Detroit bankruptcy move is illegal

DETROIT — A judge is ordering Gov. Rick Snyder to withdraw Detroit's bankruptcy petition, saying the state is illegally trampling the rights of pensioners.
But the practical impact of the decision is unclear. Once a bankruptcy filing is made, it generally trumps other litigation in state courts.
Ingham County Judge Rosemarie Aquilina's decision Friday came in a lawsuit filed by Detroit pensioners. The judge had planned an emergency hearing Thursday, butDetroit then filed for bankruptcy protection.

Obama and the left wing liberals won't be happy until all big cities declare bankruptcy. If they didn't want cities to go bankrupt they would stop the radical left wing waste that contributes to the problems across our country. They want the big cities to default on manciple bonds because they feel that by not paying back the investments of hard working people they are contributing to their goal of redistribution of wealth but they are actually talking money away from already overburdened retired people now and generations of hard working people in the future.

Frank, reading your tripe is almost depressing. You think there are no leftists and rightists and fascists like you and commies and socialists etc in other countries that compare with yours? If Repubs are so hot, have they not been in power as long as dems since independence and thus don't you think the disastrous Nixon, Reagan, GHB and GWB economic years have anything to do with hard economic times?
Our countries problems are depressing, unfortunately those in power are only trying to make things worst. I remember very well how depressing it was when Johnson was in office and how bad the economy got when Carter was in The White House. Too bad for us that every one in the country doesn't learn from the past, resent past or far beyond. The Republican party used history to redefine progress in the 1850's in the 1880's. Did you know that birther sites have not even shown that Obama’s mother had a passport in 1961–and very few 18-year-olds did in 1961?

(And although the information is available, they have not even shown the date on which Obama’s mother’s passport file was CREATED, and that is unlikely to have been scratched off of the file–and if it were, they would surely tell us—so why haven’t they told us the date on which Obama’s mothers’ passport file was created?)

Also, birther sites have never told their readers that very very few women traveled outside of the country in the last two months of pregnancy in 1961 because of the high risk of stillbirths.

So they want gullible people to assume that she had a passport and was one of the very very few women to travel out of the country in 1961 and that the officials of BOTH parties in Hawaii who have repeatedly stated that Obama has a Hawaii birth certificate and that it shows that he was born in Hawaii are lying.

How likely is that?

(Oh, and all the stuff about the Kenyan grandmother allegedly saying that Obama was born in Kenya—that is simply made up. She never said any such thing. Birther sites simply cut off the tape recording just BEFORE she was asked:“Where was he born?” She answered that by saying repeatedly “In Hawaii”—but they never quoted her. I wonder why not?)

So birther sites have lied, and they have not told you that there is no evidence that Obama’s mother had a passport, and they did not tell you how few women traveled in late pregnancy—and yet they want you to believe that the birth certificate is forged (quoting birther “experts,” of course) and that the officials in Hawaii, including the former Republican governor (a friend of Sarah Palin’s) are lying about it.

You have no idea how your conception of how history is taught is in agreement with mine. I first learned Canadian history in Catholic French-language school. Oh boy, were the English and their allies, the Iroquois, the bad guys. Not one good thing about them. I was full of bluster against those damn redcoats and their Indian allies. Then later, I got in touch with the English version of Canadian history. Oh man, those evil Frenchmen Papist Catholics ! And their nasty allies, the Algonquins and Hurons. Needless to say, I was taken aback. With maturity came common sense, I some research, and I'm now more comfortable with what I think is the truth, gleaned through books, conversations, etc. Both sides lied of course and both sides gave what they felt was their version of the truth. Pretty much the same as in your country. One thing both sides pretty much avoided, though, was the god-awful mistreatment they heaped on the native peoples. Right up until the 1950s and oontinuing in a more subtle manner up to today. We treated (treat) our native people like sh*t, still do but assuage our guilt by throwing money at their chiefs, not the peons. We never had many black people up until the early 80s, so we treated them pretty well because their low numbers were not a threat. Now they are more numerous and we're finding out that we've been "holier than thou" when commenting on treatment of blacks by Americans. Yes, we are no better, no worse, than you guys, which is not saying much.

Back to the 1880s
This is not the first time that America has looked as if it was about to succumb to what might be termed the British temptation. America witnessed a similar widening of the income gap in the Gilded Age. It also witnessed the formation of a British-style ruling class. The robber barons of the late 19th century sent their children to private boarding schools and made sure that they married the daughters of the old elite, preferably from across the Atlantic. Politics fell into the hands of the members of a limited circle—so much so that the Senate was known as the millionaires' club.
Yet the late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a concerted attempt to prevent America from degenerating into a class-based society. Progressive politicians improved state education. Philanthropists—many of them the robber barons reborn in new guise—tried to provide ladders to help the lads-o'-parts (Andrew Carnegie poured millions into free libraries). Such reforms were motivated partly out of a desire to do good works and partly out of a real fear of the implications of class-based society. Teddy Roosevelt advocated an inheritance tax because he thought that huge inherited fortunes would ruin the character of the republic. James Conant, the president of Harvard in 1933-53, advocated radical educational reform—particularly the transformation of his own university into a meritocracy—in order to prevent America from producing an aristocracy.

Saturday is the Fourth of July, also known as the American holiday Independence Day. I'm American and I think it's fair to say we love the British now--we give British royalty a royal welcome when they visit America--but Saturday is the day we celebrate our independence from Britain, and people often ask me why there are differences between American and British English, so this seems like a good time to answer that question.
Why Do Britons and Americans Spell Words Differently?
The first question is why are British and American spellings different for certain words?
Noah Webster
The first answer is to blame Noah Webster, of Webster's Dictionary fame.
He believed it was important for America, a new and revolutionary nation, to assert its cultural independence from Britain through language.
He wrote the first American spelling, grammar, and reading schoolbooks and the first American dictionary. He was also an ardent advocate of spelling reform and thought words should be spelled more like they sound.

Webster's birthplace helps to tell the story of one man's vision and his impact on American culture. Through the promotion of education, laws, human rights, and language, Noah Webster helped to create a national identity for a fledgling nation. Though he accomplished much more during his life, Webster is best remembered for authoring two of America’s most influential books, the "Blue-Backed Speller" and An American Dictionary of the English Language.

We don't have an official language. Seriously...look it up.

About half the states have an official language but no official federal language exist.

And it certainly is NOT in the Constitution.

American English is relative to where you live. Actual English is the queen's English.

We have a distorted form of English mainly due to what we are. A melting pot. We have words from over 50 languages. And since we are a country of immigrants they are pronounced lots of different ways.

People from Pittsburgh sound nothing like people from Alabama. People in West Virginia sound nothing like Californians.

Webster modified our language about as much as Jeff Foxworthy has.

What Does It Take to Become a U.S. Citizen?
You can become an U.S. citizen by birth, through a process called "naturalization," through "derivative citizenship," or through "acquired citizenship."

Naturalization

A process where you show Immigration – the government agency that regulates questions of citizenship -- that you meet certain legal requirements for becoming a U.S. citizen is called "naturalization."

You must have "good moral character" to become a naturalized U.S. citizen. This does not necessarily mean the same as a "good person," as opposed to a "bad person." This is only a legal phrase. You might know a person whom you think of as a "good person" but Immigration might consider this person to lack "good moral character" and deny him or her citizenship.“Good moral character” is not the only requirement for naturalization. Find a complete list of the other general requirements for naturalization at: http://www.uscis.gov/naturalization .

If a person meets all the naturalization requirements, they can apply for naturalization. Immigration will send out an interview notice several months after the naturalization application is filed. During the interview, Immigration will go over the application to make sure the citizenship answers are correct. English skills and an understanding of U.S. history and government are tested.

If either the English or U.S. history or government tests are failed, <<<---<<<

a second interview will be scheduled 3 months later to allow more time to study.

If the second interview is failed,
citizenship will be denied. <<<--<<<

Filing again is acceptable, but fees will need to be paid once again.

She has NO power. Her representative, the governor general also has NO power. You did not read the whole thing, for it says very clearly "on the advice of the prime minister", same as they have in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and some Caribbean islands. Once in Canada's history, the governor general did not follow the Prime Minister's advice (McKenzie King) and he was gone almost immediately , back to England. Since 1952, the Gov Gen is always a Canadian, and often a woman.
The post is good, as it is neutral politically and yes, he can invite a political party to form a gov't. INVITE, I said, he/she has nothing to say about the composition of the gov't. It leaves the tedious tasks of giving awards and medals, receiving letters of credence from new ambassadors and high commissioners, going to funerals to the Governor General, etc, instead of the busy Prime Minister. Do you really think that the Queen of England even rules England? Go back to Pravda.
She seems to be off her meds. Last few post had nearly zero facts in them.

It makes a big deal about how the Queen is ruling over Canada...even as her own "copy and paste" states that for all practical purposes she has zero to do with Govt.

I don't really care what form of christian she claims to be...but if it happens to be a form of Anglican...she is under the Queens boot as well.

As she is "defender of the faith"

All Christians are admitted slaves/serfs. And are appreciative of their chains.

Not sure where the "You have a queen, I don't" arguement goes when you profess servility as the best thing that could happen to you.

Well said!
Just one question. What is it about "Tea bags" that you disapprove of?
I read their platform and none of it seems fit for disdain.
I asked this question of someone before and they informed me that it was some rich people that began the movement.
They were unable to expand on why this made the word "Tea Party" or "Tea Baggers" derogatory.
Maybe you can help me out here.
I suspect the character assassination of Palin by the Dims and the media has something to do with it. The tactics Dims use are nothing short of deplorable.
