True most of the time, although I don't think one needs to pry this info out of your parents. My dad's military dog tags and my mom's blood donation card from Red Cross weren't exactly hidden in our house, and their blood types were on them, so I knew them from the time I was old enough to notice and register this info in the back of my mind.

It says that hazel eyes are a recessive trait when in fact hazel eyes are an expression of Bg (Brown/green) rather than a trait in and of itself. There's no actual gene for hazel eyes.

Also as far as phenotypes (what you look like) each trait almost always has multiple genes involved, not just one or two. So your genotype (your actual individual complement and configuration of genes) isn't necessarily going to be apparent by the way you look.

It's really convoluted (though simple at the same time...) which is why my eyes glaze over until we get around to looking at karotype. So there' that...
