He should get jail time. I live in a building that was tagged last year and we had to replace $9,000 in windows because the tagger used acid based paint.

I hope the justice system shows no mercy.

His view is different than that of the typical midwestern yokel living in Chicago, so he must he must be a crazy, shiftless "hippie." Nice generalization to explain away the fact that your white bread, vanilla and uncultured way of thinking doesn't apply to everyone.

yeah i hope this schmuck gets what's coming for him...but let me just say that when a neighborhood gets "vandalized" by gentrification, police brutality, higher taxes, higher property values that middle/lower class people can't afford, etc, no one complains. i guess what this message board reveals to me is that our naive citizens can complain about idiot individual vandals, who definitely deserve to face the long arm of the law, but somehow can't muster the confidence to fight against institutional dysfunctionalism. you are all cowards, just like this vandal.
you loser...who doesn't complain about taxes!!

I live in Bartlett, IL and I WISH we had some graffiti? Sheesh, well good graffiti anyways, not that stupid gang stuff. It's good to see Chicago's finest out there chasing REAL criminals. Y'all are ignorant as all hell...

Criminals run free like wild animals...particularly on the south side...with gunned hands flailing about shooting each other and innocent vicims, but a kid getting crazy with spray paint gets jailed and held in lieu of a ginormous $200,000 bail.

Only in Chicago.

I'm not condoning destruction of property, but you can see how things are priortized around here. And my common posting closer...

I hate you, Daley!

Amen!!! Cop, can you get the city to do that? If you're caught tagging, then the city gets to spray paint YOU.

These stencil "taggers" are mimicking Banksy in London. It is a respected artform in other parts of the world. Typical Chicago tunnel vision....Such a "world class" city.
LOL @ mimicking Banksy. Come on, at least Banksy is creative. Also - what works in other parts of the world must work here?? I find it hard to belive other "world class" cities are perfectly fine with graffiti

A felony for some paint? Glad to see the justice system has its priorities straight. Now a 19-year-old kid (yes, kid) won't be able to land a job because he got caught tagging. Whatever happened to just making kids clean this crap up after themselves when they get caught? Our court system really has worse crimes to worry about. What's next? Felony charges for skateboard damage to federal property? Ooooh!

WhiteBabies obviously has never left the state, but considers himself an expert on "world class cities". Sydney is a "world class" city and is covered with tasteless terrible graffiti and it looks atrocious. A donation wall done by a talented artist is art. Valdalization is not art. Get some taste you crybaby. No city is proud of graffiti. I think any tagger that is caught should have to inhale an entire can of spray paint. The crippling effect of the propellant and volatile chemicals that cut the paint would do wonders to their brain and nervous system and pretty soon we wouldn't have any taggers and the world would be a better place. The best part is they're mostly 14 year old pseudo-gangstas with enough money to get to the suburbs, buy paint, take it to chicago, take it to neighborhoods that they don't live in, and ruin peoples homes, businesses, and property. Some swift, iron fisted justice would set those jerks straight right away. A police batton to the jaw is a lot more effective than protracted court proceedings and jail time. It's also much easier on the tax payer.

Also, why is spray paint even produced? It is staggeringly bad for your health and airbrushing works much better without the propellants. The world woudl be a better place for an innumerable number of reasons if there was no more spray paint. Learn how to use a brush and an airbrush.
