So was $8.00 for the guy who vacuumed out my car (just normal vacuuming, not excessive or anything) too much/little? FWIW the whole service (car wash, vacuuming, windows, etc...was like $40.00

The guy at Red Robin got $15.00 on a $45.00 tab, but his name was Christopher...so, yeah I know that was over tipping. <shrug>

I am a generous tipper. But I disagree on tipping for tattoos and such. This is a one time "art" work. They charge a lot and it is not an ongoing maintenance thing like getting your hair done or food service.
Good point.

<quoted text>Actually, I have not gotten delivery in years. I'd rather go pick it up myself and keep my money. It was one thing when you were just expected to tip the driver, but then they started this nonsense where you have to pay a delivery fee that does not go to the driver and tip on top of that. F that. the tip IS the delivery fee. I'm not paying double to get it delivered.
<quoted text>
So you tip more for the large Supreme with mega toppings that costs $20 than you do for the 2 large cheese pizza's for $12?
And just curious, is this extra generosity just for pizza delivery guys? What about the Best Buy delivery people who bring your tv/washer/dryer/fridge? Do they get a little something extra too? Do you tip more for a $1000 fridge than you do for a $500 dryer?
I don't do a % for something like an appliance or moving (which isn't a frequent thing in my life), but I just figure a reasonable amount based on service.

If, for food, there is a delivery fee, I DO factor that in as part of what I am going to tip. For $20 pizza versus 2 for 12, I'd probably tip about $3 either way just because it seems lame to throw someone $1.50 for a tip. I rarely order food at home because, like you, I'd rather just rat there or pick it up. But I don't have the luxury of a lunch break at work so we order a lot from here. A lot of the times we have quite a few people ordering with special requests, etc. Plus, we order the same places often and I don't want my service to be bad because I want to save a buck or 2.

I probably would have done 5 or 6 for the car.

1. Your issue with her is that she has big boobies? You've said nothign for 5 years, you are stuck, there is nothing you can say now that is not going to hurt her. At some point, something will come up about nursing or some kind of upkeep, and then you can tell her she doesn't need to keep them big for you, but until then be thankful that's your big complaint.

2. So Abby doesn't know your family or your partner and you write to her to ask he to choose?

3. No, no tips for tats.

Where I go, they have guys at one end vacuuming and the detailers at the other, but only 1 tip jar (at the detailing end). I just had my truck cleaned (was like $30 for the super package). I felt bad for the vacuum dudes cause that was the dirtiest part of my truck. I had all kinds of crap in there, and the back seats were covered in dog fur. I was impressed, they moved everything around and vacuumed the entire truck. I wanted to tip them special, but wound up just putting $8 in the tip jar.

I just hand them money. I don't even know if they have a tip jar. There was only one guy doing it this time (there's usually 2 or 3) and he took a lot of time but not because he was slow, because he was thorough.

Of course the VERY NEXT DAY when I came out of Walmart (figures) there was birdshit all down my back window and big gobs on the trunk. <sigh> I just went down the road to a drive-thru one and got the cheapie $8.00 wash. So yeah it ended up costing me like $56.00 for the car this weekend.

I don't do the "Platinum" wash but a couple times per year. In between I do the $5.00 drive-thru (wasn't worth the gas to drive there Sunday hence the $8.00 one) every couple weeks, vacuum as needed at the machine, and then do the "Beary Best" (Brown Bear Car Wash..."Beary Best"...get it?) for like $15.00 every month or so just to get the underside and stuff. Especially in the winter.

I've got 1 tattoo. Friend who already had a few went with me. After I paid, he asked if I tipped the guy. No. Didn't know I was supposed to. According to him, its customary, so I gave the guy some more.

L1: What Abby said with a side of Tonka.

L2: Again, what Abby said. Also, why not have him get a visitor's Visa to get into the country and see if either of you really rather be in the US or Australia. The grass is always greener on the other side.

L3: I'd tip based on a percentage and how happy you are with work.

L3. A body piercing is not art. Far from it.
And neither is a cheesy tattoo. It is in fact a desecration.

LW1: Take your pick between Red and squishymama.

LW2: One of the partners of a gay couple that I know travels fairly regularly and the other partner keeps the home fires burning. If they can work it out, you can work it out, too. I realize that airfare is pricey, but this is important to you. Take a month off and visit your folks. I'll bet that by the end of the month, you'll be longing to go back to Australia.

How many people can just take a month off? It wasn't until my 10th year with my current company that I got to 4 weeks of vacation annually.

When I was in high school, I had a friend who was a very talented artist. He designed the cover of our yearbook among other things and went into the graphic design field. One day, I gave him an idea that I had for a tattoo. He then drew several pages of examples of his interpretation. One of them was perfect. better than I had imagined it in my head. Took that to the tattoo ARTIST and had that put on my body. Guess its not art if the canvas is flesh.

To clarify, are just cheesy tattoos desecration, or are ALL tattoos cheesy and therefor desecration?

not all tatoos are cheesy... some are very touching. yes, there are some that are indeed cheesy, some that are poorly executed, but there are soem that are well done. i know someone who is workign on a sleeve based on some animated characters. they are very recognizable, which takes talent. i sure as sh!t cant even trace things and have the tracing look right!

but as far as tipping, ask teh shop, ro call other shops nearby to see what's the custom. it may depend on the artist as well. the artist working on the sleeve mentioned above is a friend of this person, so tipping may be a dinner out or a bottle of booze for another evening (when he's not working).
