Sorry SWF, Spanish Music may not be your cup of tea, but it was MOST certainly the right thing to do.

87.7 FM people. Tune your FM tuner all the way to the left as far as it will go, and enjoy the smooth jazz.

Or go to 90.9 for some real jazz.

I repeat, with this station, it makes 5 stations out of 53, or 1% of all stations in Chicago are Spanish. 99% are still English.
Considering that Chicago is roughly 18% Hispanic, id say the media and entertainment outlets for Hispanics is way under represented. Expect More Hispanic stations to come.
Did you fail math class? 5 out of 53 is more like 10%.

Also, the Irish make up a very large contingent of Chicago, going back many generations. How many Celtic music stations do you know of in Chicago? I thought so.

Actually, mister diaper fetish, I inferred nothing, I IMPLIED that Germans have been commies. Do you not know the difference between the words INFER and IMPLY? I don't care if some of your best friends are hispanic, the fact is you have a racist attitude and it is clear from your posts. So your grandfather came from Germany. Why don't you ASSIMILATE and spell your name like an American? If not, why don't you go back to Germany and goosestep like the pope did when he was a boy? And what does vivs mean? Is that some kind of German word? Learn ENGLISH!!!
Scheisskopf!
Yes, I do know the difference. Your statement was a direct comment at my heritage. You said quote "By the way, the English spelling is Carl, why do you spell your name like a German commie?" This infers nothing, but is a direct attack pon my heritage. I do not need to assimilate, as I am a legal citizen, speak the language and follow the laws. I have never asked a hispanic, muslim or any other ethnicity to assimilate by changing their name. This is the name my parents gave me, I am proud of it, and will not change it for any reason.
I do find it interesting that you continue to mask you insecurities with infantile insults, name calling and accusations. From a psychological point of view, this actually opens up many explanations of you and your personality.(Yes, I am a psychologist!)
Oh, and vivs, this is called a T*Y*P*O. Looked it up.

All of you who think this station is being targeted to the average illegal immigrant are dead wrong. It is being targeted to the Hispanic who speaks both English and Spanish. Educated Hispanics who are bilingual are one of the largest growing demographics in Chicago. I assure you this is a much larger audience than Chicagoans who care to listen to faux Jazz. I love these "When my grandparents came to this country EVERYTHING was in English." Bull crap. Neighborhoods had newspapers in their own languages, priests and Rabbis spoke in the neighborhood tongue and so forth. The Mexican/Hispanice immigrants are pretty much the same as other groups that have come to this country. And this includes the ignorance of the populace in regards to their arrival.
That's all fine and good Mr. Houston. However, if you lived in Chicago, you would know that there are at least 3 other Spanish FM music stations, but there is not one other smooth jazz station on the dial. You are also wrong about your assumption that WNUA listeners like "faux jazz." I know what traditional jazz is and it has its place. This is a different format that is popular music yet different and relaxing. It is gone from the dial in Chicago.

Agreed!
I too enjoyed listening to WNUA over the years and will greatly miss their sound! I'll now be looking for a replacement spot for it on my car & home stereo pre-tuned dial. While I'm at it, I'll also be deleting ALL of the Clear Channel stations I still tune into as well!!
I wish the right-wing management & owners at CCC a slow & painful decent into unprofitability and even future bankruptcy!
I agree....I hope that when Clear Channel execs wake up, they realize they have put a nail into their own coffins and I hope is sooner than later.

I respect the Spanish community, but they don't support nor listen to diverse music like Black or White Americans and for Clear Channel to pull the plug on WNUA, it's another very sad day in Chicago. This is America not Mexico or Puerto Rico and it's apparent that all major corporations are trying to appeal to this Hispanic community to capitalize on revenue, but when that fails Clear Channel, don't expect for Black or White America to support your company again.

You're a psychologist??? ROFL!!! Do your patients know you have a diaper fetish??? What, no neurotics, bipolars or mother-obsessed whining CEOs need help this afternoon? I doubt you're a psychologist. You're more the archetype of the mom's-basement-dwelling-thinly -veiled-racist-loser. Jung wrote several volumes about it. I'm more into Maslow and Rogers myself.

OMFG I cannot believe you are comparing the format flip of a radio station to the Bush administration invading Iraq!!! Nobody is going to DIE because WNUA flipped. For God's sake, change your dial to 87.7 FM and you will hear Dave Koz on the "smooth ride home" right now!!! I cannot believe how melodramatic you are being over a station changing format. Honey, you desperately need to GET A LIFE!!! I could give a rat's arse that WNUA changed format. I don't hate Mexicans, and I love REAL jazz. Even if it WAS my favorite station, I still would not compare Clear Channel's decision with lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction or Weapons of Mass Distraction. Honestly, you need to GET OVER YOURSELF!! It's just a radio station!
...and OMG! I don't believe someone in this economy would not compare that 'doing nothing' to this 'doing nothing'.

If you LET Corporate America get away with treating the public like crap about public opinion, what will you do when they tell you you are required to pay them to breathe the air you breathe?

KKSF earlier this week, now WNUA? Unbelievable. WNUA was THE pioneer for this format. Many thanks to former employees who knew what the NAC sound was all about. Back in the heyday of NAC, WNUA was without peers. For those now former WNUA listeners who are looking for an alternative and that classic NAC sound, I welcome you to check out my Internet stream at wavjazz.net . I am completely not-for-profit, and run the thing from my home computer purely as a hobby, 24/7.

Peace,

Kimbley, take a chill pill. I see the lack of smooth jazz is already stressing you out. Flip your radio to 87.7, take a deep breath, listen to Dave Koz and relax. It will be okay. Nobody will die from WNUA going from Kenny G to Shakira. Children will not be orphaned, nobody will be waterboarded or denied sleep. No Korans will be defiled. Billions of dollars will not be spent on an unjustifiable war. I can see it's all about you. Get over yourself. Turn your radio dial. Everything will be okay.

That's some free cognitive therapy for you. Perhaps KKKarl knows what that means. Somehow, I doubt it. Ich glaube, dass Karl kein Psychologe ist.

Que Second language broadcasting draws crummy to mini ratings especially when the market is split by another minority language broadcaster. In the Toronto market (the metro market is about the same size as Chicago's there are two commercial Second language --in this case French - stations . One is surviving the other has a good core audience but only because they adopeted a multi cultural format years ago with 18 or 20 languages spoken on the air in a day. The government run Radio Canada (french CBC ) draws an audience that college stations sometimes beat .The large brains that did this in your town may be positioning themselves in the market for five years from now but the market they're PROJECTING doesn't materialize if the economy continues its current trends. The hoard of listeners the stats weenies say are out there might not turn up

I was a very loyal listener to WNUA from the very beginning. I moved from Chicago five years ago to the empty radio wastland of Raleigh, NC. I was so happy to continue with WNUA over the internet.

The online smooth jazz stream mentioned is the same stream from heartland music that can be picked up from WMAG in High Point, NC. I do not want click on that 95.5 webaddress again.

GOSH...That one little man could offend so many people at the same time is awesome.

Boy you're good.

My fellow Chicagoans - write and email your public representatives about the way Clear Channel has been offending the public.

Smooth Jazz Loyal Listeners deserve representation to.

And he's right - Try WLFM 87.7
It isn't a internet streaming station, but we might be able to nurse it into something better.

I am very sadden and upset on the change. Sad - because there is no other station like it in the Chicagoland area...this was my favorite station, anytime of the day. Upset- today I counted 6 FM Spanish stations...why another one?!
Please bring back WNUA!!!

What am I supposed to do with my clock radio dial? I am a huge rock fan, but don't want to listen to it first thing in the morning, and my Spanish isn't good enough to translate with a foggy head, even if I did want to listen to "hot" music at that hour, which I don't. WNUA provided an intelligent, civilized, non-jarring way to wake up in the morning, and I am really going to miss it.
I am sooo with you on that one. WNUA was the only station that I could set my clock radio to that wouldn't jar me out of bed to start my day with a headache. I loved Ramsey's show and I looked forward to Christmas eve when NUA played some of the best smooth jazz holiday music I ever heard. I have nothing against Spanish radio stations but I think it's a cop out to abandon a good and rare thing such as NUA to add just another Spanish station to chase the latest demographic.
How sad!
