I am an old helicopter pilot but I also have a single and multi engine plane ratings but when I got back into flying in 2007 I decided to also do some basic acrobatic training.
All airplane pilots do simple stall maneuvers but to do spins you need a plane that is approved for spins and since a spin is an acrobatic maneuver you need parachutes, etc. I also had an acrobatic instructor pilot.
In a typical stall you may loose a couple hundred of feet before you recover but in a spin it maybe more than a thousand feet. Sooo, if you spin at traffic pattern altitude, you will probably no live to tell about it.
Now the modern Cirrus have a feture that is not on my older dsigned airplane but you can still induce a spin like this guy did.

Yep, Laura Bush was only 17 y/o, and less than half the age of JFK Jr, when he caused that fatal accident. It is not like she was drunk driving or driving at a reckless speed.
But JFK was 38 years old and had enough training to know that 1) he should not fly in marginal flight conditions and 2) he should have let his auto-pilot do the flying until he could get spatially re-oriented.
Fly over water at night with limited visibility requires flying on the instruments and JFK Jr. was not instrument rated. But, again, his plane had an auto-pilot. Why my plane has an auto pilot and anyone who flies solo at night should have either an auto-pilot or a copilot! Even with my 6,500+ flight hours will not fly at night w/o one or the other.

I wonder if the Zuni rocket that was accidentally fired by an F-14 on the other side of the deck and hit the drop fuel tanks on John McCain's A-4 caused the fuel fire? But it was all McCain's fault!!!
By the way, we AVIATORS do not call it a "wet start"! It is called a "hot start" and only on a rare occasion does a very little amount of raw fuel vent!
I have seen two helicopters hot start which resulted in "internal" engine fires and the engines do a "Chernobyl" and melt down internally and then molting metal flows out of the engine's exhaust.
