The way this reporter tells it, you'd think there were only two parties. In fact, the Green Party will also begin petitioning tomorrow as well. They have seven candidates for statewide office. I'll wager a guess that he didn't bother to check who they were. When a reporter can't get basic facts right, it kind of undermines his credibility.

Whatever you folks do, please do not mess with the "A" Team in Illinois!

The State runs like clockwork, Illinois government is ethical.

The taxes are low- why the sales tax is practically zero in Cook County, isn't it?

Property taxes are so small you don't even notice them.

And the Illinois unemployment rate, well.. let's ignore that one right now.

The Chicago parking meters work great and are practically free.

The Olympics won't cost a penny.

The kids' Brightstart program maybe was invested in subprime but that does teach them valuable life lessions!

Blago is clean as can be and approaching the end of his second term.

Your taxes are way too low, they need to be increased by at least 50%, minimum.

When things are working great, you do not mess with success.

So please reelect DALEY, STROGER, QUINN, ALEXI, SPEAKER MADIGAN and the rest of the Democrat legislature. Cook County is the best run county of all, please keep the Democratic Machine in charge. They're doing a heck'uva job!

Meet the new candidates, same as the old candidates - lying, self-serving, egotistical layabouts. Alexi, learn your current job before trying to move up the ladder. If any of these people had any self-worth, they would know that it's not a plus to be a candidate in the state of Illinois.
You will all be tarred with the same brush as the current bunch of yahoos.
Is your dignity worth it?

No known politicians should be allowed to run for office in Illinois.
In fact, scrap 'elections' in this state entirely.
Instead, let's have a lottery for all public office{s}[exectuive, legislative, boards, commissions, etc].
Anyone here legally, a citizen {born here - or naturalized}, neither they nor any of their household being the recipient{s} of any entitlement programs - whatsoever, without a criminal record, age 25 or older, registered to vote, being employed, having filed their tax returns inclusive to date, being current on all of their taxes, being a property owner and paying real-estate taxes on their property{s}, could be eligible for the 'lottery.'
Compensation for all positions would be cut in half from their current levels - with no benefits: medical insurance, pension, etc, and they would be allowed to keep their current jobs and/or their businesses interests [conflicts of interest arising would preclude them from voting on any given bill or measure]. Legislative sessions would be cut by 2/3rds.
It's LONG past time that we return 'government'{well, what passes for same in the dire state of Illinois} to non-'professional' citizens and to reduce both the costs and amount of time such is in session. Less government in Illinois can ONLY be better government; and those who 'run' government should be upstanding members of the community{s}- not scoundrels, skallywags and/or plunderers.
Naturally, anyone selected by the lottery could choose not to serve and - should they serve, they would not be allowed to fill any discretionary position with any family members, nor anyone with a criminal record.
If we want good government in Illinois we have to return it to the citizens/taxpayers, preclude patronage and establish expedited and draconian penalties for abuses of office!
Those who either don't contribute to society {e.g. entitlement recipients living off of the largess of others} and criminals shouldn't be allowed either to vote and/or to serve in ANY government position.
Let's get rid of the Daley's, Madigan's, Cullerton's, O'Conner's, Jones', Gutierez's, Quinn's, Jackson's, Rush's, Burris', Stroger's, Lipinski's, etc, etc - in a CLEAN SWEEP!
Return Illinois' government to 'We The People...'

Instead of holding primaries or elections in Illinois we should have open hunting season days on politicians.
Let's put a bounty on dez bums' heads and clean up Dodge {aka: Illinois}.
I'll gladly bring my own ammunition and pay for the priviledge of a hunting permit.
Egads these politicians in Illinois aren't even fit for land-fill or dog-food. They're simply too... rancid; they pollute everything they get near.
'Illinois politician'- presumed guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.

You all complain about the Republicans and Democrats who control every aspect of our political system, but experience has shown that this grousing rarely leads to action. You may not like the current leaders, but are you really supporting candidates who are more focused on individual liberties, putting the government back on the job of improving our communities and not improving corporate profits? Time to get off your butts, people. This reporter didn't even mention anything about independents, Greens or Libertarians...time to fight back
