People that want to legally carry a gun and kill people sign up to be cops. I haven't seen that a cop that joined with the "serve and protect" mentality. If they did we wouldn't have all these issues with them.

There are two types of cops:

Lazy Cops: You find these in packs, you can tell by the 5 squad cars parked in front of a restaurant for hours. Or at the 7eleven reading magazines lolligaggin.

Psycho Cops: Trigger happy people waiting for you to give them a reason to put a cap in your a$$. Or they smack around waitresses and get caught on tape.

The DUI off duty killer cop doesn't count because technically he wasn't on duty. If you know of another type of cop, post it and a brief description.

To Really, I have a close friend who was involved in this incident, so I do know how old the man was. The man's age is irrelevant to the case, but my point is that the media often exaggerates things or often doesn't give us ALL of the facts about an incident that happened, especially when it comes to WHY police officers handled a given situation the way they did or what the perpetrator's actions were leading up to it. As I said before, I have several very close friends who are officers , and I know first-hand that this type of media distortion does happen (not in every case, but it does happen). We should consider that there are other important factors in these types of cases that the media doesn't know about or doesn't share with the public, and we shouldn't be unfairly judgemental (toward either side - the police or the perpetrator), especially when we don't know 100% of the facts.
I did not see or hear the media exaggerate or distort the reporting of the story. Show your proof.

Wow Franklin Park finally got some attention....

R.I.P to the driver. This is a horrible situtation for the drivers family and all the officers involved.

you siound like one of those people who watch too much tv and think everything is wonderful. Since I ws not there, obviously you were not there, we cannot second guess whatthe officers who were there did. ASk three different "witnesses to describe the same incident and you will get three different answers. That is why a outside agency conducts a investigation into this. But no matter how objective an ivestigation some people would rather beleive the worst no matter how heavy the truth hits them on the head.

You tell us that the media quite often distorts facts and go on to tell us that it was reported the man that was elderly. You report that he was 52 years old. Where do you get your facts?
The important part of the story is not how old he was but rather why was he shot.
I heard the news report on WGN 720 radio. Mayor Pedersen made a statement and then a statement was made by a person that witnessed the killing first hand.
You say that the police were trained and acted in self defense. Again where do you come up with those facts.
My Opinion is that the police were not coordinated in what should have been a simple apprehension of a DUI suspect.
Who was in charge at the scene? Or did the scene dissolve into a mob mentality?
Should have been;
A radio call comes to car FP46 from command center. "This is the Chief. Continue pursuit at normal traffic speed with lights on. Other communities are following also. When you get the suspect pulled down you will be in charge of the arrest and any coordination of other towns. Go to local frequency to communicate orders to other town. We'll be waiting your message of man in custody at headquarters, is that a 10-4?"
"Yes Ser, 10-4"
The officer now in command pulls down the car as other community police officers enter and block the suspects car from moving freely. The car is trapped and can not go anywhere.
The FP officer mikes the radio. phssss..."All officers on the scene will remain near their cars. Keep your weapons holstered. Only two officers that you see at the far end of the scene are ready with their weapons. Officer Mike from Stone and myself will approach the car along wih myself for the apprehension. Officer Mike will open the door and we will restrain the subject and extract him from the vehicle. If the door is locked Officer Mike will break out the window and open the door. Ok Officers we are ready to commence the operation." Phsssst.
Several minutes later command center in FP receives radio communications. "FP command center this is officer in charge at the scene. Suspect is in custody. We're coming home. Have Stone call for tow and clean up." Pshssssst.
The chief responds,"Very good, we'll be waiting for you."

the man put many innocent peoples lives in danger with his wreckless driving. on top of that he tried to run over our police officers. he was clearly a nutcase and he was killed in self-defense. i see nothing wrong with the officers actions. thank you officers for keeping the streets safe of these nutcases.

The mayor should stay off the radio and TV...
He could not talk and answer questions at the village meeting but as soon as a TV camera is in his face he can talk. What does he know about police work? We have 3 police chief's one of the should know how to talk.
The village is in trouble in many ways, no money is being sent over to the police department so they can go to schools and be keep up to date or go through training sessions. Yes, I do blame the chief Patti on this one, he should be demanding more for his department he has held the position for almost a year now and has not fought for equipment, schools, firearm training,or a contract, just him and his two little chief's doing what they are told to do and thinking only of themselves. This is why the village is falling apart wrong people in high positions, the mayor needs to look at who is best for the job not which friend he can fill with a job.

Another example of "trigger happy" cops. Just after the des plaines police shooting an 24year old, Franklin Park has to overreact. If you expect me to respect cops after this.... think again.

The real answer can most likely be fond in the radio recordings. What were the cops saying before and after the shooting. If someone has the balls file a request for a copy and post it. The word is the cop that got shot was shot while trying to pull the driver out of the car. Why else would his hand be shot as the mayor has said. The car was pinned and was not being used as a weapon as some suggest. Check the news video and see just how the car was pinned.

Doesn't say anywhere in the article that the cop had him by the arm, it says they surrounded the car and gave him verbal commands then he put it in gear, so since the temperature outside is what it is I would say the windows could have been up and a taser would have been useless. The cop could have been hit by a richocet, since we do not know for sure how he was hit yet its not fair to speculate.
