Special: Orwell Rolls in his Grave
Corrupt Corporate Mainstream Media / http://tinyurl.com/3aagow

Over the last several years, the media landscape has changed dramatically. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin pushed through a radical new change in the rules: For the first time in 32 years, television broadcasters in the top 20 markets can also own a newspaper and a radio station in the same area. Michael Copps, one of two FCC Commissioners to vote against the rule, called it ďa decision that would make Orwell proud." It allows even greater media consolidation, and makes independent media even rarer.

Can a media system controlled by just a few corporations really deliver on the promise of the First Amendment? Or is this just the beginning of an Orwellian nightmare where lies can become truth?

In this Link TV special presentation of Orwell Rolls in His Grave take a look at the consequences of unchecked media consolidation. Director Robert Kane Pappasí Orwell Rolls in His Grave is the consummate critical examination of the Fourth Estate, once the bastion of American democracy. Asking whether America has entered an Orwellian world of doublespeak where outright lies can pass for the truth, Pappas explores what the media doesnít like to talk about: itself. Meticulously tracing the process by which media has distorted and often dismissed actual news events, Pappas presents a riveting and eloquent mix of media professionals and leading intellectual voices on the media.

From the very size of the media monopolies and how they got that way to who decides what gets on the air and what doesnít, Orwell Rolls in His Grave moves through a troubling list of questions and news stories that go unanswered and unreported in the mainstream media. Are Americans being given the information a democracy needs to survive or have they been electronically lobotomized? Has the frenzy for media consolidation led to a dangerous irony where in an era of more news sources the majority of the population has actually become less informed? Orwell Rolls in His Grave reminds us that 1984 is no longer a date in the future.

Some Iraq Analysts Felt Pressure From Cheney Visits
June 5, 2003 / http://tinyurl.com/kjcxxys
Vice President Cheney and his most senior aide made multiple trips to the CIA over the past year to question analysts studying Iraq's weapons programs and alleged links to al Qaeda, creating an environment in which some analysts felt they were being pressured to make their assessments fit with the Bush administration's policy objectives, according to senior intelligence officials.
With Cheney taking the lead in the administration last August in advocating military action against Iraq by claiming it had weapons of mass destruction, the visits by the vice president and his chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, "sent signals, intended or otherwise, that a certain output was desired from here," one senior agency official said yesterday.

Was Ending CIA Osama Unit A Mistake?
First Head Of Unit Tells CBS News Closing Was 'Questionable'
Michael Scheuer CIA Retired / July 5, 2006 http://tinyurl.com/f4bdu

(CBS/AP) The first head of the Central Intelligence Agency's Osama bin Laden-hunting unit tells CBS News that closing the unit was "a mistake" and "a questionable decision."

"Bin laden remains the single most important threat to the United States, and there's no way around that fact," Michael Scheuer a CBS News terrorism analyst said on The Early Show.
It was reported by the New York Times Tuesday that the CIA has closed the unit that for a decade had the mission of hunting Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants.
Scheuer said bin Laden is unquestionably a threat to the United States.

The Department of Defense (DoD) is proud to announce a new fleet of Class 69 destroyers. Having initially named the first two ships USS Daring and USS Dauntless, the Naming Committee has, after intensive pressure from Congress, renamed them USS Cautious and USS Prudent.

The next five ships are to be USS Empathy, USS Circumspect, USS Nervous, USS Timorous and USS Apologist.

Costing $850 million each they comply with the very latest employment, equality, health and safety and human rights laws.

The U.S. Navy fully expects any future enemy to be decent and to comply with the same high standards of our behavior.

The viewer friendly stacks will be painted in the "gay pride" colors.

Live ammunition has been replaced with paintballs to reduce the risk of anyone getting hurt and to cut down on the number of compensation claims.

Stress counselors and lawyers will be on board, as well as a union representative for each of the trades on board.

The crew will be 50%/50% men and women and will contain the correct balance of race, gender, sexuality and disability.

Sailors will only work a maximum of 40 hours per week as per union rules on working hours, and time and a half for overtime and double time on Sundays and holidays, even in wartime.

All the vessels are equipped with a maternity ward and a gay disco.

Tobacco will be banned throughout the ship, but recreational cannabis will be allowed in wardrooms and messes.

Saluting of officers is now considered elitist and has been replaced by "Hi Sailor".

All information on notice boards will be in 37 different languages.

Crew members will now have permission to grow beards and/or mustaches. This applies equally to female crew.

A majority of Senators have suggested a "non-specific" flag because the current "Stars and Stripes" may offend some Nations during port calls.

The newly re-named USS Cautious will be commissioned shortly by a Muslim cleric from the Washington DC Mosque who will detonate a small explosive device near the hull.

As she will gently slide into the sea the Marine Corps Band will play "In the Navy" by the Village People.

Her first deployment will be to escort boatloads of illegal immigrants to ports on the East coast. of the U.S.

The President said, "Our ships reflect the very latest in modern thinking and they will always be able to comply with any new legislation from the U.N."

His final words were, "I told you there would be "CHANGE!"

No, I want to apologize for my bad hearing. I thought Obama said he saved Detroit and killed bin Laden. But oh my God, I got it backwards. LOL.

But gosh, all of us Democrats led by the main stream media, just keep getting it wrong folks.
It seems that Obama meant something entirely different when he claimed that he KILLED bin Laden and SAVED Detroit.

Because, you know, like a lot of problems Obama has tried to tackle, the result has been the exact opposite of what weíve been told.

In fact, OBAMA KILLED DETROIT AND SAVED AL QAEDA.

And it seems: HE MEANT TO DO THAT, in the words of the immortal of poet of the Big Eighties, Pee Wee Herman.

But what can you expect from a guy who thinks the United States has 57 states, that port of Savannah resides on the Gulf of Mexico and China provides a model economy.

As community organizer, it seems, Obama rarely traveled outside of, say, West 26th Street and East 79th street in Chicago,'EASY Street' at least mentally, politically and philosophically.

Remember when we had Bushisms? The Obamaisms are much better!

I wonít bring up the point that the media RARELY, IF EVER, calls Obama out on his faux pasÖ whoops, there I pointed it out and I didnít mean to.
Ok, ok, I meant to do that.

Because there is a larger point here: You cannot treat the truth like itís flexible or pliable or moldable to fit your circumstances without an awful lot of stretching that goes into it.

Just ask Nancy Pelosiís cosmetic surgeon. You can stretch around the edges as much as you want, but that only goes so far. Or when I take a special photo of myself, the same applies.

Right now the Democrats, as represented by Obama, are mostly stretch, and no substance. But Obama was way cooler than Romney and THAT was all that mattered.

Early in America's involvement in the Vietnam War we built several airbases inside Thailand. The Thais allowed us to base aircraft there so long as they were not BOMBERS. So we re-designated the B-26Ks as A-26As.
And under the START agreement we were not allowed to station U-2s in Europe so we re-designated some U-2s as TR-1s (TR = Tactical Reconnaissance).
Japans consitution said they can not have a combat ship larger than a destroyer so they call the helicopter carriers (aircraft carriers) as "flat-top destroyers" even though they are three or four times the size of a regular 'destroyer'.
I guess you can call it "political semanics"

Actor Matt Damon told Black Entertainment Television (BET) that President Barack Obama "has some explaining to do:"
"There are a lot of things that I really question Ė the legality of the drone strikes, these NSA revelations. Jimmy Carter came out and said we donít live in a democracy. Thatís a little intense when an ex-president says that. So you know, heís got some explaining to do, particularly for a constitutional law professor."
When asked his opinion of the President's second term, Damon chuckled and said, "He broke up with me."
