People really don't understand! when you have grown your hair for so long and then waltz into the salon with your nerve up to have it cut off, you will never know that feeling unless you have experienced it.. I remember when I said to cut it I was thinking I would be fine. After they cut the pony tail they handed it to me and my eyes begin to fill with tears.. for years I had had long hair and now I was holding it. The only thing I can remember is that the way I got through it was knowing it was going to some one who had none. This is the most sicking story I have read. I will never donate my hair again!
I agree with you about the emotion involved with cutting your hair. When I donated mine I made my appointment several days in advance so I could have some time to think about my decision! I'm glad I did donate my hair though. Even if it was sold, as someone else mentioned on the Locks of Love website the hair that is sold is to offset the other costs they incur, I guess it's going to something more useful than the garbage can.

This past summer my daughter and 2 of her friends all donated. My daughter sent in 12 inches of untreated, healthy hair. The other 2 friend sent 6 and 8 inches. They all three got their postcards thanking them for their donations. The way I look at it is, we can all find negetive in anything we do. But we should just hope that when doing something for a good cause that we should now Locks of Love will do all they can to save any hair sent in.We just have to follow the rules and have the faith that your donation will be used. These three little girls are growing again to send next summer and there is no way I will advise them against doing it because of this article.

A friend of mine had a child with cancer who had lost all of her hair to her chemotherapy. They contacted Locks of Love to see about getting a wig. Locks of Love REFUSED to even sell my friend a wig for her little girl.

They may do good work for children with alopecia (a non life threatening condition that causes people to lose their hair), but they prey on the good will of people misled into thinking they will help kids with cancer.
Wigs for Kids is a good honest organization, as is Pantene's Beautiful Lengths.

Not happy with your quote. Go back to your writing elsewhere!

A charity that isn't totally legit? I am SO appalled. I imagine they barely can stay in business at this rate. It is so heart wrenching to know that so many people may have labored so hard and dealt with so many life changing trials to grow their hair that long.

In loving memory of a friend, it can be helpful to release a braid or ponytail.
