So that just means that we are lousy negotiators and did not get the full cost paid for. In fact, maybe we should make it 110% of the cost, or 120%. I certainly agree with you that Germany is not the place where the next war will start, but if they pay us a fair price (in fact, if they pay us enough to make a profit on the deal, which I propose), does that really matter?
What matters is having hundreds of missile-firing submarines, when that kind of war is not likely at all, and when the same benefit can be gotten with just a few of them.
All well and good, but why would the Germans want the US, France and the UK in Germany fully 68 years after war's end? East Germany's gone, the USSR is gone, has closed its bases in what was East Germany, the threat comes from other sources, and we still haven't figured those out. France and the UK are slowly diminishing their presence, as has the US lately and the Germans are not resisting. We left in 1993, no objections, and they were so happy to get their hands on the valuable real estate that we occupied. Staging bases are all that are needed,(we are now trying to open one), staffed with very few Americans and mostly German locally-engaged staff.

PS : South Korea has more population (50 million) than North Korea,(25 million) has more money, is more prosperous, with latest military equipment. I'd like to know why you guys have to base 50,000 U.S. soldiers there (have you any idea how much that costs?)with all their infrastructure and armaments. And you have additional bases in Japan and all over the Pacific. High time South Korea, whose prosperity is about to eclipse yours, assume its defence and responsibilities. You'd also be able to withdraw a flat top from that area, thereby deploying it somewhere else to make up for Enterprise or just simply mothball it ufn.

If I remember rightly, South Korea pays for practically all of it, and their motives are obvious. They assume that if our guys are killed in the start of a war, the USA will not ignore that fact.

North Korea threatens to scrap armistice ending war
By Jack Kim and Louis Charbonneau | Reuters
SEOUL/UNITED NATIONS (Reuters)- North Korea threatened on Tuesday to scrap an armistice that ended the 1950-53 civil war and sever a military "hotline" with the United States if South Korea and Washington pressed on with two-month-long war games.
It was a notable sharpening in the North's often bellicose rhetoric and followed word from U.N. diplomats that the United States and China had struck a tentative deal on a draft U.N. Security Council sanctions resolution that would punish North Korea for its third nuclear test, which it conducted last month.
"We will completely nullify the Korean armistice," the North's KCNA news agency said, quoting the Korean People's Army (KPA) Supreme Command spokesman.
"The war exercise being done by the United States and the puppet south Korea is a systematic act of destruction aimed at the Korean armistice."

The problem being is that most of Obama's reductions take place 5-10 years from now while his tax increases took effect immediately. Meanwhile our deficit will continue to grow at an increasing rate.
Just look at Obama Care which will not completely go into effect for a few more years but the taxes started LAST year.
Do you know why even a majority of Republicans support Obama’s approach Rogue? Obviously because it’s the only one that makes sense.

The survey found broad concern over the federal budget deficit — and support for a combination of spending cuts and tax increases.

To reduce the budget deficit, 19 percent said the president and Congress should focus only on spending cuts. Just 3 percent preferred only tax increases.

A strong majority — 76 percent — sought a combination of both.

What about "a majority of Republicans"?

Here was the breakdown of support for a mixed approach by party:

Democrats: 90 percent

Republicans: 56 percent

Independents: 76 percent

Researchers talked with 1,504 adults across the country from Feb. 13-18, 2013. Survey conducted by the Pew Research Center andUSA Today as the sequester loomed.

Good, excellent. If they are not willing to pay 110% of our true cost in maintaining the base, then we should leave. It's not businesslike to lose money on the deal. If they are willing to pay, then next time we should make it 120%.

Re: "If Pres. Truman had listened to Gen. MacArthur in 1951, the war would have been over before Christmas!!! "

If President Truman had listened to MacArthur, we'd have had to have sent a million men to Korea or used the bomb. And, when Eisenhower became president he ended the war without us actually winning it. Sometimes you just gotta know when to fold.

American Lady wrote:
Hillary Clinton is a Mass Murderer...Truth about why US bombed and killed 250,000 Serbian women and children
US Secretary of State and the Clintons used the words "ethnic cleansing" without justification to blind and propaganize the American people. The American press did not investigate, and did nothing to find out if the Muslims were indeed invading Serbia, burning churches, raping women, and committing other criminal acts. When the truth did come out, it was printed in the New York Times, but on page 7.
Millions of Muslims have since "invaded" Europe and the United Stats with the intent of taking over these civilizations through political and religious pressure, breeding huge numbers of Muslims, continued immigration, conversions, coercian, funding of pro-Muslim organizations, and anti-American groups, riots, threats, and basically throwing temper tantrums over imagined and real slights. What is interesting in the Muslim psychology, as they are insane, is that they did not calculate that enough United States and European people will rise up to smack them down. I see it happening now.****
However, the US and Europe has far too many cowards and pussies especially in the media and high office, and just as it occurred in Europe, we may wait until the situation becomes critical and millions die before we act. For example: One single pre-emptive bullet in Hitler's brain would have saved the lives of 14 million people. The same goes for Stalin, who murdered 60 million people before he was through.
Now what are we going to do about it?
There is a good chance Hillary Clinton[she DID] is going to run for president. However, since Hillary Clinton has been documented as being the top person involved in the Serbian massacres by ordering ex-Nato General, now retired, Wesley "The Weasel" Clark to bomb Kosovo for 78 days...this makes Hillary Clinton the most famous woman serial killer in history. Hillary Clinton should be tried for war crimes and murder.
Hillary Clinton is one of the most dangerous enemies of the United States and the world...because the majority of the American media are her unpaid, volunteer lobbyists, who will not print the truth or criminal history of this despicable, psychopathic swine. For example, just recently Hillary Clinton was fined $31,000 by the US Election Commission for falisfying documents and lying regarding where she got her campaign funds. She just laughed and paid it, and the American media said absolutely nothing. This is despicable.
The American press will do everything in their power to get Hillary Clinton elected, including lie, smear, hate, and act as volunteer lobbyists for the Democrat Party. This is not fair.
When Secretary of Defense Bill Cohen found out that Hillary Clinton was behind the lies about "ethnic cleansing, and "Weasel" Clark was lying about 250,000 poor, dead Muslims, and concocted the story to get our mind off Bill Clinton's blow jobs and lying to a Grand Jury...Cohen fired Clark six months before his scheduled retirement date.
This was a slap in his face.
What did the press do about Hillary?
Nothing
