to undermine case for man-made warming / 7 February 2010 / http://tinyurl.com/ydncytq
An orchestrated campaign is being waged against climate change science to undermine public acceptance of man-made global warming, environment experts claimed last night.
The attack against scientists supportive of the idea of man-made climate change has grown in ferocity since the leak of thousands of documents on the subject from the University of East Anglia (UEA) on the eve of the Copenhagen climate summit last December.
Free-market, anti-climate change think-tanks such as the Atlas Economic Research Foundation in the US and the International Policy Network in the UK have received grants totaling hundreds of thousands of pounds from the multinational energy company Exxon / Mobil. Both organizations have funded international seminars pulling together climate change deniers from across the globe.

THOUSANDS in the founder population, yet not one body. Your theory is missing a "LINK"! LMAO! Moronic DAB.
Huh? If you wish to remain willfully ignorant that is your right; it is NOT my problem. You can resolve the problem that your fables are in conflict with the evidence by closing your eyes. Again, that is not my problem.

It is truly curious that anyone would cling to their cherished fable with no evidence in the face of conclusive evidence to the contrary. The population bottleneck evidence DISPROVES the Adam & Eve fable. The molecular evidence previously elaborated clearly establishes an ancestor common to humans and chimpanzees. The DNA tells the story.

The believe that fossils of a specific founder population of thousands from millions of years ago should be expected to be found is naive at best, and I'm being very kind. It is certainly not the belief of anyone with any credibility in the sciences.

The vast majority of living things die without leaving fossil remains. Yet they left evidence that can be found in the DNA of living thing on this Earth today. The fossil evidence is strong but the molecular evidence is a dead lock cinch.

Like it or not, your ignorance is your problem, not mine.

Sheer utter ignorant nonsense. Fossilization is quite a rare event. There are many ancient species for which only one or two fossils have been found. This is not only for humans but for many other species. The expectation that fossils should be found for the specific founder population is sheer utter nonsense that only an uneducated fool would expect. Population bottleneck studies are conclusive. The founder population ranged in the thousands. Today members of both lineages exist and there is a fossil record linking them along with genetic evidence that conclusively confirms.
BTW, no body for Adam, Eve, Cain, Able, etc., either. Moron.
Humans evolved. The problem for believers in the literal Adam & Eve story is that the literal details of the myth are in conflict with the evidence. That is their problem, not mine.

The so-called "mitochondrial Eve" has nothing to do with any mythical garden. There are autosomal alleles for which most recent common ancestors (MRCA) are much older and from many different locations.

The DNA evidence conclusively rules out an extreme bottleneck such as Noah. Furthermore, the Y-chromosome data could identify that some individual was a common ancestor to all living males, but it is a MRCA,found in a statistical analysis, not a particular individual who could possibly be identified. In any event, there are MRCA for certain autosomal alleles that are very old, way older than the biblical Noah.

Sorry.

From "The Obama Timeline"
It is said that Dunham and Obama, Sr. visited his homeland of Kenya at the beginning of their long summer break from the University and that Obama was born in Africa. As the summer progressed, the airlines would not have allowed a very pregnant Dunham fly all the way back to Hawaii, and Dunham therefore would have given birth in Kenya.
Dunham’s high school classmate Susan Blake recalls that during a 1961 visit to Seattle Dunham was excited about her husband’s plans to return to Kenya. Blake does not indicate whether Dunham was going to Kenya with her husband, but it is not illogical to believe that the newlyweds would travel together to Obama Sr.’s homeland in order for Dunham to “meet the parents,” with the trip taking place over the summer when university classes were not in session.
It is also said that Obama's Kenya relatives were not too happy to see him bring home a white wife.
It is also said that the entire "Born in Kenya" story is false. And that saying is absolutely TRUE. Did you know that only 21 people came to the USA from Kenya in 1961? And did you know that all but one of them came BY SEA (by ship)---and that there were no regular ships from Kenya to Hawaii, or vice versa, in 1961. And, did you know that the government of Kenya said that it investigated the "born in Kenya" story and that it is FALSE.

The “born in Kenya” story is the height of the loony side of the birther movement. It is based on alleged birth certificates, like that of Lucas D. Smith, and falsifications–such as the claim that Obama’s Kenyan grandmother said that he was born in Kenya—when she actually said right on the same tape that he was born IN HAWAII, and she said in another interview that the first that her family in Kenya had heard of Obama’s birth was in a letter FROM HAWAII.

Lucas D. Smith claimed that he went to Kenya and got Obama’s birth certificate at a hospital in Mombasa. But Lucas D. Smith has constantly refused to show proof that he, Smith, had ever gone to Kenya. All that he would have to do would be to show a Kenya stamp on a page of a passport, but Lucas D. Smith has refused to do that, constantly, and he has also constantly refused to say why he will not show that proof.

Laying aside for a moment the overwhelming proof that Obama was born in Hawaii, the evidence that Obama was NOT born in Kenya is also very strong. There were a grand total of 21 people who came to the USA from Kenya in 1961. Of these only seven were US citizens. And the birther myth has always been that Obama’s parents went there and returned by plane, but only one person came to the USA from Kenya in 1961 by plane and that person was, wait for it, NOT a US citizen. And Obama’s father did not go to Kenya in 1961 either (making it unlikely that his mother did, since travel late in pregnancy was rare, and even more rare without the husband going along). WND has proved with a FOI Act request that Obama senior stayed in Hawaii throughout 1961.

And the Kenyan government investigated the “born in Kenya” story, and found that it was not true.

“Jon Chessoni, a first secretary at the Kenyan Embassy in Washington, can’t understand why his office gets so many baseless questions about whether Barack Obama was born in Kenya.

“It’s madness,” said Chessoni on Monday.“His father, in 1961, would not even have been in Kenya. When this matter first came up, the Kenyan government did its research and confirmed that these are all baseless claims.””

How many flights are there today from the U.S. to Kenya? None that are direct But as it is today and can fly between the U.S. via London!!!
In December 1958 I flew from Frankfurt Germany to New York City on a TWA Super Connie prop-job. It took 18 hours with stops in Shannon, Ireland and Gander Newfoundland, Canada. But 1961 most flight across the Atlantic and to Hawaii were by jet but you probably would have taken a prop-job from Kenya to London but it probably would have taken about 36 hours including stops.
Still, very possible. And if the child was on American documents, it would not have been counted as one of the 21 coming from Kenya.
