She's lived out here all her life. There are lizards, geckos, spiders, and other things everywhere out here. It's a friggin' tropical island. She has not lived in a nice house like the one I'm renting. But you're a loser who has never been out of your backyard so you wouldn't know.

BTW, yesterday I saw at the Gaisano Grand Mall (nothing grand about it by US standards) a bottle of Argintinian red wine labeled "California Red". In the same store I saw "Virginia Hot Dogs" made in Philippines. I got a decent Bordeaux Superieur for less than 500 PHP, about $12.00 US. There's a big black fearless spider in my 2nd bedroom, a gecko hangs out in the "cr" as they call it here, and a lizard that lives under the round shelf on the kitchen table. I didn't think geckos bite bu g/f warned me so I didn't pick it up.
Unfortunately my g/f won't let me check out the bikini bars in Cebu City. She won't let me out of her sight.
I recommend taking vacation around December-January because you can get much lower airfare. As a professor, I have a semester break during Dec-Jan. There's nothing to "pull off" except paying for an airline ticket. My round trip fare was $1768 via Priceline. In Dec I could have gotten it for $1000. Round trip Manila to Cebu City only $55.00 via Philippine Airlines. First night I found a nice hotel for only $32 (Alpa City Suites in Mandaue City). Then went w/ g/f to the SM Mall, which isn't as big as the Ayala Mall. She's enjoyning showing off her rich American b/f. She's so jealous I can't keep her hands off me even though I'm 28 years older. Although I don't need it, sildenafil citrate 50 mg costs $1.92 per tablet. I'm living like a horny teenager in paradise.

TRAYVON MARTIN: How a Miami School Crime Cover-Up Policy Led to Trayvon Martin’s Death

By Robert Stacy McCain on 7.15.13
The February 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martion might never have happened if school officials in Miami-Dade County had not instituted an unofficial policy of treating crimes as school disciplinary infractions. Revelations that emerged from an internal affairs investigation explain why Martin was not arrested when caught at school with stolen jewelry in October 2011 or with marijuana in February 2012. Instead, the teenager was suspended from school, the last time just days before he was shot dead by George Zimmerman.
Trayvon Martin was not from Sanford, the town north of Orlando where he was shot in 2012 and where a jury acquitted Zimmerman of murder charges Saturday. Martin was from Miami Gardens, more than 200 miles away, and had come to Sanford to stay with his father’s girlfriend Brandy Green at her home in the townhouse community where Zimmerman was in charge of the neighborhood watch. Trayvon was staying with Green after he had been suspended for the second time in six months from Krop High School in Miami-Dade County, where both his father, Tracy Martin, and mother, Sybrina Fulton, lived.
Both of Trayvon’s suspensions during his junior year at Krop High involved crimes that could have led to his prosecution as a juvenile offender. However, Chief Charles Hurley of the Miami-Dade School Police Department (MDSPD) in 2010 had implemented a policy that reduced the number of criiminal reports, manipulating statistics to create the appearance of a reduction in crime within the school system. Less than two weeks before Martin’s death, the school system commended Chief Hurley for “decreasing school-related juvenile delinquency by an impressive 60 percent for the last six months of 2011.” What was actually happening was that crimes were not being reported as crimes, but instead treated as disciplinary infractions.

In October 2011, after a video surveillance camera caught Martin writing graffiti on a door, MDSPD Office Darryl Dunn searched Martin’s backpack, looking for the marker he had used. Officer Dunn found 12 pieces of women’s jewelry and a man’s watch, along with a flathead screwdriver the officer described as a “burglary tool.” The jewelry and watch, which Martin claimed he had gotten from a friend he refused to name, matched a description of items stolen during the October 2011 burglary of a house on 204th Terrace, about a half-mile from the school. However, because of Chief Hurley’s policy “to lower the arrest rates,” as one MDSPD sergeant said in an internal investigation, the stolen jewerly was instead listed as “found property” and was never reported to Miami-Dade Police who were investigating the burglary. Similarly, in February 2012 when an MDSPD officer caught Martin with a small plastic bag containing marijuana residue, as well as a marijuana pipe, this was not treated as a crime, and instead Martin was suspended from school.
Either of those incidents could have put Trayvon Martin into the custody of the juvenile justice system. However, because of Chief Hurley’s attempt to reduce the school crime statistics — according to sworn testimony, officers were “basically told to lie and falsify” reports — Martin was never arrested. And if he had been arrested, he might never have been in Sanford the night of his fatal encounter with Zimmerman.
In fact, the reason Zimmerman was patrolling the townhouse community the night of the February 2012 shooting was that there had been a rash of burglaries in the neighborhood, although there was no indication that Trayvon Martin was involved in any of those crimes.
As for Chief Hurley’s policy, it was the controversy over Martin’s death that accidentally exposed it. In March 2012, the Miami Herald reported on Martin’s troubled history of disciplinary incidents at Krop High. Chief Hurley then launched the internal affairs investigation in an attempt to find out who had provided information to the reporter. During the course of that investigation, MDSPD officers and supervisors described Chief Hurley’s policy of not reporting crimes by students. Chief Hurley was subsequently accused of sexually harassing two female subordinates. He resigned in February, about a year after Trayvon Martin’s death.

Judge Orders $1 Million Returned to Exotic Dancer
By Geetika Rudra | ABC News Blogs – Tue, Jul 23, 2013

A federal judge has ruled that Nebraska cops must return over $1 million confiscated at a traffic stop from a woman who saved the money $1 at a time during her 15 year career as an exotic dancer.
The money belongs to Tara Mishra, 33, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., who began putting aside her earnings when she started dancing at age 18, according to an opinion U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon wrote last week. The money was meant to start her business and get out of the stripping business, the judge wrote.
State troopers confiscated the money in March 2012 when they pulled over Rajesh and Marina Dheri, of Montville, N.J., for speeding in Nebraska, according to court documents. The Dheris are friends of Mishra and had been given the cash so they could buy a nightclub in New Jersey. Mishra would own half of the business and the Dheris would own the other half.
Mishra had packaged the money in $10,000 bundles tied with hair bands and placed in plastic bags, and it was stashed in the trunk of the Dheri's rented car, which the Dheris were driving to Chicago. When they were pulled over for speeding, a state trooper asked the Dheris if he could search their vehicle, which they allowed, Bataillon explained.
The state trooper found the money and after suspecting it was drug money took the Dheris into custody, according to the judge's opinion. But police did not find any evidence of drug activity in the car and a K-9 analysis found only trace elements of illegal drugs on the cash, according to Bataillon.
Neither Mishra nor the Dheris could not be reached for comment.
"The government failed to show a substantial connection between drugs and the money," Bataillon wrote in his opinion. "The dog sniff is inconsequential…The court finds the Mishras' story is credible…Ms. Mishra did have control over the money and directed the Dheris to deliver the money to New Jersey for the purchase of the business."

The Difference Between Republicans and Democrats

The difference between the Republicans in Congress and the Democrats in Congress is striking.
The Democrats are in the majority in the House, and are a narrow majority in the Senate, yet they cannot pass any consequential legislation. The one thing they tout as an accomplishment in nine months of controlling Congress is a pathetic “raise” in the federal minimum wage which, first of all, is so small and belated that in most states it will go unnoticed because it’s lower than most state minimum wage laws, and in any case it’s below what the market is providing, and secondly, they only passed that measure by attaching it to an obscene $120-billion funding bill to continue the Iraq War.
The Republicans, however, in House and Senate, though in the minority in both Houses, have managed, by asserting their unity and collective strength, to block a bill that would somewhat restrict spying on Americans by the National Security Agency, to block a bill putting a deadline on the US occupation of Iraq, and to uphold a presidential veto on a bill expanding subsidized health insurance for children.
Say what you want about Republicans being cold-hearted, child-hating, war-mongering, domestic spying advocates. At least they fight for the crap they believe in!
Democrats, on the other hand, claim to be against the Iraq War, but they continue to support funding it, to the tune of over $300 billion since they took control of Congress.

Florida couple cancels news conference about how George Zimmerman helped them after car crash
Published July 24, 2013 Associated Press

ORLANDO, Fla.– A husband and wife canceled a news conference in which they had planned to talk about how George Zimmerman assisted them after their SUV flipped over on a Florida highway.
Mark and Dana Gerstle had planned to speak Wednesday afternoon at the Orlando law office of Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara.
But O'Mara spokesman Shawn Vincent says they changed their minds, deciding they didn't want to be in the spotlight.
Zimmerman and another man helped the couple and their two children out of a flipped SUV off the road near Interstate 4 last week. The family wasn't hurt.
It was the first time Zimmerman was seen publicly since he was acquitted on all charges earlier this month in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.

People who try to come to America are usually pretty tough. Think about it. A new culture, new language, you are away from your family, etc. Most people won't even though them would probably be better off for the trip.

Last night I scared a black squiggly critter about four inches long. It was on the wall outside the house. It leaped to the overhanging roof scurried a few feel and then let go, falling to the ground and disappeared. I have no idea what it was.

BTW, my g/f saw the "mean black spider" yesterday which I had told her about, and informed me that it was harmless. She shooed it out of the house. She thought it was pretty funny.

The biggest problem with gasoline powered aircraft is that over 90% of them need leaded gasoline, 100LL (Low Lead) but there has been a big push to go to diesel engine power aircraft that use jet fuel.

DeltaHawk Engine Update

Right now there are only a few FAA certified aircraft diesel engines. Most are based on automotive converted engines but one, built by SMA of France, was scratch built. But all of these are hour-stroke engines that are ... HEAVY.
DeltaHawk has bee working on a two-stroke engines which are about 40 pounds less that a comparable Lycoming O/IO-360 engine. And when you consider they use 40% less fuel (60% cheaper), and use readily available Jet fuel, you should see them in a lot of light aircraft real soon.
Since they have a built in super/turbo charger, they will make full power up to at least 15,000 feet PA.
Deltahawk also expects to make a 300 hp V6 engine and a 400 hp V-8 engine which will be a lot cheaper than a turbo prop plane.

Wiretap Denial a Criminal Cover-up
August 10, 2007 http://tinyurl.com/ypukpy
Eight words: "These calls are not intercepted within the country." That's how President Bush has described the so-called "Terrorist Surveillance Program" — the president's warrantless wiretapping of communications between persons inside and outside the United States when the government claims a link to al-Qaida. The president said this during a press conference on Dec. 19, 2005, three days after The New York Times revealed the program's existence.

But now it seems those eight words weren't true. In fact, they concealed unlawful conduct.

Over this past weekend, Congress passed a hastily drafted bill amending FISA — the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978. One of the bill's key provisions amends FISA to allow warrantless wiretapping whenever the target of the surveillance is "a person reasonably believed to be located outside the United States."

In little-noticed testimony before a Senate committee on May 1, director of national intelligence Mike McConnell disclosed the reason why the White House wanted this amendment. He said: "When seeking to monitor foreign persons suspected of involvement in terrorist activity who are physically located in foreign countries, the intelligence community is required under today's FISA to obtain a court order to conduct surveillance." At the same hearing, National Security Agency director Keith Alexander explained that a FISA warrant is required because the communication is "collected in the United States." http://www.law.com/jsp/ca/PubArticleCA.jsp...
