I think that we would be better served by passing on Peavey. He makes an awful lot of money for a pitcher who is likely to spend a significant amount of time on the DL over the length of his contract (e.g. Rich Harden). Let's spend the money on a lefty lead-off hitter (e.g. Brian Roberts) instead. we didn't lose the NLDS because of our pitching.

..and one more thing...the organization has to summon the balls to move Soriano down in the lineup. HE IS NOT A LEADOFF HITTER, no matter how much he wants to be one.

Peavy has been near the top of the NL ERA leaders for most of his career. True, he did spend some time on the DL last season, but I wouldn't put him in the Harden/Sheets/Prior category just yet. And I think pitching did have something to do with the sweep. Dempster's 7 walks and grand slam didn't help. And I don't remember Harden being lights out in Game 3 either. Any way you can improve the club, I say you have to go for it. However, if you don't get Peavy, then I think you dangle the same players in front of Baltimore and see if they reconsider moving Roberts. Should be fun to watch what happens starting tomorrow...
Yeah lets get another Ace

So, Paul whats what?
Is Peavy talk for real? After reading all the articles, blogs, and listening to the radio shows you'd have to believe that a deal is 90% done. From this article it seams that's the deal is going to Atlanta and I get the impression that Lou would be more comforatble with his staff as it now exists, that of course taking for granted Hendry re-signs Dempster. The boys better get on the same page or they'll risk losing them both!

forget peavy ... sign both dempster and wood, and go after brian roberts and adam dunn. both would be great in wrigley field.
move soriano down in the line-up and make roberts the leadoff man. those 2 pick-up would make a world of difference, and we have plenty of prospects to send to baltimore.

The most scary post Halloween thought to me, is the idea of an outfield comprised of Soriano and Dunn on the corners. You'd need to have two Cf'ers to cover up for that comedy of errore, yes pun intended.

Since Lou Piniella is happy with Soriano in the lead off spot, let's all stop wishing for a change here. Let's hope for a power hitting left handed batter to play right field. I have the solution, Josh Hamilton. Let's make a trade with the Rangers to acquire him. If you look at his 2008 stats, he mirrors Aramis Ramirez. He is inexpensive and he isn't a free agent until 2012. The Rangers need pitching and he seem to have a surplus. I propose Marshall and Ceda, even up for Hamilton. It's worth a phone call.
