Yea, but in 1964 they had a Topless Summer!!!

Topless Swim Suit - Norfolk 7/1/1964

With the summer season officially open, the manager at King’s Department store made sure that his customers had plenty of swimwear options to choose from. The much talked about subtracted bathing suit was added to the more conventional swimwear.

The suit was put on display at noon on the 1st of July and by 4 p.m., not one person had decided to add the suit to their wardrobe.

Some men caught a glance at the suit and quickly looked the other way. One elderly shopper wondered aloud why they even bothered with straps.

The topless suit comes in black only and is one of the highest priced at the store.

Pilot photographer S.H. Ringo was on the scene to capture a few reactions from some younger shoppers.

The topless swim suit was featured in Life magazine the same year, modelled by a young lady whose name was , I believe, not revealed, and taken under water in a pool. It caused a sensation among scandalized narrow-minded faux religious backwards prudes. Intelligent and non-insecure people just shrugged. In Europe, a woman is more noticed, more like a sore thumb if she chooses to wear a top at the beach. Not a sexist thing, as it matters not how old or young or ugly or beautiful or slender of fat a woman is. In parks in Frankfurt, women will tan topless during their lunch breaks. Yet, there is no more, no less, sexual abuse in those places, maybe less, than here in North America. Wonder why?

And why do you even post this sort of thing?

Bill & Hillary, 1970
BILL CLINTON'S MILITARY CAREER
Bill Clinton registers for the draft on Sept. 08, 1964, accepting all
contractual conditions of
registering for the draft. Selective Service Number is 326 46 228.
Bill Clinton classified 2-S on Nov 17, 1964.
Bill Clinton reclassified 1-A on March 20, 1968.
Bill Clinton ordered to report for induction on July 28, 1969.
Bill Clinton refuses to report and is not inducted into the military.
Bill Clinton reclassified 1-D after enlisting in the United States Army
Reserves on August 07, 1969,
under authority of COL. E. Holmes.
Clinton signs enlistment papers and takes oath of enlistment.
Bill Clinton fails to report to his duty station at the University of
Arkansas ROTC, September 1969.
Bill Clinton reclassified 1-A on Oct 30, 1969, as enlistment with Army
Reserves is revoked by Col E. Holmes and Clinton now AWOL and subject to
arrest under Public Law 90-40 (2)(a)- registrant who has failed to
report...remain liable for induction.
Bill Clinton's birth date lottery number is 311, drawn Dec 1, 1969, but
anyone who has
already been ordered to report for induction is INELIGIBLE!
Bill Clinton runs for Congress (1974), while a fugitive from justice under
Public Law 90-40.
Bill Clinton runs for Arkansas Attorney General (1976), while a fugitive
from justice.
Bill Clinton receives pardon on January 21, 1977, from President Carter.
Bill Clinton becomes the FIRST PARDONED FEDERAL FELON ever to serve as
President of the United States.
All these facts come from Freedom of Information requests, public laws, and
various books that have been published, and have not been refuted by
Clinton.
After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, President Clinton promised that
those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S.
military personnel, Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted
down and punished.
After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and
injured 200 U.S. military personnel, Clinton promised that those responsible
would be hunted down and punished.
It was Bill Clinton who refined the art of killing innocent Iraqis following the Gulf War. One of his first acts as president was to bomb Iraq, following the alleged assassination plot against George HW Bush. Clinton's missiles killed the famed Iraqi painter Leila al Attar as they smashed into her home. Clinton presided enthusiastically over the most deadly and repressive regime of economic sanctions in history--his UN ambassador Madeline Albright calling the reported deaths of half a million children "worth the price." Clinton initiated the longest sustained bombing campaign since Vietnam with his illegal no-fly zone bombings, attacking Iraq once every three days for the final years of his presidency. It was under Clinton that Ahmed Chalabi was given tens of millions of dollars and made a key player in shaping Washington's Iraq policy. It was Clinton that mercilessly attacked Iraq in December of 1998, destroying dozens of Baghdad buildings and killing scores of civilians. It was Clinton that codified regime change in Iraq as US policy. Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq but he could not have done it without the years of groundwork laid by Clinton and the Democrats. How ironic it was recently to hear Clinton call the war "a big mistake."

Bill Clinton: The Great Deregulator
September 10, 2012 / http://tinyurl.com/culdhuu
Bill Clinton bears as much responsibility as any politician for the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and the wild applause for his disingenuous speech at the Democratic National Convention last week is a sure sign of the poverty of what passes for progressive politics.

Do those convention delegates, and the fawning media that were wowed by the former president’s rhetorical seductions, not recall that just before he left office Clinton signed off on the game-changing legislation that ended the sensible rules imposed on Wall Street during the Great Depression? It was Clinton who cooperated with the Republicans in reversing the legacy of FDR’s New Deal, opening the floodgates of unfettered avarice that almost drowned the world’s economy during the reign of George W. Bush.

How convenient to ignore the Financial Services Modernization Act, which Clinton signed into law to summarily end the Glass-Steagall barrier against the commingling of investment and commercial banking. Do the Democrats not remember that Citigroup, the first too-big-to-fail bank made legal by the law Clinton signed, became the $15 million employer of Robert Rubin, the Clinton treasury secretary who led the fight for the law that legalized the creation of Citigroup? Or that Citigroup—led by Sanford Weill, to whom Clinton gave one of the souvenir pens he used to approve that onerous legislation—went on to be a major player in the subprime mortgage swindles and had to be bailed out with more than $50 billion of taxpayer funds?

I bet you can not qualify even one point you mentioned about. Like Bush bailed out Wall Street. Exactly what did Bush do to bail out Wall Street!!! The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 was a DEMOCRAT initiative passed by Congress just one month before the election of 2008.
"In the House Democrats voted 172 to 63 in favor of the legislation, while Republicans voted 108 to 91 against it." While in the Senate 41 Democrats voted for it while only 34 Republicans did. Bush was put between a rock and a hard spot if he did not sign it into law. So don't blame Bush on a DEMOCRAT INITIATIVE!!!

==========

McCain guru linked to subprime crisis / Republican Phil Gramm
3/28/08 / http://tinyurl.com/2ujo9b
The general co-chairman of John McCain’s presidential campaign, former Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Texas), led the charge in 1999 to repeal a Depression-era banking regulation law that Democrat Barack Obama claimed on Thursday contributed significantly to today’s economic turmoil.

“A regulatory structure set up for banks in the 1930s needed to change because the nature of business had changed,” the Illinois senator running for president said in a New York economic speech.“But by the time [it] was repealed in 1999, the $300 million lobbying effort that drove deregulation was more about facilitating mergers than creating an efficient regulatory framework.”
Gramm’s role in the swift and dramatic recent restructuring of the nation’s investment houses and practices didn’t stop there.

A year after the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act repealed the old regulations, Swiss Bank UBS gobbled up brokerage house Paine Weber. Two years later, Gramm settled in as a vice chairman of UBS’s new investment banking arm.

Later, he became a major player in its government affairs operation. According to federal lobbying disclosure records, Gramm lobbied Congress, the Federal Reserve and Treasury Department about banking and mortgage issues in 2005 and 2006.

During those years, the mortgage industry pressed Congress to roll back strong state rules that sought to stem the rise of predatory tactics used by lenders and brokers to place homeowners in high-cost mortgages.

For his work, Gramm and two other lobbyists collected $750,000 in fees from UBS’s American subsidiary. In the past year, UBS has written down more then $18 billion in exposure to subprime loans and other risky securities and is considering cutting as many as 8,000 jobs. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/924...

Dems ARE better if they are the lesser of two evils.
Obama did not start those two costly and disastrous wars, the Iraq one based on lies. I think he did pretty well with what he inherited, out of Iraq, soon, Afghanistan. And, as per Vietnam, the "bad guys", the enemy fought for over 12 years, will take over. All will have been for naught. Not Obama's words, "Mission accomplished". As for bailing out Wall street, and not Main street, yes, that is kinda hard to digest. BUT, the first bailout, the big one, occurred in November 2008, under GWB. And, was there a choice but to bail out the crooks if not only to save millions of jobs and avoid defaulting? You use the words "lesser evil". Well, I think bailing out the crooks was the lesser evil. And, what is "bailing out Main street"? Even the billions shelled out would've amounted to few thousand dollars per individual, individuals with maybe $2000 but no job, nothing. Bailout was blackmail, under GWB, these banks, brokers, KNEW that their modus operandi was unsustainable. Since when do you lend hundreds of thousands of dollars without checking if mortgagee even has a job, or verifying credit rating? They KNEW they'd be bailed out. But remember, all this greed and theft was not done under Obama.
As to social legislation, i.e., unemployment benefits, social security, annual leave, sick leave, maternity leave, workers' rights, some weak form of medicare, civil rights, minimum wage, etc, who brought those in? The Republicans? Correct me if I'm wrong, I think not. him, as good a man as he was, for tossing his hat in the ring and indirectly giving the nod to GWB.
Very astute post Jacques and I do agree with your overall premises.

BUT:

Clinton / Gore swept all the crimes of Iran/Contra under the rug.

Obama / Biden swept all the crimes of the 8 months of warnings before September 11, 2001, Iraqi WMDs, Spying on Americans, Black sites, etc. etc. etc.

Most readers of The Washington Post probably missed it. But probably not Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Fifty-six of his law school classmates (Harvard Law School, class of 1982) bought space for an open letter in mid-May that excoriated his “cavalier handling of our freedoms time and again.”
It read like an indictment, to wit:

“Witness your White House memos sweeping aside the Geneva Conventions to justify torture, endangering our own servicemen and women;
“Witness your advice to the President effectively reading Habeas Corpus out of our constitutional protections;

“Witness your support of presidential statements claiming inherent power to wiretap American citizens without warrants (and the Administration’s stepped-up wiretapping campaign, taking advantage of those statements, which continues on your watch to this day); and
“Witness your dismissive explanation of the troubling firings of numerous U.S. Attorneys, and their replacement with other more ‘loyal’ to the President’s politics, as merely ‘an overblown personal matter.’
