L1: If you don't like feeling that way, do something about it. This is one of those times it IS all about you. Get some friends, find a boyfriend who isn't married, learn about relationships so you can enter a mature one.

L2: This is very petty. She probably did forget how to address her or is always in a rush. Quite weird that a teach er can't handle this "problem".

L3: Great. Good for you.

L2: I bet the LW is one of those people that excessively uses names. Far more annoying than not using them at all.

My uncle does that. He sounds like a bad salesman.

I have read a psych theory that use of a person's given name is an effort to exert control over that person.

I hate my name, and when people use it excessively when speaking to me it just pretty much ticks me off and makes me want to do the opposite of whatever they want.

LW1: You are in a long distance relationship with a separated, not divorced man who lives next door to his not-yet-ex wife and you are jealous of his relationship with his *sister*??? Okaaaaay. You know, there are a lot of single men in the world. Some of them live closer to you and are single or divorced. Maybe you should consider seeing other men.

LW2: You are a teacher and you have to ask an advice columnist how to solve a very minor problem? Wear a name tag. If she has trouble remembering your name, this will solve the problem.

Well, most of the excessively controlling people I know in real life are the type of people who start almost every single sentence with the name of the person they are speaking to.

pde, really? It must be difficult, pde, to deal with people such as that. Pde, what do you say when you encounter them?

L2 is just a complete friggin annoying moron. I never use people's names unless I have to get their attention. If I already have your attention, there is no reason for me to say you name. And as far as email, look up at the top, you pain in the ass. Right next to the word "To". She addressed you by name right there.
