Is it normal to take communion and kneel at Catholic weddings and funerals?
If the wedding is a full mass, yes. Not all are. Funerals are full masses, so yes.

Weird. I know this was not just one church doing it -- the change in the text made national news coverage. At least a couple of years ago.

Sad news Kuippo: They no longer say that in Catholic church services.
Granted I don't go to church much, but I was just at a catholic wedding with a full mass, and they said it just like every other service I've ever been to.

L1: when you Rvers figure out how to drive more then 30mph on a two lane highway, or you pull over to let the 500 cars behind you pass, I'll stop passing you when i have a dime size space to do it.

Strange, because it was pretty recent (last month or two).

LW3: I'm not Catholic either, but if you want to fit in better during the services, learn how to cross yourself and respond "and also with you" when the priest says "peace be with you." You're welcome.
It's "The Lord be with you."
"And also with you."

Even better in Latin - it's "Dominus vobiscum" and the response is (let's see if I can get this past the censor-bot), "Etcum spiritu tuo," which means "and with your spirit."

Because it's pronounced like "Spiri-2-2-0," generations of us pre-Vatican II children grew up thinking it was God's phone number!

And yeah, non-Catholics should NOT receive the Eucharist!

At least not in a Catholic church that doesn't practice open Communion.

It was an absolute adventure. But 7 days across the Atlantic was just too much ocean. I would love to go to Barcelona and Paris again. Trains are incredible all across Europe.

The updated text has been in place for almost a year and a half (since Nov 2011).

http://hotword.dictionary.com/catholic/

"And also with you" was changed to "And with your spirit". The Apostles Creed has been slightly modified (wtf does "consubstanial" mean?). There are several other changes to the text of the mass, though not to the ritual.

Our church still has printed sheets with the new text so that people can follow along. Churches that didn't bother to do that or people who don't feel like reading still use the old language.
