Boxer : "It's not me who lost, it's my trainer".<quoted text>
It was not the U.S. military who lost, it was the Democrats who pulled the rug from out under the South Vietnamese. While Russia and China where supporting the North, the Democrat controlled Congress cut off funding to the South. It is hard to fight a war without fuel or ammo!
Oh, and that was why Obama is very reluctant to pull out of Afghanistan. If he pulled the rug from underneath the Afghans in the first year he was in office and the country failed, it would have been blamed on him and the Democrats who controlled Congress at the time. But if Obama is reelected, he will pull the plug early next year as he is not up for reelection in 2016!
It is not that power corrupts, it is the fear of losing power that corrupts. And a perfect example is .... Richard Nixon and now .... Obama!!!
Anyhow, I thought Nixon was president when the roof fell in. And did he go against congess"s will? And if Congress had approved all demands, what would the outcome have been? The same, 2 years late, like Iraq and Afghanistan. Vietnam was the first to prove that battles may be lost, but wars are no longer lost - by even the weakest of nations. You can no longer attack, invade, conquer, Rogue, get over it, those days are over, nations lose, the people go underground and continue the fight, right or wrong, right and left, socialist and capitalists, it doesn't matter, no one gets conquered anymore. Got it?
