LW2: Lamy's response: "You should express your point of view by saying, "I know this is kind of your thing, but I really don't feel comfortable talking about the cost of everything. Speculating about the cost of a couch is one thing, but please don't tell me about the Robinsons' income. I seriously don't want to know. It's just too personal."

Yeah, right, Lamy. The LW, who obviously has the spine of a bunnyrabbit, is going to be able to say this. As usual, your "advice" <roflmao> Totally Blows.

Our dyson vacuum went out and bambi got one that had never been used from teh thrift shop. It must have been a floor model.
It was the same model as our old one, but it was a newer addition and had some differences. It was missing one part. Turns out we had the same part on our old one and just took it out and put it in the new one.
$5 for a dyson.
Your Dyson went out? I'd be rather surprised. How long do those usually last? Great deal but geez! Those are not cheap.

Okay -- I just googled "How long do Dyson's last" and the answers I saw varied from 6-7 years.

I think I'll stick with getting a new cheaper vacuum every three years. Still comes out cheaper.(I'm a cheapskate.)

I've been so tempted to get the Dyson, though, so I understand buying it. If I had any kids with issues (as Sub does) I would get it. I do buy ones with the hepa filter and also keep 2 filters on hand and switch them out.

We got a Dyson. I honestly don't feel like it did any better of a job than the Hoover we bought next for like a 3rd of the cost of the Dyson.

That's what I've heard. And my dad refurbished a used/broken Hoover Wind Tunnel for me about 8 years ago and it still works great (except I ran over the hose so it doesn't work as well).

In fact, I have 3 vacs right now, 2 of which he refurbished for me. With that, plus my carpet shampooer, I feel like I am in a vacuum store!

Dickie's studio bought a dyson and the POS cr*pped out after about a year. They then got a cheapo hoover from Target and insist it works way better than the dyson ever did.

I think it's the cool design that fools us into thinking it is a superior vacuum.

I refuse to spend that kind of money to vacuum my floors. I wish I could find a cheap canister vacuum. I dont have rugs, so I dont need something with a power head on it.

I have mostly hardwood floors. I rely on Consumer Reports for this sort of stuff. Got one at Target a couple years ago for around $70 that was recommedned and works really well on animal hair and dust. It is a bagless canister. Its red ;I can't remeber the brand but it works just fine.

All hardwood floors here, and I also rely on Consumer Rports.$70 is $70!

someone who invited us to their weddign had like 3 dysons and a bissel on thier registry.. never figured out why, but the best i came up wiht is throw it out there and see what someone goes for...?

i too have all hardwoods, but no "regular" vaccum. i have a rechargable floor sweeper, like a swiffer duster but more powerful (but no swiffer either), regular swiffer adn a shop vac to drag out when tegh couches need cleanign. Thinking we should get anotehr regular one again. ours died somewhere along the line.

I missed this.

I think it lasted about probably about 7 years.

No, they aren't not cheap. I think they are 400 or 500 bucks.

We vacuumed with our old one once ... then immediately vacuumed with the Dyson and it got so much more shyte out the carpet that the old one was not picking up. That's the only way you will know. You have to do something like that. I don't think you can tell just by looking at your carpet.

2 Bissels...I don't know the models but one's an upgrade from the previous model. More bells and whistles, different color. Swiffer wet-jet (the squirty one) and a couple of regular brooms (one inside, one outside). Bissel carpet shampooer. <shrug>

The x had a rainbow, that used water as the filter. worked great, but a lot of work. It also doubles as an air cleaner. we just took off the hose and let it run. You could see the dirty water from the crap it pulled out of the air.

My dad had one of those. We hated using it but it did a great job.

We named it R2D2.

I had one of those years and years ago. Loved it, but yeah, way way way too much work.
