Has anyone else ever gone exploring on that hill and seen the remains of the slides?

The whole stretch of Rt 83 back in the day was great!! Dispenza's Castle of Toys, Kiddie Kingdom, Ebeneezer's...the go-carts! Wow. Those were great times.
The water slides were concrete and you could go down on big foam mats. In groups if you like, a whole bunch of your friends in a big mass! Ahhh..
It's always fun intil the lawyers get involved , then the fun is spoiled.
Great memories for sure. Too bad things change....

Oh yes that's right, there was also the Elm Roller rink which stood on the patch of grass just east of a large nursing home.

went tnhere in the 80s as well u would get a wrist band and the guy at the top would punch a hole in it every time u went down. saw a lot of girls bikins fall off at the bottom in the pool lol. every year they would paint the big slide a diffrent color. one year it was rainbowed color. kiddie kingdom was the best i remember the haunted house like yesterday the cart u rode on would kick the door open and that was scary enough for me lol. those days are all but a memory. times have changed people have changed. its not gone unless u forget it. so keep it in your hearts and at night when u dream u can find yourself standing on top of the hill in front of the flames sighn with a peanutbutter bopper in your hand with lisa lisa playing in the background. and dont forget the giant toy store at kiddie kingdom built like a castle those were the days!!!!!!!!!!

My first job was at that water slide park in 1989 but it was revamped and changed the name to the new roaring rapids. It sure did not last long! I think it was like everyone else said peeps kept getting hurt and they got their ass sued one to many times!! I remember working the concessions or front gate because I earned $1.00 more than out in the pool or pushing people down the slide "life guarding" it was open until 11:00 and big groups of people would walk in at 10:00 and give me $20 to let all if them in which I did, ha! What a joke! It's too bad it was never revamped to a safer water park...also I remember there being a flasher that would show his junk on the top of the hill back by the trees. Weirdo!! I wish I had pictures of the place but I do not :(

Yes. It was at the corner of Roosevelt Road (Route 38, 12th Street) and Villa Avenue. My Grandparents have lived down the street since the early 50's so we went past the "ruins" all the time. There is a Chevrolet dealer there now.
The Flame in OakBrook was on Roosevelt Rd and burnt down in June of 1979 on a Sunday during a shower catering event...ashtray dumped in linens and put in the dirty linen bag. It was rebuilt on Summit Rd near Roosevelt (Rt.38) a few years later and run by the same owner George Makris.(deceased) His Brother Peter owned the Flame countryside and ran it separately. The Billboard on 83 and Roosevelt was on top of the hill and had nothing to do with the Water Slide Park...and you are all right law suits get all the fun things taken out!

Wasn't there a couple more slides than just the two? I have vague memories of going to a water park in the mid 80's and there being a couple of slides on a hill. I had completely forgotten the place until I went to Elmhurst College and while driving down Route 83 I saw the remnants of the slides among the tres and thinking "I've been there, I think." Now I'm going to have to ask my parents since I remember there being more than just two slides.
There are actually a total of 7 water slides, and a wading pool. All of which have been neglected and have fallen into complete disrepair! In addition to the 2 main concrete slides, there are also 2 racer speed slides, 2 tube slides that looped underground, and a smaller inner tube slide for kids. In fact, here is part of a 4-part video I took of the slides in July 2009.

As of this summer, despite 4 years of my video of it's ruins being live on the Internet, there are still no construction crews spotted on that hill. In fact, the only activities that appears to occur is with the billboard on the hill and possibly occasional urban explorers (as if they could possibly even afford the equipment to rebuild/restore that place!).

So many fun places closing down and facing either demolition and conversion to commercial/business property or being left to fall into ruin. Apparently, as it appears, Chicagoland, as well as all of Northern Illinois, is quickly on it's way to becoming a restricted all-work-no-play zone. Soon, the only fun place left in Northern Illinois will be Six Flags Great America.

Oakbrook Terrace. From a great fun place/place to play and have fun straight to a restricted all-work-no-play zone.

In addition to Ebenezer Floppen Slopper's Wonderful Water slides/Doc River's Roaring Rapids water park, where the Oakbrook Terrace Tower currently stands, there used to be a carnival park called Kiddie Kingdom. Kiddie Kingdom had a Rock-o-Plane, a Scrambler, a Tilt-A-Whirl, a Spider, and quite a few other rides. Also, it even appears that the current mayor of Oakbrook Terrace wants to turn Ebenezer Floppen Slopper's Wonderful Water slides/Doc River's Roaring Rapids water park into a retail area!

Looks like anyone who wants to have fun will seriously need to stay away from Oakbrook Terrace, as it has nothing fun anymore, and is determined to be a village of only workaholics.
