THey also said that 2 minutes is the maximum time for idling, and that's only in extreme temps (like 10 degrees and colder).
However: Don't say anything. Nothing good will come of it, and more importantly, get off your high horse. Unless you do absolutely everything green and earth-friendly, you have ZERO room to chastize your neighbor.
"If you feel your health is at risk from your neighbor’s vehicle exhaust, you have a right to ask her not to idle her van near your house." Stupid, Amy. C'mon, that's stupid even for YOU.
L2: "I saw one of their text messages and it was like reading a chapter of “Fifty Shades of Grey.”" Y ou mean their texts are poorly written and their sex lives have a lack of imagination?
1- Some places have laws regarding cars left idling to warm up, especially if there is no driver in the car. Crabby neighbour should check to see if she can call the cops on the minivan. Then they can expect that people will stand by idle should their house catch on fire or if they fall and can't get up. They'll hear your screams, but they'll figure the grouch is just yelling for the pleasure of it.
2- Friend of a friend asked me to read it and give them feedback. Couldn't make it through the first chapter. I'd rather read 6th graders' stories.(not stuff written for them, but the things they write for school.

Birth Control has not been "illegal" since Griswold v Connecticut which was a 1960's Supreme Court case.
Thus sayeth a former ERA campaigner.

So are you saying they aren't "trying to make birth control illegal. Trying to put even more restrictions on legal, safe abortion"? The quote is from Redhead.

I'm thinking, personally, more in terms of limits on birth control and trying to make abortions illegal -- but it's the same gist.

LW1: My neighbors has two large, noisy trucks and sometimes warms one up for a bit. It is mildly annoying and unnecessary because we live in an area with a mild climate.(We have maybe a handful of nights that dip below freezing temp in the winter.) However, it's his gas to waste and I would never have a conversation with him about this. When you live in a neighborhood, you expect to hear noises - cars going by, children playing, etc. I suggest that LW get some headphones and play some music when the neighbor is warming up the car.

LW2: I know this must be disappointing for you but there is only so much that you can do. Her behavior is a symptom of her illness. Limit your involvement to encouraging her to take her medication and see her doctor and/or therapist. Do NOT talk to the boyfriend, the married teacher-lover, or the school.

There are attempts being made all over the US to either restrict it, or make it more difficult to obtain, though. There are those who would like to see it become illegal again, just as they'd like to see abortion completely criminalized once more. Many of them would not even allow exception for rape, or the female's life.(I won't say woman, because far too many children are having babies)

What? YOu mean I need to source something that has been all over the news for the last few years?

No. Watch the news and pick up a newspaper. The wingnuts of the GOP absolutely want to interfere with a woman's reproduction.

In the last presidential election all of the major Republican candidates -- Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Rick Perry -- supported stripping Planned Parenthood of the federal funding it uses, in part, to provide contraceptives to women. And all of the leading Republican candidates except Jon Huntsman supported a Mississippi ballot initiative that would have outlawed forms of birth control like the pill and IUDs.

Also, why provide him with sources? He'll just say how they're all a part of the liberal media and that they're biased and lying.

My neighbors do this too. Their teenaged son turns on his car with a bad muffler at 5:45am and lets it warm up until 6:30am.

His mother has also ranted at me about how "long" it takes to warm up cars around here (Chicago) because you "have" to or you're going to ruin the engine by driving it cold. Unfortunately, she is not the type of person who you want to try to provide correct information to.

So, when his car roars to life at 5:45am, I stick my head under my pillow.

I'd be way ticked about the muffler thing and why isn't 10 minutes enough to warm it up?

Because it's a newer car (despite the muffler) and most newer cars are efficient enough that they don't actually warm up at all while idling. On a few of the extremely bitter days I've driven the kid down to the bus stop and let him sit in the car until the bus comes, and that engine temperature needle does not MOVE off the cold line until I'm actually driving at speed.

All I can figure is that he's actually waiting for the engine temperature needle to come up to the middle. They're not waiting for the inside of the passenger cabin to warm up, they are waiting for the engine to warm up.

How would he be able to blame the liberal media if he went to the Republican's Party's website and saw that restricting abortion rights has been one of the planks in their platform for the last several presidential elections? Would this mean the Republican party is part of the liberal media?
